Touching someone in a wrong way or working with a client with certain techniques the hypnotist isn't trained in. For instance, not knowing how to handle a abreaction or understanding proper suggestion formation. So it's really the same as any other profession. She's not a trained hypnotist. She's a trained teacher. As far as hypnosis goes, you could say she's a quack. The aim of the story is to put the reader in a moral dilemma: the teacher/hypnotist's ideas are good, but her means are dodgy. Will the reader condemn the teacher or side with her?
