Hey Everyone,

I was up late last night and ran across an interesting show on TLC. A very well known hypnotist by the name of Paul Mckenna has a show called I Can Make You Thin, which is a show where he teaches people how to lose weight without using diets. His show seems to revolve around different techniques for learning to control what you eat and how you eat. The truth is that many of the techniques he uses are hypnosis techniques or at least techniques that some hypnotists use within their practices.

I notice that when his show comes on they never mention his background as a hypnotist. They refer to him as some type of self-improvement guru in Britain. Paul made a name for himself as a stage hypnotist many years ago and then went on to write a number successful books and self improvement products. I understand why they don’t mention his hypnosis background as I’m sure the show wants to appeal to the widest audience they can. I have a feeling some people may object to the use of hypnosis for whatever reason. It amazes me though because hypnosis is all around us. Everyone uses it at one point in time, but they just never realize they are using hypnosis. I find this to be quite funny sometimes.

Let me get back to the show before I get off track here. The show isn’t that bad overall but it can come off as one of those late night sell you something type of commericals in a way. Even so, some of the claims of weight loss are pretty amazing. I saw one lady go from being at least 300 pounds to 150 pounds within a decent amount of time. The lady looked great and her confidence was off the wall. Another guy lose a ton of weight just from changing his eating habits. The people on the show thought some of these stories we’re amazing and while it’s always great to see people taking control of their lives. These techniques are not new to me and well known in the hypnosis world.

Hypnosis is one of the easier ways to lose weight and yes hypnosis does work great when it comes to weight management. A great hypnotist by the name of Tom Nicoli showed the world how powerful hypnosis is when it comes to weight loss. He was featured on NBC’s Dateline Weight Loss challenge and the person he worked with loss more weight then anyone else. So it’s not surprising that a television show would come around dealing with this issue. Overall the energy of the show is well maintained and when you hear the stories of these people you can’t help to see a little of yourself in them to a degree. I also battled weight problems for a long time in my life. Hypnosis helped me to overcome those problems and I continue to use hypnosis for this issue.

The one part of the show I really enjoy is where Paul walks the studio audience and the television audience through the different techniques. It’s almost as if you are getting a hypnosis session in your living room sort of. Remember Paul doesn’t tell anyone some of these techniques are hypnosis based. Most of the techniques used are good ones, but I believe he should explain some of them a little more in depth. Due to television time though I can understand why he can’t spent a lot of time on the subject. The reason being is some people may misuse some of the techniques to a degree.

One of these techniques which is” eat when you’re hungry” could be misunderstood by some. While this technique can be helpful for most people it can be harmful to some. Some people who are overweight have programmed themselves to be hungry all the time or hungry more than normal. These are the people who may eat for emotionally reasons or many other factors. So to tell these peoples to eat when hungry can be more harmful then good since some people feel the urge to eat all the time or a majority of the time. I know the reason they don’t go into more depth is because it’s a TV show and the show has to be edited to fit within the 45 min. time frame.

This is just one little thing I noticed and thought people should know. Overall, I think the show is done in a decent light and if the methods are helping people to lose weight than I’m all for it. This show is just another example of how hypnosis is all around us. I recommend everyone check it out and judge the show and its methods for yourself.

(Interesting Note)

As I was writing this little article I came across some information I find very interesting. So since it relates to the show I report this information. It turns out that Paul Mckenna has sued a fellow hypnotist by the name of Wendi Friesen. Wendi is another well-known hypnotist and the owner of the domain name Icanmakeyouthin.com, which happens to be the same name of the show. She is also just a nice and wonderful person as well. Now, Wendi has owned this domain name longer then the show has been on TV.

So I guess Paul has sent his lawyers after Wendi to try and “Steal” the domain name through the legal system. Wendi isn’t taking this laying down and is making this known to the public through youtube videos, her websites and etc. I’m surprised at the actions of Paul Mckenna and would think he would have more honor then this, but in today’s world who knows. I can understand, as a businessman the desire to want a domain that has the same title as show, but come on Paul this is pretty low.

I support Wendi 100 percent in this battle and don’t think its right to try and legally “steal” something that Wendi is the owner of and has been for a while. Please understand that my views of the actually show I can make you thin are separate from my views of the actions of Paul Mckenna on this issue. I think the show is done in a decent light, not great, but decent. Yet, I have to admit finding out this news my faith in Paul and the show have been affected in a negative way. Once again these are just my opinions and I hope Wendi wins this battle. I mean for god shakes she is already the owner of the domain!

One Response to “I can make you thin”
  1. I think it’s really amusing that Wendi Freisen, another noted hypnotherapist, already OWNED the web site www.icanmakeyouthin.com BEFORE Paul McKenna came over here and tried to take over HER intellectual rights to the name!

I hope Wendi simply SELLS the site to him for a reasonably large pile of bucks and walks away grinning that patented grin of hers, after suitable ribbing him over the error of his ways.
