Hypnosis Training

Wendy MerronWe love reading about affirmations that promise to change our lives. Numerous authors have written books and generously shared the affirmations that worked for them. We devour these self-help books and become excited about the changes that can happen in our life. We dutifully follow the instructions in the book and then read or write the affirmations that appeal to us.

Here is a typical scenario: every day you wake up you read the affirmations. Every night before you go to bed you read them. You are conscientious and don’t skip a day.

But a few weeks go by and one day you wake up and notice that NOTHING has changed. You are your same old self. You have the same old job. Those same old habits control you. You notice that reading and writing those affirmations didn’t make a darn bit of difference.

WHY SHOULD I BOTHER WITH AFFIRMATIONS?

Affirmations are great. But most affirmations fail miserably. Why? Because they usually are SOMEONE else’s affirmations.

As a National Guild of Hypnotist Certified Instructor, I teach Affirmations to all of my Hypnosis Students. It’s important that every one of our clients reinforce the habit changes they desire. Clients come to us for Hypnosis and learn that Hypnosis is not a “magic pill”, though it does seem this way. Clients learn that reinforcement is a key component to personal success.

A good hypnotist does his or her job. And then you, as a client, must follow through and do your by reinforcing your desired results with a custom affirmation designed just for you.

IF IT WORKED FOR HIM, IT WILL WORK FOR ME

Affirmations are an important part of positive change. You’ll get a lot more bang for your buck if you learn how to create your own. Your personal affirmation will be accepted by your subconscious mind much more easily than someone else’s.

Take a few moments right now and quickly imagine the perfect dinner for yourself. Choose the main dish, the accompaniments, the beverage, the dessert. Take a moment and imagine it just the way you would love it to be.

Then briefly answer these questions: TRUE FALSE

1. Is the main course appealing?
2. Is the dessert a favorite of yours?
3. Will you enjoy eating it?

Of course the answers to all of these questions are TRUE!

Now…imagine you are invited to a friend’s home for dinner. She has promised you an exquisite dinner with wonderful food. As you are being served you notice that it is definitely a lovely dinner. Beautifully prepared and plated in a lovely manner. Is it your perfect dinner? Probably not. But it is her perfect dinner.

When you use someone else’s affirmations, well, then it’s just like eating someone else’s perfect dinner. It may taste good. But it’s not perfect for you.

    Wendy,

I love your article on Affirmations! especially that you state they must be our own affirmations and not anyone else’s. too many people fall into the self help trap of reading other peoples books on affirmations that make no sense for the issue he or she is trying to resolve. A cool device i created/use is to take 3×5 cards and write down positive affirmations stated in the present tense. It works miracles!
