I was a little nervous because as I just mentioned I don’t do this type of thing much so I had to step out of my comfort zone, but in the end I can only get better right? I want to thank everyone that turned out for the call. It really means a lot to John and me.

So How Did The Call Go?

For the most part the call went really good. The call was supposed to only last an hour, but we ended up going for an hour and a half. We did have some audio problems during the first half of the call which was beyond our control, but the problem correctly it’s self and the second half of the call went pretty smooth I must say.

We had a great turnout with some really big names in hypnosis on the call. My good friends Larry Elman (son of Dave Elman) and his wife Cheryl Elman were both on the call. Honestly I was only expecting my readers and some of John’s, but it was a great turn out.

Beside the noise during the first half John introduced himself and gave background on his experiences, his vision for our profession and why he created the Hypnosis Business Coaching Home Study Course. As I explained before the first call was going to be more of an introduction and a inside look into how his program can help hypnotists to grow their business.

This wasn’t a pitch fest by any means, but the calls were born from helping people to understand the new program from John Weir. Once we finished the introduction we got into the real meat of the Teleseminar calls which is answering questions from John and once in a while myself.

Since time for the call was limited we could only take a few email questions, but the ones we got were really good and John provided some serious value to everyone on the call. John told listeners how to book more clients, how to build websites for free, the difference between branding and marketing and a lot more.

John Weir Answered Questioned From The Audience

After we answered some readers emails ( please submit your questions to us. Anything you want to know about building and marketing your practice and well answer it live on the call.) we moved on to questions from the people on the call. We were hoping for some questions from people, but for some reason people tend to be shy about speaking up on the call. John as well as I have experienced this before with coaching programs we have put on.

Just remember that we are doing this for you. How many times in life will you get to ask two Hypnotists who are experts at building a business and marketing anything you want to know to help you promote and market your business and practice? So don’t be shy…we don’t bite!

Only after the call ended did we find out that a few people did attempt to speak up and ask some questions, but for whatever reason they had some problems with their voice coming through. This is to be expected as technology isn’t perfect and stuff happens. I wanted to use another word for stuff, but you get the idea.

I honestly believe that it’s a lack of knowledge on how to get started and where to go.

Hypnosis trainers teach the latest techniques, but rarely teach you how to get people into your office so you can use those techniques. This is a huge problem and one John Weir along with his business partner, Bob Bicknell are trying to solve.

Is It Just A Dream?

Tell me if the following sounds familiar to you in any way. You went to a training, spend a lot of money and time, learned all the newest techniques, received your certification and came out of class pumped, ready to start your own hypnosis practice, help people and make a lot of money. You’ve come out of this hypnosis training with dreams of leaving your day job, dreams of helping people to overcome their problems and dreams of creating a rewarding financial future.

You buy a nice recliner chair, find a decent office, open your door for business and then….NOTHING! You wait, you wait and maybe you get a client, maybe you get two clients, but in the end you barely make any money, you start to question yourself, your training and eventually have to close up shop, go part time or quit and work a normal job again. Does this sound familiar to you? It should as this is the reality for many Hypnotists.

We get lost in the dreams of success when the reality of the situation is the moment you decided to open up a hypnosis practice you became a business owner instead of a Hypnotist.

This Isn’t The Way It Should Be

The example above is a sad one and the truth of the situation is that because the average Hypnotist doesn’t realize or understand that you have to be more then a hypnotist to be successful in this business. This illusion that all you have to do is start a practice and open your door for business is killing our profession. Most Hypnotists are either Hobbyist or working part time and it’s not because they want to. It’s because they just aren’t receiving enough business to keep things going full time. This really concerns me and it should concern you because someone who is doing hypnosis as a hobby or working part time, struggling to barely make ends meet.

As Hypnotists we have an amazing toolbox of skills which can help people change their lives and yet most hypnotist can barely make a living. This isn’t the way it should be.

Why Are Some Hypnotists More Successful Then Others?

Why are Hypnotists like Tom Nicoli, Jerry Kein, Cal Banyan, John Weir, Matt Sison, myself and a few others able to make full time income, get featured on the news, television, newspapers and so on and be branded as the obvious expert in their area? Could it be their location? Is it where we received our training?

Why do you know names such as Tom Nicoli and others? It’s because they are considered experts in their field which is a direct result of their branding and marketing efforts. It’s not magic. We just understand that if you don’t tell anyone what you do then how will they find you and come to your office? To be successful you must market yourself as the expert.

The biggest lie ever sold to us is that all we need to do is know how to hypnotize someone. I’m sure like most people you never went to business school or went after a degree in marketing. Most Hypnotists have never even read a book on business, entrepreneurship or marketing.  The real question is how do we learn what we need to know to become successful Hypnotists? Well…the answer is being brought to us by someone you may know who goes by the name of John Weir!

Who Is John Weir?

If you’ve been doing hypnosis for a while or belong to the National Guild of Hypnotists then I’m sure you’ve heard of John. He’s the new face of hypnosis. He’s young, talented, smart and one hell of a marketer/business man. John wasn’t some rich kid and he didn’t have access to a lot of a cash to start his business. He had no business training, no marketing training and at the time he didn’t even have a college education. John, at the age of 19 was delivering pizzas for Pizza Hut for $5.00 an hour.

He learned how to succeed in the hypnosis business with NO money, NO advertising capital and not a single ounce of credibility to his name. Within a pretty short amount of time John went from $5.00 an hour to well over $150 per hour and have more clients then he could handle. All of this came through trial and error and a serious passion to spread the word about the power of hypnosis.

So now let me answer the question which was asked earlier which was how do we learn how to become successful Hypnotists? The answer is pretty clear now….we learn from the failures and successes of someone who was exactly where you are and is where you want to be.

The Hypnosis Business Coaching Home Study Course

John and I haven’t known each other long, but in the short time we have known each other we’ve become  good friends because of our similar interests. Out of all the things we have in common the one thing above all else is our love for hypnosis and our belief that our profession could be taken to another level if we had more successful full time hypnotist.

Modules

The modules are what you would call the main course. Each module is presented to you in an interview fashion where either Bob ask John questions or vice versa. Each module is around an hour or longer and contains very in-depth details and instructions.  Here a small breakdown of some of the info included in the modules.

NOTE: I am only providing a few of the things John and Bob cover as the course is so large and comprehensive I would have to turn this post into an e-book to fit it all in. Also, feel free to listen to any of the modules in whatever order you like. There is no specific order, but I do recommend at least listening to the Introduction Module First and then the module on Guerrilla Marketing. After that, feel free to jump in!

Introduction to Hypnosis Business Coaching

This is the shortest of all the modules and is really nothing more then an introduction, but that doesn’t make it any less powerful. This introduction sets up the rest of the course and also allows you to see why John is so passionate about this program.

Guerrilla Marketing

Our of all the modules this would have to be my favorite one because it shows you what you can truly achieve if you just put in a little time and effort. In this module John takes you to the start of it all and tells you his story, walking you step by step the exact same methods, strategies and techniques he used to start spreading the word about himself and his practice. John leaves no stone unturned in this module covering everything from business cards, brochures & how they should look and what they should say to where and how to pass them out. You’ll learn how to put on corporate events and have companies write you some serious checks! Oh…John even shares his secret to finding office space for cheap and sometimes for free.

Press Release Module

This is the most powerful module of them all in my opinion as John shares his biggest secret to success and holds nothing back. Press releases are one of the quickest and cheapest ways to get known as the obvious expert in your area and to attract the attention of major media outlets. Here are just a few of the topics John covers. You’ll discover what a press release is, how to get in every media outlet in your area for free, how to promote your events/seminars, the Biggest mistake people make when doing press releases and the number one thing to avoid and much more.

Social Media Strategies

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while then you know how I preach that Hypnotist need to learn to utilize the internet. It’s one of the most powerful methods of marketing that exist today and if your not using it you’re being left behind. Well John and Bob share my belief on this subject. In this module you’ll learn how to use Social Media and leverage it to market your business. Sites like Facebook, Youtube, Twitter and many other sites are much more then just a place to find lost, forgotten friends. They are a powerful form of marketing and allows your message to be seen by millions of people. Don’t worry if your new to the internet or these sites as John and Bob walk you step by step through every little detail.

Social Networking

I would recommend you listen to this module next as it goes even deeper into the world of Social Media and really helps you to understand the power of relationships when it comes to marketing. How you can network with others in your profession, meet people who can help you and people who you can help. The internet allows us to market ourselves to the entire world instead of just the local yellow pages. Very cool module.

Unlimited Referrals

Referrals are a critical part of running a successful hypnosis practice. You won’t be in business long without referrals and John is an expert at this subject. In addition, this module also discusses a subject which seems to cause a problem for  a lot of hypnotists. Working with other professionals such as doctors, therapist and etc. You’ll learn how to get them to send you tons of referrals and thank you for allowing them to send their patients to you. To date I haven’t seen a program that is this in-depth on referrals from clients, strangers and professionals. Honestly, in my opinion John could sell this one module as a separate course as it’s just that good. The amount of detail John goes into is mind blowing to say the least.

Youtube Module

If you aren’t using Youtube right now then what are you waiting for. You’ll learn how to find keywords which will help your videos rank higher, how to optimize your videos, Discover who your audience is, How to create videos without ever being seen, What type of equipment you’ll need to make your life simple, resources and so much more.

There Has Never Been A Program Like This Before

As you can see John and Bob have sparred no expense in bringing you a complete, in depth and comprehension course that will give you all the skills, resources, knowledge and tools you need to be successful as a Hypnotist. As I said earlier it would take me forever to list everything covered in this course as it’s filled with gold! Every successful Hypnotist in our business has used these tactics or a mixture of these methods and techniques at some point in time to become the obvious expert in their area. You can too!

As you listen to the program you can hear the passion in John and Bob’s voice and you can see that this course means everything to them. John truly believes that this program can change the course of Hypnosis forever and guess what….I completely agree. I know that reviews should be a little bias, but I too believe that our profession isn’t living up to what it could be and that’s because most of us are part time or aren’t even practicing and this is a direct result of Hypnotists know be taught how to market their new practice.

There Isn’t Enough Business For All Of Us – Not True!

One of biggest problems I see with our profession is the competition model. Hypnotists tend to act as if they are competing with every other hypnotist in their area. This creates a division between all of us and this way of thinking is completely untrue.

There is more then enough business for everyone. There is an abundance amount of money and clients so stop competing with each other. This way of thinking actually holds you back when you should be moving forward. There is no excuse for you not to be making five or six figures a year putting the strategies and methods in this program to use.

I talked to John a lot during the creation of this course and have seen it evolve into something more then a home study course. I have seen it evolve into a vision for the future of our profession. I personally would like to see this course taught to every future hypnosis student. I know that by exposing yourself to the knowledge in this course you will change your life if you act on the information presented. I have a background in business and marketing and I can speak from my own experience that this course is the real deal.

I have yet to see a course as n-depth as this program and that contains the wisdom from start to finish of one of the most successful hypnotist in the United States today.

Hypnosis Business Coaching Review Conclusion

I can’t promise you’ll be successful using all of the information laid out in this program, but that’s because I can’t see what you do after you listen to this information. All I can say is that the same information in this course has and is being used by the most successful Hypnotists of our time and it would cost you thousands and thousands of dollars to get a hold of this information on your own from different sources. Let’s not even talk about how many hours it would take for you to acquire this knowledge.

I’ve reviewed a lot of programs here on this blog and have read even more in my personal and professional life and this has to be the most powerful program I’ve ever reviewed. I have yet to find any flaws within the program. The audio is clear and sounds good, the resources are professional produced, the information is golden.

This review is already long enough so let me finish with these few words. If you are serious about becoming a practicing hypnotist and want to help the most people you can while making insane amounts of money then you NEED this course. Look at this course as an investment in your life instead of another training program.

Don’t look back at this moment 5 years from now and think, why didn’t I take action. Success can be yours if you truly want it. If you decide for some strange reason that this program isn’t for you then please do me a favor and at least tell others about it. Hopefully John’s vision as well as my own for this program can become a reality….someday.

To do this, keep this principle in mind, “Under promise and over deliver.” Always go above and beyond your client’s expectations to ensure their success. Next principle to always stay true to is the idea of “Top of Mind Awareness.” What this principle means is continuing to stay in contact with your clients so that you stay in the forefront of their minds and they continue to think of you long after their sessions are completed. Please understand that I am not implying that you spam your clients or send them tons of information all the time. What I mean by this is making some sort of personal contact with them periodically such as a phone call or personal email to check in on them and see how they are doing in addition to your normal marketing. Perhaps the best way to create raving fans and steady streams of referral business is to send your client handwritten thank you notes after the session. In the world today everything is electronic and handwriting a thank you note to your clients will separate you from the pack. When you take the time to handwrite a thank you note it conveys love and appreciation to your clients. Trust me if you do this they will remember you forever! Be sure to also include business cards in your thank you note so that your new raving fan can go out and spread the word.

Finally, after a successful session with a client, give them some business cards (always a minimum of 3) and ask them to share them with others who could benefit from a session. When you ask…you receive.

In this post, I want to key you in on this mistake on the phone and teach you how you can overcome it to boost your business.

In my experience, when potential clients call my office they typically ask 3 questions. “Do you help people with this problem?” “How many sessions does it take?” “How much does it cost for a session(s)?”

The biggest mistake made by most hypnotists, not properly trained in sales, is giving potential clients direct answers to these questions. What tends to happen when these questions are asked, the ineffective hypnotist will directly answer these questions with something like, “yes I help people do that,” “it will take this number of sessions,” and “I charge this much per session.” As soon as they answer these questions more often than not that ends the phone call and the sale is lost.

If you want to increase your conversion rate and turn your calls into clients then it is essential that you get your potential clients to open up rather than just answer their questions. In life people make three types of investments; time, energy, and money. Your goal on the phone should be to get your client to invest their time and energy into the call which greatly increases the likelihood of them investing their money in your services.

So how do you get your clients to open up? This is very simple to do if you follow two crucial rules. Rule number one is never answer a caller’s initial questions with direct answers. Rule number two is answer their questions with a question. By answering a question with a question it encourages the client to divulge more information about their situation. This is crucial to getting the caller to open up and invest their time and energy.

Here are a few simple examples of this:

Caller: “Do you help people with weight loss?”
Hypnotist: “Can you please tell me more about your situation so I can best answer you based on your needs?”

Caller: “How many sessions does it take to quit smoking?”
Hypnotist: “Can you tell me more about your habit?”

Caller: “How much do your sessions cost?”
Hypnotist: “What is it that you want to achieve using hypnosis?”

These are 3 very simple examples of answering a question with a question. I would encourage you to think about the common questions you get on the phone and how to respond to a caller in a way that gets them talking rather than giving direct answers. Trust me this will increase your conversion rate significantly.

My goal is to have the caller on the phone for at least 15 minutes for several reasons. First, I want the caller to invest their time and energy. Second, I want to use questions to elicit information about the client so I know what I need to say in order to close the sale. Selling hypnosis is all about selling value. It is impossible to sell value if you know nothing about the person and what’s important to them. Finally, I want to create rapport with the person and demonstrate to them by listening that I really care about them.

This is perhaps the most important reason why I want to get them opening up to me. The ineffective hypnotist in regards to selling, answers the caller directly which leaves them with a cold, distant, and unattached feeling to the hypnotist. By spending time with them on the phone and truly listening, the caller will get a feeling of love and connectedness to you. Consequently, they will feel the most comfortable with you and more often than not will become a new client of yours.

In addition, if the caller just invested 15-20 minutes of their time and invested their energy talking about their problems they are unlikely to want to continue to call other hypnotists and do the same thing over again. Even if they do call another hypnotist, most make the biggest phone mistake, and the caller will end up calling you right back to book sessions with you due to the rapport that was created. They will have an intuitive feeling that you are the right one for the job and this all will happen just because of your willingness to listen to them and get them opening up.

By following this simple phone approach you will notice an increase in your conversion of caller into clients. Take time to develop these skills because there are so many people that need your help. Taking action is what makes your dreams become a reality. “The Thought Is Always More Overwhelming Than The Task.” I heard this influential thought from my good friend as well as someone I highly respect and admire, Tom Nicoli. I find this statement to carry tremendous power and one that resonates a high level of truth to me. So often our minds want to play tricks on us in order to maintain the status quo and keep us from growing. The mind tends to make tasks, especially new ones, much bigger than what they really are and such a major thing. Once we transcend past the mind, more often than not we discover that the task itself is relatively easy to accomplish. I remember when Tom Nicoli started World Hypnotism Day and introduced the idea of getting mayoral proclamations from cities declaring January 4th World Hypnotism day.

When I heard this idea it was music to my ears. I thought what an awesome way to do something great for the profession as a whole and in the process get some free publicity. However, even though the entire process was broken down for everybody on the WHD website since it was something I never did before my mind started playing its tricks. My initial thought was it was going to be a difficult task to complete and so needless to say I procrastinated on completing it for weeks. Eventually, it was getting closer to the deadline date for this task and since I was committed to doing this I finally took action. In less than 30 minutes, I had my first mayoral proclamation from the city of Pittsburgh.

The thought of this being a big task caused me to procrastinate for weeks instead of just taking action and realizing how easy it really was. I now always replace any negative thoughts about taking action with “the thought is always more overwhelming than the task” and then just do it. This has helped me majorly. Thanks Tom.

“Champions Are Made When Nobody Is Around.” This is what my father would tell me when I was growing up playing sports. He impressed upon me the concept that time spent practicing equaled awesome results on the playing field. This saying of his has inspired me for the majority of my life. It helped me to realize that in sports, it is too late to develop your skills when you are in the game. Game time is when you demonstrate your skills and talents. The same thing is true about our profession. It is too late to learn hypno-skills when a client is in your office. Use your downtime to sharpen your skills so you can be the most effective you can be in your sessions. I recommend using this powerful saying when you are just sitting around. Trust me it will inspire you to get up and take action.

To do this, let the interested person know that if they are willing to host the party and can find 5 or more people to sign up then they can get their session(s) for free. Step three is to go to the host’s house and conduct the session(s). Step four is to ask all in attendance for a list of names and contact information of people who they think would be interested in this type of party.

There are so many benefits to implementing this into your business plan. First of all, it eliminates the expenses that come with an office space. Second, it eliminates strangers from coming to your house for sessions. Third, group sessions like this increase your earning potential for your time. Finally, after you do the group, you can build a new lead list by asking the clients for referrals.

In my opinion, weight management and past life regression parties are the best because you can make them multi-session programs. Also, be sure to get the investment for the sessions in advance to eliminate the possibility of showing up for the session and not having your minimum number there.

The 3 Steps To Giving Public Talks

Step one is to find groups to speak for. Did you know that there are hundreds of local groups in your area such as Rotary Club, Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, etc that are desperate for speakers to have at their weekly meetings? These groups are perfect to speak for because they composed of your area’s business leaders, movers and shakers, and people who have large networks of people. To get an opportunity to speak for these groups is very easy. Simply go online and do a search for these various groups in your local area. Next, make a phone call and express your interest in speaking for their group. Finally, once you get them to book you, ask if they know of any other local chapters or groups that would be interested in having you speak for them too. It is easier than you would think to line up a bunch of free lectures this way. So get on the phone and line up some lectures.

Step two is to develop a lecture that is 15-20 minutes long. What I typically do when speaking for these groups is give them a modified pre-talk like the one I would give to a new client at my office. In my talks, I usually spend some time building mental expectancy about what is possible by using hypnosis in one’s life, I dispel the major misconceptions/fears, and if time permits I do group activities to demonstrate the power of the mind. If you follow your pre-talk format then it should be very easy to create a 15 minute lecture.

Step three is to promote your services. This is where you can make your free talk into a profitable 15 minutes. An interesting thing that happens at live lectures and seminars is people get emotional hooked, and want to take immediate action on what is being offered. Once I get everyone excited about hypnosis then I do a quick plug for my services. I offer discounted sessions for anybody who books afterwards as well as discounts on my products. These talks have always been very profitable for me. I usually walk out with $150-$200+ in product sales and these lectures have always generated new clients.

A couple simple tips you can do to maximize your social network pages is to always list your website, add captions to pictures that are related to your business, and consistently add content. When I started my practice at 19 years old, needless to say I didn’t have the capital to put forth a major marketing campaign to grow my business. My abundance of capital didn’t come in the form as money, but as time and energy. As I ponder ways to utilize my resources, I was very fortunate to have been exposed to a concept called “Guerilla Marketing.”

This approach to marketing focuses on inexpensive ways to reach the masses of people. These strategies not only influenced my business when I started but they are the things I am still implementing to this day to inform the public about my services. Of all the guerrilla marketing strategies, the one I am most fond of is the use of the press release.

What Is A Press Release?

A press release, or news release, is a short article submitted to the press that reports news or something that is newsworthy. What is newsworthy? Virtually anything can be considered newsworthy such as completing a certification course, winning an award, speaking at an event, and so on. It is important to know that press releases are not disguised ads. Press releases report nothing but the facts (who, what, where, when, or how) and are written as if you are an unbiased reporter on the subject. When a press release is written proper and accepted by a media forum then it usually turns into free articles in the newspaper, appearances on radio shows or television, and other opportunities in the media. The intention behind this post is to inform hypnotists and coaches of the benefits of using press releases to grow your business as well as to hopefully inspire you to look into this simple process more deeply.

In my opinion, there are 3 key benefits that make press releases one of the absolute best ways to grow your business.

The first reason why I love using press releases is the fact that they are 100% free. When I looked into putting advertisements into the major newspapers or magazines, I was quite shocked how much a single printing of an ad would cost with no guarantee of results. However, most people are unaware that there are other ways to get into the media and get what people pay top dollar to have for free. One of these ways is by writing and submitting press releases. People don’t realize that the media is desperate for news. It takes a tremendous amount of content to fill radio shows, newspapers, and television programs each day. The media wants you as much as you want to be in the media.

All that is required to get thousands of dollars of free advertising is a little creative, time, and energy.

The second key benefit of using press releases is massive amounts of exposure. It’s always been my belief that the golden rule of marketing has always been “more expose equals more business.” Sales and business is a numbers game. The more people who are exposed to what you do the greater the likelihood of someone taking action. Not only are press releases free but they have the potential to reach hundreds of thousands of people. Back in my hometown of Pittsburgh, the major newspapers there had readerships in the range of 400,000 people. Wouldn’t you like to expose your business to 400,000+ people for free? This is the power of the press release.

Massive exposure and for free, doesn’t get any better than that.

Perhaps the most important benefit to using press releases to grow your business is the increase in prestige it brings. Elsom Eldridge wrote a book called “The Obvious Expert” which focuses on establishing yourself in your community as the go to person or the obvious expert in the area. Getting featured in the newspaper and appearing as a guest on radio and television shows is one of the easiest ways to be considered the area’s best. People have the perception that what’s in the media is true and since you were featured than you must be the best or why would the media be featuring you? Press releases are what generate these media appearances and give you instant boost in prestige in your community.

Being The Expert Means More Business

The more you get featured the more obvious your status as the expert becomes which consequently creates an increase in business. Plus, since your feature in the media isn’t a paid ad, it carries greater credibility with the public and potential clients.

When I was asked during the 2009 NGH Platinum Panel of Success “If I could pick just one marketing strategy to grow my business what would it be,” I immediately said the use of press releases. Regardless of where you are at in your business, utilizing press releases is a sure fire way to attract more clients to your office and increase your expert status in your area. I hope that this post has opened your eyes to the unlimited potential of this free marketing strategy and inspired you to take action in writing your own press releases.

In the past decade of working as a full-time hypnotist, I have come to realize that despite all the different approaches to creating wellness through hypnosis there are two things that every hypnotist has in common; we all have to wear two hats to succeed in this profession. The ability to successfully wear both of these hats, or fulfill these two roles, will be the determining factor in how far you will go in this field.

The first hat that we all must wear is the one of the helper. Since you are a hypnotist, I would make the assumption that you have the genuine desire to help people succeed and reach their goals. It is quite obvious that helping people create their desired improvements is our primary role in the profession and perhaps the easiest way to get your business to grow. However, it is the ability to wear the other hat in this profession that enables word of mouth to spread about your business and get people into your office.

The other primary hat that all hypnotists must wear, but the one most often forgotten about, is the hat of the entrepreneur. In order to get people into your office so that you can provide your life-changing service, it is essential that you embrace the entrepreneurial spirit in you. I would encourage you, like I do with all of my hypnotism students, to take the time to get educated on business especially sales and marketing with the same enthusiasm that they study techniques related to hypnosis. Follow the advice of Michael Gerber from The E-Myth, “Take time out to work on your business not just in your business.”

You Always Have Time To Learn A New Skill. No Excuses Please

When I first started my business at 19 years old, I felt very comfortable with my skills as a hypnotist but not so much with my new role as someone who suddenly found themselves self-employed. I can honestly say that I didn’t have the slightest clue on how to grow a business when I got started. I knew that I needed to find ways to let people know about my services however I didn’t know what to do or even where to start. Instead of an education from academia, I decided to get educated through what Zig Ziglar calls “automobile university.” As I cruised around in my car, I would listen to one audio program after another on different business topics in order to understand how to make my dreams become a reality.

Some of my favorite speakers that influenced me in business include Zig Ziglar, Tom Hopkins, Tom Peters, Stephen Covey, John Maxwell, Les Brown, and Anthony Robbins. Besides automobile university, it took a lot of persistence as well as trial and error on my part in order to get my practice to grow and make a living serving others. If you are in a similar situation as I was when getting started, I highly encourage you to turn your car into a university to begin filling your mind with ways to succeed in business.

Wear The Two Hats And Experience Serious Success

Understand that embracing your role as an entrepreneur is just as important to success as being a proficient hypnotist. Take time each day to develop both of these roles so you feel comfortable wearing the two hats of a successful hypnotist. Use your hypnotic skills and link tons of positive, fun energy to spreading the word about your business so that you have more opportunities to share your talents with others in need. When your business grows then that means you have the ability to be a positive influence in more people’s lives and expose more people to the power of the mind.

In my last post Controlling Pain with Hypnosis Part 3 I mentioned I have something cool coming to the blog in the next day or so  and that day will be tomorrow, Friday the 4th.

As we all know when a new year rolls around people like to make changes, improve themselves and set goals. I’m one of these people and one of my goals this year was to add even more value to the hypnosis blog. I’ve already made a number of changes, added a number of post and I’m not even half way done yet, but I’m not here to talk about myself….

How Can I Build A Successful Practice?

One of the most asked questions I receive beside “how to do instant inductions?” is how can I build a profitable hypnosis business and get more clients to my office? How can I make more money with my practice?

It makes sense that this question would be asked a lot because without a steady influx of clients you can’t stay in business.  If you can’t keep your doors open for business then you can’ t help people and make money doing what you love. During my years as a professional hypnotists I’ve noticed something with most hypnotists. Most hypnotists seem to have problems with the business and marketing side of things. The truth is if you want to be successful in this business you have to know how to do more then help people. You have to wear two hats, one as a healer/helper and one as an entrepreneur. ( Don’t worry if that didn’t make sense. It will all be explained tomorrow for you.)

Oddly enough I have always found the business side pretty easy as my background is in business and marketing. The troublesome part for me was actually learning hypnosis in the beginning. Another odd thing I’ve noticed is the huge lack of hypnotists taking advantage of one of the biggest marketing platforms available, the internet. The simple truth is that handing out business cards and running an ad in the yellow pages just isn’t enough. You may get a client or two, but no where near the amount you need to keep your doors open and make a good living with hypnosis.

Hypnosis Business Coaching with John Weir

As most of you know over the last few months I’ve been posting more and more on the business side of being a Hypnotist. Since I come from a business background I’ve wanted to share insights, tips and techniques which can help improve your hypnosis practice or business. So far the response to these type of post have been really great and I have been receiving a lot of great feedback from fellow Hypnotists. Since the response has been good I’ve decided to move forward with another post dealing with taking your business online which I hope gives you something to think about in terms of growing your business and client base.

Now, if your a SERIOUS Hypnotist who wants to make the art of Hypnotism a profession then its critical to think like an entrepreneur. Most Hypnotists get into this profession to help people and seem to forget the part about making a profit. There is nothing wrong with helping people as I also got into this profession to help people, but I believe there is nothing wrong with making money doing something you love as long as you provide value to your clients or customers. The truth of the matter is how long can you stay in business, helping people if you can’t pay the bills of your business? That’s just something to think about.

An Online Hypnosis Business Is The Right Move

As you can tell from the title of this post my goal is to help you understand how critical and how important it is to expand your hypnosis business online. Anyone can have short term success, but long term success is what we really want because that means we have the power to keep going during the good and the bad. Having an understanding of business, marketing and an entrepreneur spirit is super important, but at the end of the day, in my opinion the key to having long-term success is to take your business online.

The internet is one of the most powerful tools available for business owners today. The Internet allows you to take your business GLOBAL without ever leaving your house. Your reach and influence is 1000x more powerful then anything you could do on your own in an off-line fashion. Why help 10 people when you can help the whole world. Okay, you may not be able to help the whole world, but it’s not a bad dream is it? Some of you reading this article have thought about taking the online plunge, but something held you back. My goal is that this post will motivate you to take action because I think deep down somewhere in your loving, caring brain you know it’s the right move at this point and time.

Great Hypnotists Have Something In Common

I want you to take a moment and think of all the Hypnotists in our profession that stand out from the rest. When I take the time to reflect upon those Hypnotists I come up with names such as:

• Tom Nicoli
• Calvin Banyan
• Adam Eason
• Richard Nongard

Now, it’s quiz time here on whatsonmybrain.com and the question is beside all of these Hypnotists being great trainers, what else do they have in common? You guessed it. All of these Hypnotists have online businesses.Think of how you discovered most of the Hypnotists you look up today. I’m sure you heard about most of them from some online form of marketing or referral. These Hypnotists were smart enough to know that to be successful long term you have to get with the times and take action to combine the internet into your existing business somehow.

Google Replaces The Yellow Pages

The search engine Google has pretty much become the new Yellow Pages. People no longer need to scroll through endless pages as all they have to do now is just type in what they are looking for and within seconds they have instant results. Technology has spoiled many of us, myself included to the point where we want information FAST.  In many aspects, community has even moved online. Everything from Social Networks, Dating Sites, Online Classes, Watching TV and more.

Let me give you an example for a moment. Let’s say Sally wants to find a Hypnotist to work with for something as simple as a fear of snakes. Sally turns on the computer, starts her internet and goes to Google.com to search for a Hypnotist. She types in her area or state and then the word Hypnosis and then clicks the search button. Within moments Sally has some results right in front of her. She sees a Hypnotist located about 60 miles from her as that is the closet one Google can find. She scrolls through a couple of pages on Google and nothing.

So she decides to give this Hypnotist a call and books a session. She would prefer someone in her area, but this is the closet one in her opinion since that is what Google gave her back. Now, the funny thing is your office is just 15 min away from her house, but because your not online with a web-page, business or whatever this client never found you. You just lost a possible client, possible money and all the referral that could have come from her business. Will every  potential client seek out help in this fashion, no, not at all, but a lot will. Especially younger or middle aged people who are use to the internet.

Gerald Kein from the Omni Hypnosis Training Center has one of the biggest online Hypnosis businesses in the world. People discover and purchase his Hypnosis Trainings from all over the world. You heard me right, ALL OVER THE WORLD! People discover his site, find the product or service they want, click the purchase button and then he makes money and helps people while just sitting at home. This is a perfect example of leverage. Once you set up your site/online business it will always work for you with very little work on your part. You do the work once and it will make you money over and over again.

What Hypnosis Services Or Products Can I Sell Online

Now, this is assuming you have some type of service or product to offer. It’s not hard to create products to sell but it does take some time and energy. Now, you don’t have to create products to have an online business. You can just have a simple website which tells people about your hypnosis practice and how you can help them. I still recommend every Hypnotist have at least some type of product or service to sell. I hear you saying well, what about you Josh? Where is your product? Well, I actually have two products which are in the finishing stages which will be released within the next few weeks. Better late then never is what my mom always used to say.

Here are a few ideas of different services or items you could sell

• Training DVDs
• Audio Programs
• Recordings
• Consultations
• Sessions – using Skype
• Books
• Home Study Courses
• E-Books & More.

Those are just a few services or items you could translate into an online business. All it takes is some effort and some brain storming.

I Just Don’t Have The Skills To Start An Online Hypnosis Business

Now, I know your thinking this sounds great Josh and I can see the benefits of moving my business online, but I don’t know where to start as I don’t have the technical skills or knowledge to set something like this up. This is actually a very common concern and it’s a valid one. The truth of the matter is that starting an online business is not rocket science. It’s no different then learning a new skill. Think of it in terms of when you first got involved in Hypnosis. When you got started you didn’t know anything about Hypnosis, but eventually after some time you learned.

I highly recommend you seek out some good training in the field of starting and running an online business. Now, you know I’m going to provide you with some resources and tips so don’t worry. Don’t let the FEAR of not knowing something stop you from TAKING ACTION. I personally build and maintain all my online businesses and  yes, I have a few beyond this website and even beyond the niche of Hypnosis. Now, you got to remember I’ve been trained in business, management, marketing and online business and marketing. I know for a fact that not everyone will be cut out for building an online business themselves and that’s fine. It’s actually super simple and all you really need is a wordpress blog to get started. Start small and then make small improvements over time which yield big results.

For people who don’t want to mess with building a site and setting it up then don’t. I highly recommend you use a service called Elance.com which is a online company that allows you place a job online and hire people who respond to your job request. I’ve been using this service for years and it’s gold and it’s free. I have found employees, writers, editors, website designers and just about anything you need.

All you have to do is visit the site, post the job you need done such as building you an online store or website and then wait for people to bid on the job. Then you can hire them based on their bid and other items. Now this brings up another issue which is how do I know what to tell him I want? This goes back to what I said earlier. I highly recommend you get training in starting and running an online business as it will save you time, money and energy in the long run. I also don’t want you to worry because I’m about to give you access to a resource which could change your business and life forever because I know it changed mine and many other successful Hypnotist.

Learn How To Start An Online Business From One Of My Teachers

Now, we all know I didn’t start out with massive amounts of knowledge in the field of online businesses and marketing. Hell, I still learn new stuff every day. The only reason I know some of this stuff now is because of my background in business and marketing. I, like everyone else on this planet learned from other people. People who are where I want to be eventually. I’ve learned from a lot of them, but there is one teacher  I would like to recommend to all of you interesting in learning how to start and run an online business and his name is Eben Pagan.

Some of you may know the name, but I’m going to take a wild leap and assume most of you don’t know who this man is. Eben Pagan isn’t a hypnotist, but he is one of the leading online business trainers in the world and has trained some of the most successful people and many well known Hypnotists in how to start and run an online business. I would like to give you some of the names of Hypnotists he has trained, but those people may get offended that I gave that information out to the general public. Hell, to be honest, I may get some hate mail from this post because I’m sharing an insider secret here with all of you. Eben Pagan is very well known by the Hypnosis Gurus and I know many of them keep this guy a secret because they don’t want others to learn the same stuff and become their competition.

Please excuse me for what I’m about to say, but I think that is a load of Bullshit! If we want our profession to grow by leaps and bounds we should all help each other to become the best we can. There is plenty of clients to go around for eeryone.I’m sure most of them would be okay, but I rather not start an internet war. Either way, I don’t believe in hording information. I know Eben Pagan is a powerful business resource and I have no problem sharing that with all of you. Eben isn’t a Hypnotist, but he is an avid personal development student and teacher and he, himself has learned from some of the best. He was even recently featured and interviewed by Tony Robbins for a new make money online program that Tony has released.

The online world is growing at an alarming rate, and this trend is set to continue for quite some time yet. Nothing has revolutionized our lives as the internet has done since perhaps the advent of the television. Many businesses have cottoned on to this huge global potential, and have poured massive resources into their online ventures. Hypnotherapists too have acknowledged this potential, and have quickly joined the clamor to have an online presence.

Some hypnotherapists sell their products on line, such as hypnosis CD’s, downloads, books, scripts etc. Others are content to use the web as an information resource for their practice, allowing people to look online for further information when they have read their business cards. Not only can owning a web site broaden a hypnotherapists’ client base, it can also give an increased credibility if they have a professional looking web site that displays their knowledge and experience.

What many hypnotherapists (and indeed people in most other markets) notice when they join this global phenomenon of seemingly endless potential, is that initially very few people actually visit their sites. You set up your brilliantly designed site, bursting full of great information and what happens? Not much. Visitors trickle in at best This can be both surprising and demoralizing when you consider that there are over 1.5 billion people online in the world, and the hours of time and money that you may have poured into this online venture.

In order to attract visitors you need to market your site. You need to tell people you are there. Even if you have a great site full of wonderful content, no one will know its there until you tell them. Just like you could be the greatest football player, singer or actor in the world, if no one knows about you, then the offers will not come rolling in.

One of the best ways to improve your online venture is to write articles, and submit them to popular article sites, particularly those in your niche. There are several benefits to writing articles to market your website.

It is customary for you to leave a bio and a link to your site at the end of your article. The link is very useful for two reasons. People may like what you have written and decide to click on your link to get to know more about you and your business. They will arrive at your site already with a positive perception of you, and may be more receptive to using your services and buying your products. Also search engines heavily regard links pointing to a site as indicting that it is a quality and trustworthy site. They send automated ‘bots’ all around the web, that go around adding up the amount of links you have pointing to your site. The search engines will then promote your site up their rankings the more links you have, giving you even more traffic.

Having many good articles floating around the internet can also help establish you as an expert in your field. It helps build up your trust and reputation, which can’t be all that bad for business. People will come across your (hopefully!) intelligently written articles and hold you in high esteem. Just think, people may even start quoting you within their own articles, and telling each other about you.

Many article submission sites allow people to use the articles you submit for their sites or blogs. Therefore if you write a good quality article, the chances are that other people will take your article and re-publish it on their sites and blogs, with your link and bio still attached. This helps you automatically build even more links to your site, and further enhances your reputation.

So why not give it a go? There are many great benefits to article marketing, it builds you direct traffic, helps you site rise through the search engine ranking, and is great for your reputation.

Perhaps I’ve left one of the greatest benefits until last. It is usually free! It doesn’t cost you anything, except the time it takes to write the article. This is free advertising that actually has many advantages over paid advertising. Customers will probably warm far more to a well written article offering them help, than a paid for banner or Adsense advert. They can almost feel like they know you when they read your contributions. Not only that, once you have written an article, you can potentially benefit from it for many years as new people discover it and read it, and new people continue to place it on their sites and blogs. So what are you waiting for?! You have nothing to lose and everything to gain!

Twitter Is A Powerful Tool For Hypnotists

As you can see I’ve been pretty busy with the blog lately and I got even more cool stuff planned. Btw, if you haven’t checked out the review of Sean Michael Andrews new project I recommend you give it a read through.

For those of you who don’t know my background is actually in business, marketing, management and all that good stuff. I love being able to take the knowledge from those fields and apply them to my other love, which is hypnotism. I have always believed that the major downfall of our profession is the lack of hypnotists who understand business or marketing. For some reason many hypnotists have this image of money being bad. This mindset actually keeps them from being wealthy or successful. So many hypnotists just open the doors to their practice, but never stop and think about the following items:

• Credibility and how everything we do impacts the way we people see us

• Marketing and how to use that marketing in a credible and creative manner

• Thinking outside the box

• Using web 2.0/the internet to supercharge your business or practice and other such things…

The simple truth of the matter is if you can’t keep your doors open for business then you won’t be helping as many people as you could with your skills as a hypnotist. The Hypnosis Business has so much potential for our profession, but hypnotists need to change the way they view their business and how they view themselves.  So over the next few weeks I’m going to be focuses a lot of the new blog posts on business and marketing and other creative ways to apply this knowledge to what we do as hypnotists. I want to give you the tools and the techniques to super charge your business in ways you never thought of.

So with all of that being said I hope truly serious hypnotists will take what I write in these following posts and apply them to their business. Here is a free tip for you. It’s called Speed of Implementation and what this means in simple language is how quickly you take what you have just learned and applied it to your business or whatever you’re working on.

Whenever you learn a new idea which you think will be useful ACT ON IT NOW! Don’t wait or sit around and think about it. Take that new idea or whatever it is and start to implement it ASAP. All successful people have this trait and I think it would serve you to remember that tip. Either way, let’s begins.

What Is Twitter?

So, I’m sure you heard about this social media giant called Twitter. Even if you don’t know about Twitter I’m sure you have heard something about it. It seems like everyone is using Twitter nowadays or talking about Twitter. If your one of those people into computers and the internet I’m sure you already have an idea of what Twitter is or you may have used it. If you’re not really into the whole web 2.0/internet thing then you may not know what Twitter is. Either way, I’m going to take a giant leap here and assume a good potion of my readers have heard about this powerful tool, but just aren’t sure exactly what it is and why it’s so powerful.

For those of you who don’t know Twitter is a website that allows people to micro blog about anything in their life. Micro-blogging is just like blogging, but you are limited to a certain number of characters per post. In the case of Twitter you are only allowed 140 characters. You can post as much as you want, but you have to fit what you want to say within 140 characters. I know, your thinking how can I express what I really want to say in only 140 characters? Trust me; I had the same problem when I started using Twitter. Micro-blogging makes it where you have to get really specific and clear about what you want to say.

It limits the conversation to the “real” meat in many ways. So now that you know what Micro-blogging is let’s continue. Twitter is considered a form of Social media, which I’m sure you heard before. Social media is another name for websites or tools that allow you to reach people in a social type of manner. Examples of social media would be Youtube, Facebook, Myspace, Bebo and a host of others. Smart marketers know how to leverage these tools to enhance their business and image. Eventually, you’ll be able to do that too with me help.

How Does Twitter Work

So Twitter is basically a social media tool which allows you to micro blog about anything you like. So how does this help me as a hypnotist or to promote my business? Okay, when you join Twitter you have the option to follow people.

Following just means you find what a person says interesting and you want to follow what they say. So let’s say you follow me on twitter. http://twitter.com/JoshuaHoughton

To do this, you would locate me on Twitter using the search feature or other tools which I will provide at the end of this guide. You can also click on links if a person uses one to link to their twitter account. They typically look like the one above.  Once you locate me you would hit follow and then I’m adding to the people you follow. So what happens then is once you follow me you’ll be able to see every post I make on your home screen for Twitter. You can also choose to direct message me or reply to what I said. This is done in Twitter by using the @ symbol and then typing the persons name. Example: @JoshuaHoughton

You would then start typing your reply to that message after you put @JoshuaHoughton. So a full reply typed up would look like this: [@JoshuaHoughton Thanks for the post. Look forward to learning more.] You get the idea!

Most of the time if you follow people most people will follow you back. What this means is that they get notified when you follow them so then they end up following you as well. This means they can see what you have to say on their Twitter page. So do you follow me so far? Sorry for the bad joke Once you join Twitter your goal is to seek out people you find interesting to follow and in exchange people who find you interested will follow you in return. In a perfect world you want to have more people follow you, if you’re planning to use Twitter to help with marketing your business and your image.

Why Twitter Is So Powerful

So now that you know the basics let me show you why Twitter is so powerful. Let’s say you follow me and let’s say I have 500 people who follow me. Well, if you follow me and I choose to follow you then everything you say will show up on my twitter home page. The reason is because I followed you so it’s showing up on my page. So if you respond to something I say or I respond to something you say all the people who follow me will be able to click on that conversation and see what you have to say. It’s almost like a viral effect. This is called leveraging. You just followed one person, which was me, but in exchange 500 people may possibly be exposed to what you have to say. That is leveraging and marketing at its best.

So let’s take it a step further. Let’s say you wrote a really great article about Hypnotism on your blog or you ran across an interesting article on a blog and you want to share it with the people who are following you. You would tweet it, which just means you type it in the box and hit send as long as it’s 140 characters or less. When you do this everyone who follows you will see it. Now, let’s say I follow you and I receive the link to this really cool article on Hypnotism. Well, I may decide to retweet it which means I would let everyone who follows me know about the article. Then, let’s say someone who follows me likes it. They may decide to let people who follow them know about it. Before you know it thousands of people have seen what you have to say or whatever it is you choose to tweet about.

I like to think of it as a row of dominos. As one domino is knocked down it can affect a lot more dominos depending on where there placed. I remember one time on Twitter I posted an article I wrote and some people who followed me found it interested. Well, one of the people who followed me had a following of 300 people and so they posted it where all of them could see and so on and so on. Now, just because 600 or 900 people may follow someone and retweet what you have to say doesn’t mean everyone will follow you back, but the chances are really in your favor. I’ll talk more later about how to increase your tweeter conversion.

So this is why Twitter is such a powerful tool. Your words or what you have to say reach people in a way you never could. You’re able to possibly reach thousands of people in just seconds if done right. So let’s say you have created a new product or opened a new business, created a free hypnosis mp3 or e-book you want to share with people. Then you could use Twitter to spread the word. Now, I’m not saying you should just use Twitter to promote what you are doing as that could hurt you in time. There is a correct way to do it which I’ll get into in a moment.

Who Should I Follow?

Now, you’re asking me who should I follow? Well, you should follow people you find interesting or what they have to say interesting. People who tweet stuff you can use or what to know more about! For instance, I’m into business, marketing and hypnosis so I locate people interested in the same stuff I am and follow them. You always hope the person follows you back, but that isn’t always the case. You can find people with like interest using many different tools. One way is to look at the person’s profile. Twitter allows every user to create a profile which let’s you tell people a little about you and a link to your website. Mine mentions I’m a hypnotist and links back to this blog. So anyone who would happen to run across my profile can read it and see if I’m into the same stuff them as them. Heck, just the fact that you can place your website on a site that has millions of users is powerful!

Twitter also has other tools available such as a search feature to locate people. You can even locate people from Facebook, blogs and websites. For example, on my homepage for this Hypnosis blog I have to the right of the screen a box that says subscribe to whatsonmybrain.com and if you look down you’ll see line that says “Follow me on Twitter” which will take you to my profile when clicked. Tons of other people do this as well. So if you’re into the hypnosis world check out some hypnosis blogs or websites and I’m sure you’ll find some people you know or what to know on Twitter. Another good one to locate people is to look through my list of people following me. That is a great way to find people to follow. You have to figure that the majority of people following me find hypnosis interesting in some type of way so it’s a good chance you’ll find some people to follow.

I use a service that is located off of Twitter to find people with similar interest and that site is listed below:

• Twellow.com – A search directory & yellow pages for Twitter

This is one of the best resources to locate people in my opinion. If you were interested in Hypnosis you would type the keyword hypnosis in and then it would send you back results for everyone on Twitter who has the word “hypnosis” in their profile or in their tweets. As I mentioned earlier you get to have a small profile where you can tell a little about yourself and a link to a website or two. So I may look at a few of the people the results shoot back and read some of their tweets. If I find them interesting then I’ll follow them. I tend to use twitter for both networking and business so I follow people in the hypnotism field so I can help spread word about my blog and also network with other like minded people. I kill two birds with one stone (I would never kill a bird in real life)

What Should I Say On Twitter?

Well, that is really up to you isn’t it? Think of Twitter as an online party with tons of different conversations going on. Some people are talking about their professions and some people are talking about their day or a new girl they met or whatever is going on in their life. Some people post links to interesting articles so it can be shared with others. Some people post information about their business. Some people promote their websites or services.  (hint, hint) It’s really up to you.

Me, I like to post about what’s new in my profession, my life, my business, projects I’m working on and a lot more. Sometimes if I run across a great article I’ll post it for everyone else to read. If I create a really good blog post or review I’ll post it to get more traffic. I try to provide VALUE to the people who follow me.  If I want to become more known in a certain niche or market then I use it to network. Since my goal is to spread the word about this blog I will use Twitter to drive people here to learn more about me, what I do, my services and etc. So see, if you’re a smart hypnotist you’ll find a way to use twitter to enhance your business or image. Once again, think of Twitter as a party and eventually when you get to know people well you can invite them to your home, which is your blog or website where they can learn even more about you.

The Proper Way To Use Twitter

Now, one of the quickest ways to lose followers or not gain any followers is to constantly talk about yourself or spam people with links that are all about you. Remember I said earlier that Twitter is a form of social media. Twitter is about people at the core and you need to learn to connect with people. While you may use Twitter for networking or business remember that at the end of the day it’s about connecting with other people who have similar interest or you find interesting.

Remember, I like to think of Twitter as a party. No one likes the person at the party who only talks about himself. The most popular person at most parties is the person who is involved with other people, smiling, having fun, cracking jokes, asking other people how things went and every once in a while talking about themselves. If I do offer a product or something for free like an mp3 or blog post I make sure it provide values. I also don’t keep posting it over and over so more people can see it. That will leave a bad taste in the mouths of others.  Just remember at the core of Twitter is people. I’m not saying you shouldn’t promote products, business or whatever, but just use common sense with how you put yourself out there.
