It’s nice to finally be back after a VERY long break. I’m sure some of you were wondering what happened to me. Well to make a long story short I was going through some personal issues with my family which required my attention. As much as I love blogging my family is the most important thing in the world to me and that will always come first. I do apologize to all my readers, but I hope you understand.

My life is still a little crazy at this point, but every day it’s getting better and better. I’m just taking things slow and day by day. In the meantime, I know many of you have been craving some articles so I reached out to my good friend and Persuasion Expert, Rintu Basu. I’m sure most of you know Rintu as he is the author of the popular The Persuasion Skills Black Book which I highly recommend if you haven’t read it. If you ever had an interest in Language Patterns, NLP or Influence and Persuasion I can’t think of a better book or teacher.

Well I’ve talked your ear off enough so let me hand you off to Rintu and please enjoy this article. If you enjoy this article please leave a comment below and let Rintu know.

—Josh

Leading People to Yes

As you sit there reading this article on Pacing and Leading Patterns you might have already noticed the hundreds of applications where you can use this to create fantastic results. In this article we will look at an extremely covert but very powerful hypnotic persuasion pattern. We will explore the benefits of using it, where it comes from and how you can use it to create some powerful results of your own.

Imagine a hypnotic language pattern that just takes your client from where they currently are and gently leads them to exactly where you want them to go in such a covert way that you only realise that you have got to your destination once you have arrived. How good an idea is that?

Now, some hypnotists see this as a great hypnosis tool to use with clients. Good hypnotists see this is a great tool to use both in and out of a therapy room. The best hypnotists have this so ingrained in their language that they can’t help themselves and are continually using these patterns to create compelling results.

Are You Sitting Comfortably?

As you read this article you might notice that I sometimes have a strange sentence structure. Sometimes this is because I write very colloquially from the UK, sometimes it is because I have an original approach to grammar and sometimes it is because I am delivering language patterns. I’ve already thrown a few at you, have you noticed?

You might have noticed several of the patterns the first time round and you may have caught a few more when you scan through again, certainly by the end of this article you will know how to use Pace and Lead Patterns to take anyone from where they are to where you want them to go. That would be the time to reread and notice the pattern.

Stepping Out of the Hypnotherapist’s Office

One pattern hypnotherapists use a lot, because it is extremely powerful is what I call a Pace and Lead Pattern. You may use them yourself. A typical phrase might be; “As you sit in the chair, with your eyes closed, you feel more relaxed.”

Notice how in that statement, assuming this is a hypnotherapy client situation, the first two statements, sitting in a chair with eyes closed are completely verifiably true and correct. The third statement cannot be externally verified by the hypnotherapist but the client is being led to making it true. The hypnotherapist makes two completely true statements and then suggests something that they would like to be true as if it is. This is what I call a Pace and Lead statement.

The reason this works so very powerfully is because you build rapport with statements that are true. Most people are socialised to like similarity and familiarity so by pointing these out it feels as if we are in agreement. The lead for the third part is the point where now there is a common bond you can take your subject to a new place. Obviously doing this in short steps and repeating the cycle is more covert than making one huge jump, but feel free to explore the differing effects of this pattern.

The structure of the pattern is simply making two completely true statements and then leading to a statement that you would like to be true. So now you have seen an example and discovered the foundation of the pattern you are ready to see some of the whole range of applications this has.

We Discussed Your Needs, Discovered All the Benefits and Can Now Move on to Discuss Payment

The best sales people are all hypnotists. A particular brand of pacing and leading patterns were translated into sales training and given the name of Yes Sets. Here the sales person would get the prospect by asking closed questions where the answer was yes. The sales person would then finish with the question they wanted a yes response for knowing that if the prospect has already answered yes several times they are likely to say yes again. Here is a typical sort of sale pitch as an example:

It was the green one you picked out wasn’t it?

Are you happy with my explanation of how to use it? (Obviously only if you know they already are.)

Do you want to pay the deposit now?

This is a simplistic example and having read it I expect you have got the idea of how you can expand the idea in different direction. Depending on the context you might just make statements; here is an example from a presenter to a group at the opening of a presentation:

You are sat in this room

Watching me speak about (X)

And that means you are ready to learn more about (X)

Or you might give your subject the illusion of choice by asking questions. For example here is a coach summarising a coaching session with a client:

We’ve sat and discussed your goals, are you happy with those goals?

Then we went through the next steps to accelerate your progress, can you see those steps clearly?

And finally we made sure you have the motivation and commitment to follow this through. Can you still imagine how great you will feel when you have achieved all of this?

Read, Understand and Apply Accelerated Learning and Hypnotic Language Patterns

Now that you have read this article and seen a few examples you will want to know how to apply this yourself. Let us discuss a process to allow you to integrate this pattern into your normal everyday language.

The first thing I would like you to do is scan through the article again and notice how many times I have cycled you through this pattern. You have probably caught me several times just as you were reading through but I bet I have slipped this pattern past you a couple more times than you were expecting. I think this is a good thing to do because it gives you more knowledge of the pattern, how it works and how easy it is to slip past people.

The next thing I would like you to do is start practicing this pattern in conversations where the outcome doesn’t matter. Many people have a problem remembering to use patterns when in the middle of a conversation. This is why I suggest you do things the other way round and start having conversations specifically to use patterns.

You can turn the whole thing into a game. I often, just for the practice go into a conversation just using pace and lead patterns. The idea is when it is your turn to speak you have to say two truisms before you make the point you want to make. For example if I am having a conversation and a friend asks me what I did last night I might respond with something like, “Sat in here talking to you about last night makes me think I should get out more all I did last night was watch TV. I’ve just admitted I need to get out more and told you all I did was watch TV so I guess you were doing something exciting. What were you doing last night?”

Notice how I cycled through pacing and leading statements twice, once to answer the question and once to ask the next question. You are possibly thinking that this this would be a stilted conversation, people might notice because it is a bit odd or that you might stumble over your words. The short answer is I completely agree and that is why you go out and practice with people that you are comfortable with and in conversations where the outcome doesn’t matter.

Here are a couple of other practice opportunities. Obviously the best way to get started is to have a study buddy so you can learn together. Another way might be just to pick people you are comfortable with, like a partner or family member and just practice with them. I know some coaches and therapists that will say to a client at the beginning or end of sessions that they are trying out a few language patterns and practice on them. But for me the best way to practice is to just deliberately go into a conversation with the express intention of continually using the pattern until they notice and scream at you to stop. In the NLP Techniques of my website you will find more articles about Hypnotic Language Patterns and how to practice them until you are completely proficient.

Finally once you are comfortable with making Pacing and Leading statements start practicing having a defined objective as the lead part of the statement. You will notice as you start to play with the concept that you will find yourself using this pattern more and more almost to the point where you are just doing it instinctively.

Okay, Now I’ve Seen It and Done It How do I Find Out More?

My name is Rintu Basu and I am the author of the internationally bestselling Persuasion Skills Black Book.
The Second Teleseminar Will Be June 9th at 7 PM – Read Below For Full Details

Over the last few weeks I’ve been working closely with my good friend and amazing Hypnotist, John Weir to help him promote his brand new Hypnosis Business Coaching Home Study Course. I usually don’t promote this hard, but it’s a product I truly believe in and think it could change the future of the hypnosis profession.

It’s more then a product I’m promoting for a friend. It’s a vision for the future. John and me both believe that we need more full time, successful hypnotists in our profession and this program is the key to opening that door.

Details To Join The Call Are Below..Keep Reading

Full Time Instead of Part Time

While our profession does have a number of successful, full time Hypnotists the majority are still part time or just doing it as an hobby. The biggest compliant is that they aren’t making enough money and the simple truth is there is no reason you shouldn’t be making a high 5 or 6 figure income. I honestly believe that it’s a lack of knowledge on how to get started and where to go.

Hypnosis trainers teach the latest techniques, but rarely teach you how to get people into your office so you can use those techniques. This is a huge problem and one John Weir along with his business partner, Bob Bicknell are trying to solve.

Since I’ve started to promote the Hypnosis Business Coaching Home Study Course I’ve gotten a lot of wonderful feedback. A lot of hypnotists have come aboard and have started to help me spread the word to everyone they know about this new program. It’s critically that Hypnotists understand that you have to wear two hats to be successful in the hypnosis business. You must wear the hat of the Hypnotist, but you must also wear the hat of marketer, entrepreneur & businessman/businesswomen.

Join John Weir and Myself For A One Hour Free Teleseminar

Since the start of this promotion I’ve been receiving a lot of questions about the program. So many that John and I have decided to put on a FREE Teleseminar to answer these questions, explain the vision, answer questions from YOU and just provide a lot of great value. We also want to use this a time for you to get to know John a little bit better. For the most part, most of my readers only know John from his many written guest post on this blog. This will allow you to interact with John on a different level and know him on the same level I know him.

He’s a great guy with a lot of passion and a desire to truly help our profession. Once you hear him speak you’ll see why I look up to John and believe so much in his vision.

Not Another Pitch Fest?

Now I’m sure some of you may be thinking this will be some pitch fest since most teleseminars are, but I can promise you that won’t be the case. We will talk about John’s Hypnosis Business Coaching Home Study Course, but we’ll also go into a lot more subjects as well such as how John got started, the top 3 things you can do to become successful, the importance of developing your business mind, how to make money in this profession and a lot more.

In addition, John and I will both be answering your questions live on the call. If you have anything you want to know about building/marketing your practice or business this would be the perfect time to ask. While we do want to really help you to understand what the program is all about we also want to provide you some amazing value that you can put to work in your business right away. So make sure you bring a pencil and a notepad cause we’ll going to be giving away a lot of great stuff.

How Long Will The Call Be?

We know that you have lives and other things going on so the call will only be about an hour long. It may go over a few minutes, but plan to be on the call for about an hour.

What If I Can’t Make The Call?

Obviously we want you to make the live call as the more people on the call the more fun in my opinion, but we know you may have important life events going on. If this is the case we are planning to record the call and release it later, but we can’t promise anything. The reason why is sometimes the system doesn’t record the calls or errors happen during the recording process. Were not saying it will and everything should be fine, but this is why we highly recommend you join us live if possible. This will also allow you to personally speak with John and me and ask us your questions.

An Hour Seems Short To Cover A Topic As Big As Marketing/Building Your Business?

An hour does goes by pretty fast so that’s why we are doing a small series of teleseminars for you. This is just the first one in a series of teleseminars John and I will be putting on for you. The first one will be sort of an introduction and following calls will go into even more details and provide even more value. John and I both want you to succeed and it’s not all about the money. This is why we are doing multiple calls because we want to share a lot of great information with you that you can put to work in your business. So please join us and help us make John’s vision for the future a reality.

There is more then enough business for all of us. We don’t have to be in competition with each other. You can build a successful practice/business that generates you five or six figures a year. It does take a little bit of work and a little bit of time, but isn’t your future worth it?

How Do I Join The Live Call?

Here are all the details you need to join the live call later this week!

Thursday, June 9th

7:00 PM Eastern Standard Time

Conference Dial-in Number: (605) 477-2100

Participant Access Code: 325325#

When you dial the number above you will be greeted with a set of instructions. Just follow the instructions given to you by the operator and you won’t have any problem getting on the call.

Seats Are Limited

If you are planning to join us for the live call I highly recommend you join us a few minutes early as there is a limit to the number of spots available on the call. John Weir is very well known in this profession and we will be promoting this event all over the web so seats will fill up fast for the event. So please, if you want to join us live you may want to arrive a few minutes early to make sure you get on the call.

Send Me Your Questions

As I mentioned above John and I will be answering your questions live on the call. In the event you are a little shy or can’t make the event you can still send us your questions through e-mail and we’ll do our best to answer them live on the call. So please send any questions you may have about marketing your business, promoting your business, building your business or whatever you want to ask in regards to marketing and business for Hypnotists. We will answer as many questions as possible.

Post Your Questions In The Comment Area Below. You don’t need to register or anything. Just enter the information required and submit your question to us.

Well I’ve got to run, but John and I look forward to having you on the call and helping you to make six figures or more this year with your hypnosis business.

Your friend,

Josh Houghton

Since I created this hypnosis blog a few years ago one of the most common request I get is to blog more about my life. I’ve always found this to be an interesting request as I would have thought people just want the latest hypnosis based article or review.

Oddly enough that just isn’t the case. I guess it makes sense as I’m the author of this blog and people want to know more about the man behind the keyboard. I’ve never been afraid to talk about my personal life as readers of my mailing list will tell you. I can get pretty personal when talking with people on my mailing list sometimes.

I’ve also have done some post of a more personal nature on my blog as well, but I’ve never done it with any real schedule. I would just write something when I felt the urge to write. So after receiving more emails this month and a few request from other places I’ve decided to do a monthly post, maybe two depending on my mood titled Inside My Mind.

These monthly posts will just be about whatever is on my mind at the time or something going on in my personal life or just some random thoughts. So the main difference will be that it won’t be written in a how to fashion or as a guide. It also may or may not be hypnosis related as well. I’m sure the people who wanted this type of post from me will love it and others who just like pure hypnosis won’t but you can’t please everyone can you?

So the next blog post will be the first edition of this monthly series. Now just because these post will be more of a personal nature doesn’t mean it won’t have some interesting information worth reading. As I said before it will be just whats going on, random thoughts and etc. So maybe I worked with an interesting client that week and decide to tell you how it went. I’m sure you’ll learn something from it. Maybe I learned a life lesson which you can apply in your life, maybe a read a cool book?

So you’ll never know what you’ll get with Inside My Mind. Maybe I’ll blog about my dog or something my wife said to me or an interesting place we went to eat. So you’ll just never know. Either way I think it will be fun and it will allow you to connect with me on a level most people rarely do.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this in the comment area below. I just want to say thank you to everyone who reads the blog. You truly mean a lot to me.

Talk soon
Josh

In part one of this article we covered inner game and target selection. We recommend you read that section first before you continue with the rest of this article.

Nightclubs, and noisy venues can be hard to gain the attention of anyone, when drunk men are bouncing around and causing a lot of hassle for pretty girls. How can we possibly gain the attention of a girl if we expect to hypnotize them or begin to seduce them?

The key to pick up and hypnosis alike, is about building responses which start off small within a person, and then develop them to a point where you can state “You can really feel that can’t you” in Head Hacking courses for a number of years we have referred to this as progressing a linear response and turning it binary.

Read the previous article if you want to know how to start compliance with unresponsive audiences in the competitive scenarios where more than a few hundred people are fighting for attention. The rest part two will continue to describe how to increase this compliance to a goal once you’ve gained interest, fascination, attention, a look, a stare, a smile, or something from a subject.

Let them watch you – Once you notice someone in the audience is paying you interest

With hypnotic subjects, I will have them stand around me for a little bit before I hypnotize them, I tend to watch when I speak who is listening to me, who is paying attention to me when I walk around a venue, then I assume they will be responsive to me, I believe that
their attention isn’t being competed for, or that my competitors for their attention are not as unique, or as useful to the watcher as I am for them, and therefore I have their interest.

In seduction it is said that if you are unique, for example dressed in an extravagant fashion then you have social proof when people in the venue watch you. And you have this massivesocial effect. When I went out and created this effect I would also receive much higher
results as a hypnotist, which lead me to develop this theoretic that I have been explaining this far.

Who said you can't hypnotize bunnies?

It’s really important that your audience ends up investing more energy and time into you than you appear to be investing into them. Sure you need to make them feel somewhat special and not put them down, or make them feel uncool but you need to be clear that you
are to be respected.

It’s important when you are progressing with a girl that you never tell them that you like them, that you never indicate that your wanting attraction with them. This cannot be communicated in either your body language or your words. In the Pickup community this is referred to as ‘indirect theory’.

As a general overview, indirect approaches are subtle, and very “under the radar” versus a direct approach. It gives the PUA flexibility to maneuver the pickup to befriending the girls if they seem not interested in a romantic relationship, or using the targets as social proof and pivots. It also allows for role reversals where the target can qualify herself to the PUA post-attraction as she does not know the PUA’s real intentions. (source:pualingo) while your indirect in your approach in the sense that you never directly convey interest,
while you continue progressing the eye contact, the touching as much as you can get away with without alerting her that she has to make a decision about whether she’s attracted to you.

Because the moment she has to make a decision she will bring up all of her frames and expectations about what kind of man she wants, about how she feels, about work and career and friends that you will likely fail on. She doesn’t know you she has no commitment towards you the moment you force her to make a decision as to whether she likes you, whether the decision was forced by subtext or explicitly stated, you’ve lost the girl.

When you follow Vince's advice this is the response you can get

The reason why building commitment while at the same time being indirect works in persuasion, is referred to as ‘foot in the door technique’. “It’s a compliance tactic that involves getting a person to agree to a large request by first setting them up by having that person agree to a modest request.[1][2][3] The foot-in-the-door technique succeeds due to a basic human reality that social scientists call “successive approximations”. Basically, the more a subject goes along with small requests or commitments, the more likely that subject is to continue in a desired direction of attitude or behavioral change and feel obligated to go along with larger requests” (Source: Wikipedia)

Give them a quick moment to watch you, the impression should always be in their mind that they are watching you way more than your watching them. Give them a moment to see you smile into the distance (never pout into the distance) then look at them a pout a little. (both these looks have evidence sourced from http://stats.OKcupid.com).

Girls are constantly making a decision about you, they want you until they don’t want you.Allow them to find all the reasons about you that they like you and they will only be able to see through that frame. But the moment you say or do something wrong then they will see you through the frame that your ugly, etc. According to the NLP encyclopaedia (nlpuniversitypress.com) the term ‘frame’ is used to refer to a general focus or direction that provides an overall guidance for thoughts and actions during an interaction. Frames
greatly influence the way specific experiences and events are interpreted and responded to.

In hypnosis the pretalk; that is the conversation you have before you hypnotize someone often causes how the experience is interpreted by the subject. It’s the same in seduction if you lead people to believe that you are respected, and attractive, then they’ll probably just go with those beliefs.

Find a shared moment

So a lot of the time an interaction happens, that is when you begin talking, or interacting with a stranger; someone you previously had no connection to, the reason for your ‘coming together’ was that something ‘situational’ occurred. It might be that you notice something
situational about the person you spot, “I think that outfit is great”, “your so happy”, something you state about yourself “I’m in such a good mood”, or something about the environment “Its great in here isn’t it?” it could be that the song in the background is progressing towards a peak.

When doing Street Hypnosis it's so important to stay relaxed and be confident

One of the things it can be is that you two seem to share various things in common, for example you might be dancing in the same manner, or matching each other’s vibe energy, for example moving in the same rhythm, smiling in the same manner. Commonality has been shown by scientists and economist theorists to be one of the main cause for partnerships, as it lowers costs experienced as an individual as you work together producing synergies as a team. Its just a moment where you suddenly acknowledge that your both not
separate identities, you both are together under some kind of shared context and you point this out.

In Head Hacking courses we typically make the recommendation for new ‘street hypnotists’ to use the CIQ model, which is compliment, introduction, question. When meeting someone, essentially here I’m putting the same idea forwards, but I feel I’m adding a bit of
depth into the way I see the approach from a pick up perspective. If you want to get really good as a hypnotist the most important skill you can learn is the actual approach of meeting strangers and giving them a positive perception of your character as a cool person.

Touch

An important aspect of pick up is escalation of touch, eye contact, proximity, isolation without making it seem false, forced, put on, formal, arranged, pre planned etc. it should feel spontaneous, accidental, automatic, passionate, electric, sparkle, natural, lustful. So to
do this we have various recommendations when meeting girls, Lightly touch her abdomen as if by accident. Hold her back as you pull her forwards so she talks into your hear so you can hear what she’s saying loudly. And Hold her back, accidentally touch her bum as you
lean into her ear, look her in the eye as you move across her face, sometimes be very close as if your lips could touch but only for a moment as you move across to do something else.

One of the biggest mistakes that pick up artists make, is that they check that a girl is interested on every step of escalation. For example they might touch a girls arm and wait for the girl to touch his arm before he progresses to touch her back. Or he might give her direct
eye contact, and wait until she looks at him and smiles or gives eye contact before he continues to touch her abdomen, a lot of times you won’t get such explicit signals from girls. Therefore it’s a much better tactic to continue escalating, but at a pace that seems to
naturally suit the flow of events, rather than any neediness you experience.

Let your imagination run wild with this picture

In Hypnosis, hypnotists often ruin their results by checking that the subject is ‘really hypnotized’ and if they experience any evidence that isn’t with their model of what they expect the subject to be doing then they assume the subject isn’t hypnotized. The classic example is where a subject laughs during hypnosis and the hypnotist suddenly thinks ‘your not hypnotized’ and decides to wake them up, other more complex examples might be when a hypnotist sticks a subjects feet to the floor then requests that the subject steps forwards (so the hypnotist can prove to himself that they are hypnotized) but the subject does step forwards (as a response to the suggestion) which then makes the hypnotist believe the subject was not hypnotized.

I always tell street hypnosis students, the clearer you can illustrate exactly what the subject should be doing; task related instructions then the better a hypnotist you’ll be. As pick up is a very goal-orientated sport, you should be delivering the clear message to your compliant subject that ‘you fancy me’ this should be conveyed in everything you do but never explicitly stated, the equivalent scenario in hypnosis would be saying “if you can wake up from this trance then you’re not hypnotized” say this and the subject will just open their eyes and say ‘I can’t be hypnotized’.

These mistakes are the majority of reasons that a hypnotist will loose a compliant subject after the subject has agreed to engage with the imaginative process. Explicit instructions for actions, without confusing the agreed events to occur by checking or asking for conflicting signals is important in preventing labeling compliant people as ‘resistant’.

Vince shares his years of knowledge with a group of students

Your So Close Don’t Kill It

Never go meta.in your conversations; is something I constantly tell students, what is meta? Meta is when you talk about the process of something, or comment on the macro-elements about something rather than refer to the process of experiencing it. With guys learning pick up, they tend to mention attraction to girls, or expect agreement from them to actually say ‘yeah I like you’.

You should never imply anything is other than ‘of the moment’ if something’s funny it’s because it’s funny, Its like when someone tells a joke and someone goes “that’s funny” that response sounds sarcastic because they are so detached from the actual experience of the
joke that they almost analyze it in the third person. By you doing this to people around you it teaches them how to detach and speak in the third person about experiences you try to create in their head.

You can say too much, the girls preconceptions, misconceptions about what she wants, who she wants to be, her past experiences might be brought up by the things you say. Sometimes its best just to focus on what she wants and going with the moment.

In martial arts, you use the other persons energy to make your moves have more strength, it’s the same in conversation, go with the flow, be like water.

Why get consent, when it’s clearly already on

Talking about sex, talking about attraction, when your going to meet up, go round each others houses, turns it into a business contract rather than an amazing something that just happened! It takes the energy out of it, it makes it cold, formal.

You don’t need to have her explicit consent about sex or attraction or her even liking you if you know you’re the bomb, why would you care anyway?! Read her signals use that as the tell tale signs that its on.

Kissing is a ideomotor yearning, how can you tell someone wants to kiss you, because when you move closer to them they move closer to you, a kiss should never be thought about or preplanned its just your coping each other so much that you just come together in a
moment.

Conclusion

Game is simple, you want it, she doesn’t want it until it happens. If you don’t want the result ‘to get with girls’ then either don’t play or find a way to make yourself want it (i.e. change your psychology using the steps mentioned above; it will help you get over ex, judging
people, worrying about your career etc.) . Once you’ve decided you want to play, then your job is to work them up until they experience the phenomena and then go binary and say “now your experiencing that right?” but until then, it’s about the building of linear
responses, you never can explicitly state it.

Vince taking a photo with Ross Jeffries during a break at their seminar

From linear “Tighten up that arm, make a fist, no consciously make that arm really tight, I’m telling you to make that arm tight”, to binary “and Now realize it’s tightened all by itself, like it’s just stuck out there” is similar to ‘touching touching, eye contact, talking into ear, brushing of faces” to “kissing” binary to “you’re really pretty” binary.

This article was intended to show various parallels between street hypnosis and pick up. Many of the techniques described here could be seen to be advanced. I would always argue that the majority of success with hypnosis comes down to set up, yet this is something that is never talked about in hypnosis training courses and books. What we’ve outlined should be considered a model for subject selection, with particular focus on the niche of picking up hot chicks in busy environments.

This is a guest post from my good friend Vince Lynch. Vince is a man of many talents. He’s a master hypnotist, trainer and an expert PUA (Pick Up Artist). Although in some circles he’s just known as an international man of mystery.

I was able to influence him (buy him a few drinks) to take a few minutes out of hypnotizing random strangers on the street with the Headhacking Crew (which Vince is a part of) and talk to us a little bit about his unique blending of Hypnosis, PUA, Influence & Persuasion.

In this post Vince breaks down his views on what Street Hypnosis can learn from the PUA community. Now I know for many of you this may seem like a very “out” there subject. I know some of you are interested in this subject from talks behind the scenes and I know some of you may not like the subject of PUA at all.

Either way, as Hypnotists we can all stand to learn a thing or two from Vince if we just keep an open mind. Whats On My Brain has always been about Hypnosis, in all it’s forms and pushing the boundaries of tradition. So pay attention because Vince has provided some really interesting insights and parallels between these two field. This is part 1 of a two part series and I promise you that by the time you read both of these post you’ll going to be a much better Hypnotist…and Street Hypnotist. Oh, and if your a guy who’s been looking to meet a beautiful women..you may even learn how to do that to in this post. – Josh –

—————————————————-

The pickup community, is a population of 20,000 plus men from estimates of those who participate in forums membership etc.

Seduction as a community really took off with progressions in telecommunications as the internet was developed and newsgroups sprang out. Ross Jeffries got hold of the newsgroup, seduction.alt which suddenly caused a rush of demand for trainings in how to get girls using the newly popularized NLP method developed by the guru.

Until 2005, Ross Jeffries had pretty much a tight grip on the community, other trainers existed sure, for example David De angelo. I didn’t become aware of pick up as a movement until 2006-7, although I was aware of Ross Jeffries when I first became a Hypnotist in 2002-3.

The main problem with pick up, is simple, girls in nightclubs don’t know who to pick to elope with. They have too many guys competing for their attention. So the solution from certain members of the PUA community is to isolate the target, which is to say to take them somewhere quiet and speak to them, historically using hypnotic language. Other members of the community argue that nightclubs aren’t worth it, and its better to meet people with more time, tourists, café’ goers, etc. who are more willing to pay attention to your ideas.

Vince Doing Street Hypnosis With Some Lovely Girls

This argument can help us understand why hypnotists tend to struggle to hypnotize a 100% of people. Because the results depend on the situation in which the target is selected. In street hypnosis, you request that someone’s time is allocated to you, to engage in a process using their imaginative capabilities, you also frame that it will be outside of their control. Providing someone follows these steps, then they will be hypnotized (I rarely use inductions, conversational has always been my thing). Although they might have a range of reasons for why their attention isn’t fully placed on these ideas, and misconceptions about what they think they should be trying to do with their mind, during the process. A hypnotist’s job is to teach them how.

So, great! Then how about we spend all day in café’s picking up girls! Newsflash; café’s have the occasional older woman, most of which aren’t single, and its not a particularly sexually hot atmosphere (unless you have some kind of weird fetish for coffee that is).

Whereas nightclubs, yes you guessed it, are full of tons of scantily clad hot young fit women, who are crammed into a dark room to grind against random strangers. Sexual harassment at its best! I’m surprised it doesn’t spark plenty of ‘if you don’t win, we don’t charge court cases’ but anyway. How in this noisy crammed competitive environment where gaining someone’s attention is so tricky can we be expected to hypnotize the most in demand girls.

People say; “Vince….Wouldn’t it be great if, someone could just point out a girl in the crowd and say ‘make her cluck like a chicken’ and you could” Under certain circumstances, people’s attention is competed for by so many other sources. They don’t know you and have friends, boys trying it on with them, etc.

For this reason, I’d like to talk about how to hypnotize hot girls in busy nightclubs. As I believe we can learn many lessons from it.

Who said Hypnotists Don't Get Girls?

People who know me think I hypnotize everyone I meet, this simply isn’t true, I work very hard to pick my subjects. If someone pointed out a subject and said hypnotize that person there… I would go through a specific procedure to defy the odds of you can only hypnotize 1 in 5 people rule. . I would always argue that the majority of success with hypnosis comes down to set up, the way you manage and select subjects yet this is something that is never talked about in hypnosis training courses and books.

Already from this article you can probably think of times you failed to hypnotize someone, and now realize in hindsight that you never properly set up an agreed relationship where they can pay attention to the ideas you present.

Inner game – is a topic that is heavily discussed in PUA, it dictates the attitudes that a seducer should have when he goes out into the field, its believed that attitude and state are the important in how the seducer acts, and how he is perceived by potential mates.

There’s various lessons we can learn from seduction and bring into our practice as hypnotists. One of which is the talk in pick up about Zen. What is Zen; it’s a mind-set and attitude usually associated with Buddhism, this attitude is referenced by many PUA instructors as what they believe is the central reason they get a lot of girls, the reason they often don’t write about it in textbooks is because it’s hard to explain what exactly the techniques, and attitudes associated with Zen are.

To quote the power of now Zen is when you “Just watch the thought, feel the emotion, observe the reaction” until you become aware of your own still, observing presence, “the silent watcher.”

I see Zen as a state of relaxation; you can be energetic in your experience of the moment. To quote another Zen philosopher, Andre Gide states “Seize from every moment its unique novelty and do not prepare your joys” or Blaise Pascal states “I have discovered that all of man’s unhappiness derives from only one source, not being able to sit quietly in a room”

Hollywood Isn't Ready For Vince Lynch

For me, my hypnosis I didn’t feel satisfied as a hypnotist till 2-3 years after hypnotizing thousands of people, mainly because I didn’t relax about it. I didn’t just trust my own judgements, I went out and I tried to push hypnosis onto people, I set unrealistic targets and expectations on myself.

In seduction Zen is frequently cited as a kind of relaxation; I recommend being energetic in your experience of the moment. Raw energy comes from the freedom of experiencing gestaltian thought cycles. If you cannot relax because you have concerns about your career, life, etc. I really suggest that you take up meditation, naps, yoga, breathing exercises, practice ‘not thinking’ and take up drinking and doing what you feel whenever you feel like it.

Never push onto the world, let them pull into you. I never hypnotize someone who isn’t ready for it, and therefore my results can be very high as I’m only selecting targets who I expect to succeed with because they are willing to pay attention to me, rather than going out and intentionally pushing hypnosis onto people like a dealer would push drugs, I wait for people to become captivated by me, fascinated by my presence and then have them engage in a process for a time being.

If you’re thinking about all of your limitations, all of the preconceptions, all of your judgements on your own life, about which girls are attractive, which ones aren’t, then you aren’t going to get girls to be non-discriminative towards you. You can have standards of what girl your aiming for, but don’t let your wishes and hopes about tomorrow hold you back today. You’ve got from now till forever to get that girl, let’s have some fun.

Get a lot of sleep. Be aware of what time you’re going to be most active and move your sleep patterns around to match it, catch sleep when and where you can. How can you expect to sleep with someone, if you don’t sleep? Surely that’s a contradiction of terms, you need to find the time within yourself to enjoy the moment with yourself and enjoy moments with others. If she doesn’t have the zen like relaxation and enjoyment of the moment, then she isn’t going to experience REM and be able to feel attraction before the close.

Vince is sharing his wealth of knowledge with his students at one of his seminars

The reason I refer to REM is because of studies into it, one way REM is actually identified to be occurring in a research laboratory is guys will experience spontaneous erections while they are going through the REM sleep cycle, girls experience lubrication. This is why you notice morning glory at various points in the morning, because you’ve woke up during an REM cycle as opposed to a Deep sleep. Therefore one of the aims of a seducer should be to ‘stay with’ a target rather than necessarily to ‘attract them’ because the moment you stay with a target they should experience the necessarily emotions that turn the lust into attraction.

Learn to love your own sleep, your resting time, and you can get to find those who also are willing to enjoy time to rest, and relax, and teach those that don’t know how to relax, how to copy you and become more in tune with their deeper hormonal instincts.

Target selection.

“Wouldn’t it be great if a girl could just be pointed out, and she would instantly fancy you” Is something that I hear myself say, and others say all the time. The truth is, by saying that it makes it sound as if it’s really tricky to do that, as if the secret method to do that hasn’t been uncovered yet.

Newsflash; if a girl isn’t going out with someone, there’s no reason other than her preconceptions about what she wants from a guy, or about how much time she has that could get in the way. If she feels all the bodily feelings, and situational factors that makes her believe that she should get with you, then she has no reason not to. Providing you frame the experience so she only sees all the reasons why it’s going to happen, why it’s on, and doesn’t bring up the frames as to why it’s not going to happen, then she’ll get with you.

I wonder how many girls actually took this bet?

However the truth is, in noisy venues with close to a thousand people or more in a tight dark space (which still clearly due to the vast numbers and context are still the best place to pick up girls) girls don’t have the time to pick from all of the 40 guys who have tried it on with them this evening. So they just cold blank refuse them all. Except for a handful of girls who are on it that particular evening, so until further down in this explanation we are going to explicitly discuss how to target those girls your likely to succeed quickly on.

When I first became a hypnotist I wouldn’t have any process for deciding who I went to hypnotize, therefore I would choose subjects who were clearly not wanting to spend their time listening to me, and were just being forced into engaging in this hypnosis procedure with me, then I would beat myself up mentally when I failed to hypnotize that person. This mind-set does not exist in this pua-hypnosis approach that I’m outlining.

A reason why women and men are often completely unresponsive to sexual attempts is that they don’t have those ideas, that mind-set ready. It often takes an unresponsive girl from 30 minutes, to 5 hours to heat up to sexual ideas.

One reason that certain girls and guys automatically have sexual ideas present is there for various hormonal, cardio-vascular, and nervous system reasons. Which as specified can be overcome through relaxation, focus on the moment, and by staying together. However girls in nightclubs who can be spotted to be immediately on are the ones with High Testosterone levels at that moment in time.

Testosterone levels in women in men fluctuate over the week, (testosterone levels are highly linked to sexual libido, as well as blood dilation; promoted by a healthy diet of fish, vegetables, fruit and lack of meaty, fatty foods, vegetarians have been shown to experience stronger orgasms etc. although slightly chubby girls have stronger sexual libidos as a rule compared with skinnier girls) the simple fact is, they are not ready for you to progress onto sexual ideas without you placing the ideas into their heads through an often lengthy, hypnotic-compliance building procedure that we will later describe.

Who said a little bit of self promotion is bad? Not Vince...

When people aren’t in this sexualized state, they will naturally discriminate against any sexual attempt, as the guy/girl isn’t interested in engaging in that process with you as they are preoccupied with another goal in their mind. Just as sometimes men discriminate about what is their type, whether they really want the girl and bring all their preconceptions about what they want sometimes, and then overtimes they have no discrimination’s, they are just Horney, full of life, and want to stick it in something. Girls are the same, sometimes they care about types, other times they just want to have something put inside of them and feel used.

That’s not to say that you can’t close girls who aren’t in the ‘in the moment’ state and then make her feel attracted, of course you could but you will have to do all of the kino escalation, comfort building steps before a close will feel genuine and sincere, because it comes from the spontaneity of the moment.

There are only a handful of girls in a given club who are actually genuinely dancing, genuinely feeling the moment, who are up on life. Unless you’ve got an opportunity to take the girls who are ‘cold’ the ones who have only come out because their friends are out, the ones who still have oneititus from their last boyfriend, or from the guy that they half know, or they simply don’t feel genuine because of work, career, worries, money. Sure given the opportunity for them to place their attention on you, and you talk to them you can change this, but in a highly competitive environment you simply can’t bank on that until you isolate them.

Know what you’re up against, read the venue, that way you can’t blame yourself when you don’t pick up any girls. Look around and spot the ‘hot energies’ and the ‘cold energies’ both in guys and girls, be aware that a hot energy might quickly meet a guy, or have just been with a guy and for that reason she might decline you because she is locked into his monopoly. (A girl isn’t really ever declining, she’s just doing something else)

To bring this back to hypnotism, I will often once I gain someone’s attention I might take them outside to an isolated area to perform the hypnosis, this way I can be sure that they have committed to the process in the sense that they have left their friends and gone for a walk with me. And I can check visually if they appear to be listening to what I am saying.

Vince and his friend Derren Brown...this isn't a mindtrick either!

In seduction a lot of the game is considered ‘won’ the moment that you do this exact move, the moment you have took the girl to an isolated area and begun escalating it usually quickly leads to a kiss close or more providing you bounce to a location where further intimacy is possible.

This is the end of part 1 of this 2 part article series; here we have discussed what to do up to the point that you have a subject isolated, in the sense that they have explicitly agreed to spend a moment paying attention to what you have to say. Part 2 will describe how to take this initial portion of interest gained, and progress it into further compliance and responsiveness.

It’s been a very long week and I’m looking forward to a relaxing weekend. I’ve been a little under the weather, but finally starting to get my strength back. So I thought I would take a stab at writing a new blog post so you all have something to read over the weekend.

In the spirit of the upcoming weekend which means a fresh start for us on Monday I decided I wanted to try something new and interesting here on this hypnosis blog. I thought it might be cool to start doing a series on the history of hypnosis. Now I don’t know how many of these post I’ll do so I guess that just depends on the feedback I get from all of you. So the first post in our series on the History of Hypnosis will be about Franz Anton Mesmer.

NOTE: The article below is not meant to teach or tell the entire history of Franz Anton Mesmer, but instead serve as a general history of the life of Franz Anton Mesmer

———————————————————————————-

The name Mesmer might just mean something to you if you’ve been learning about hypnosis. And even if it doesn’t, you’ll probably have used his name at some point without realizing it; we describe people as “mesmerized” when they are totally absorbed in one thing, captivated by it and oblivious to everything else. So who was Mesmer and what did he have to do with hypnosis?

Franz Anton Mesmer – Who Was He?

Until I started looking into hypnosis seriously, I always thought of Mesmer as a rather flamboyant Victorian figure – but in fact he was around much, much earlier, and because of this, I suppose he could be forgiven for some of his idiosyncrasies – you’ll see what I’m talking about shortly! Let’s just say he did his bit to give hypnotism the reputation of having occult overtones and “charlatan” image that we still have to battle against today! So let’s take a quick look at this rather strange but fascinating character, who was perhaps his own worst enemy…

Mesmer was born in 1734 in Germany. He was a good scholar, studying theology and law before taking up medicine at the University of Vienna. Mesmer found himself fascinated by the work and thoughts of Sir Isaac Newton, and he wrote a thesis, inspired by Newton’s theories, suggesting the gravitational pull of the moon and the planets might affect the human body.

He came to believe there was a kind of invisible fluid that ran through space and matter, and that this fluid, or “ether” could be pulled by the gravitational force of the different astronomical bodies. This idea was disparaged by many in later years, yet it’s uncannily close to recent scientific theories about dark matter and string theory, so maybe he wasn’t so crazy after all! At the time, his theories were seen as quite plausible, and worthy of discussion in higher scientific circles.

At the age of 34 he found himself a wealthy widow for a wife. She was 10 years his senior and they set themselves up in grand style, living on a huge estate and enjoying many cultural pursuits. He seemed set for life.

The Start of Animal Magnetism

When he witnessed a Jesuit professor placing a powerful magnet on a woman suffering severe stomach cramps, and saw the cramps quickly fade, he was even more convinced that a gravitational or magnetic pull had a profound effect on human health. He began to use magnets in his own medical practice, convinced they were pushing and pulling the “ether” around the body. Being a bit of a megalomaniac, he would go through theatrical rituals, passing the magnets over and around the patients in melodramatic procedures… Who knows whether he thought these over the top measures were necessary, or whether he realized they made the patients more ready to believe that he was somehow, rather magically “curing” them. Either way, he soon made quite a name for himself.

On one occasion when he bled a patient with leeches (don’t forget, we’re talking about almost 250 years ago – it was normal to bleed almost every patient in this way, for virtually any complaint!) – he noticed that the blood flow increased when he moved close to the patient and slowed when he move away. This convinced Mesmer that he himself was affecting the “tides” in the patient’s body. He believed he was acting as a magnet, and coined the phrase “Animal Magnetism”. He believed everyone had this Animal Magnetism, and that ailments were caused by a patient’s animal magnetism becoming depleted. He dispensed with the use of actual magnets, believing it was the physician who could bring about healing by transmitting their own, abundant animal magnetism to the patient.

How Fame Can Go To Our Heads

He was clearly a charismatic character, and produced a large number of remarkable “cures”. He did have rather a love of the dramatic, and became quite a celebrity, taking his “show” on the road, touring the royal courts of Europe and giving dramatic demonstrations of his “powers”. He loved to dress in deep purple robes, and wave his hands around theatrically, staring deeply into the patient’s eyes and speaking in deep, sonorous tones.

His showmanship and celebrity made him less than popular in medical circles, so Vienna’s medical elite were more than happy to jump at the chance of discrediting him when one particular case went wrong. Ironically, it was initially a rather successful case. A young, blind concert pianist came to him for treatment, hoping to be cured of her psychosomatic blindness. And indeed, she regained her vision under Mesmer’s treatment. However her parents were outraged on two counts.

One, their daughter’s piano playing seemed to deteriorate when she was able to see. And secondly, they received a kind of allowance, a royal pension, which would cease if the girl regained her sight. So they forcibly removed her from Mesmer’s house and insisted that the treatment was stopped. They also allowed rumors to circulate that he may have had an “inappropriate relationship” with the girl, which seems unlikely. Her blindness returned, her piano playing improved, and their quality of life was safe!

The End Of Franz Anton Mesmer…Sort Of

Mesmer took himself off to Paris, somewhat in disgrace, but continued to practice, and continued to court controversy. The scientific and medical establishment may have been right to accuse him of being unable to prove his theories, but they completely missed what was happening. After all, there’s little doubt that he was genuinely successful in a great many cases. What they failed to recognize, partly due to Mesmer’s egotistical and over elaborate rituals, was that he was using psychological techniques, trance induction and hypnotic suggestion, which would later be developed by doctors like James Braid and James Esdaile into what we now understand as hypnosis.

So, we hypnotists today have a lot to both thank and curse Mesmer for. But there’s no getting away from the fact that he makes an interesting interlude in the history of hypnotism!

My Thoughts On 2010

I just want to issue a small warning to all my readers. This is a very personal post for me and I do get a little emotional. So if you don’t want to take a look inside my soul or read a bad word or two please don’t read this post. In the spirit of change and the new year I’ve decided to bear my thoughts to all of my readers. In other words….time for me to get some stuff off my chest.

Before I begin bearing my deepest thoughts to you I want to wish all of my readers and subscribers a Happy New Year. I hope all of you had an amazing time last night. I’m sure some of you got into a little bit of trouble and I’m sure some of you can’t even remember what happened last night.

New Years Eve, Alcohol, The “F” Word and Memory Lane

What did your favorite online Hypnotist get into last night? Honestly, I didn’t do too much really. I just hung out with my lovely wife, went out to eat, spent some time with friends, cussed two people out who were acting like fools and maybe…just maybe got a little drunk. I don’t want all of you to think I’m some type of alcoholic because that couldn’t be further from the truth. I rarely drink and when I do its mostly in social situations.

Well, after waking up and suffering from a hang over for most of the day (my own fault obviously) I started to think back to 2010. Every year I always make sure to take about an hour or two out of my day and take a stroll down memory lane. I like to take a look back at everything that happened during the previous year. I know some people only want to look forward and never look back, but I’m a firm believer in learning from the past so you can make corrections in the present which allow you to create the future you desire.

Okay…maybe I stole that from a personal development book. I’m not sure as I still have a slight hangover.

The Good And The Bad

One of the first things I noticed when looking back on 2010 was that I had a lot of great things happen to me. Things I never thought that could happen to me did which I’m truly grateful for, but in addition to those good things I also had a pretty decent amount of bad things happen to me as well. Some of them you may already know if you’re an subscriber on my newsletter.

Out of all the bad things that happened this past year the worst had to be seeing my brother go from being perfectly fine and happy to being committed in a mental hospital. Out of nowhere he started to see and hear things, suffer from rage and other issues. He just got married and had a new baby and out of nowhere his whole life was turned upside down including mine and the rest of our family.

This affected me pretty deeply as I thought what if I’m next? What if this mental disorder is genetic? What if I woke up tomorrow and didn’t know the different between reality and illusion?

It’s been rough, but I’m happy to announce that things are better for him. The right treatment and medication is helping, but it’s still a long road to travel. Still, at the end of the day I have to thank God for allowing me to have the good and the bad. I know that may seem like a strange thing to say, but without the good and the bad I wouldn’t be exactly where I am today. I love my life and wouldn’t change a thing as the good things that happened in 2010 made me truly appreciate my life and the bad things just helped to make me stronger. Sometimes we don’t know our limits until we test those limits and I would like to think I’m a stronger and better person because of the pain I’ve been through.

The Evolution Of This Hypnosis Blog

During my personal reflection I thought a lot about this Hypnosis Blog. How it started, where it is and where it’s going. Whatsonmybrain.com has come a really long way since I started it all these years ago and things are still moving at an amazing rate. One of the biggest honors this blog has received has been becoming the number 1 hypnosis blog on the internet according to Google…

Beside the blog growing in popularity it has also come a long way in terms of content. For a long time a good majority of the content was provided by guest writers. Many of my good friends and fellow Hypnotists helped me to grow this blog, but 2010 saw a huge shift in regards to guest post. I started to produce more content myself and move away from numerous guest post which many of you seem to enjoy. In addition 2010 has also brought the most blog post I’ve ever done in a year to this blog!

2010 brought free contest, giveaways, more how to tips and techniques. 2010 also brought a brand new design to Whatsonmybrain which was very much needed. One of the coolest things that has happened in 2010 was I finally started to see a pretty good profit from this Hypnosis blog. While making a profit has never been my goal with this blog it’s nice to make money doing something you love…especially when you put so much time, energy and money into something. The profit from this blog has actually helped me to pay for some of my brothers treatment and help my wife with some of her medical bills. Once again, I couldn’t have done this without my loyal readers.

A lot of great things happened in 2010, but during my reflection and re-reading some of my old post I noticed my blog now seems to be article after article about Hypnosis. The personality which I used to put in all my blog post seems to have vanished for for one reason or another. I used to put a lot of my own soul into each post, but I feel as if most of my post in 2010 were lacking that personality that made it “unique” to me. Some of you may like the technical style of writing, but it takes away from the essence of this blog and it’s something I plan to change in 2011.

It’s Time To Release And Get Some Stuff Off My Chest

Anytime you reflect back on an entire year you’re bound to also run across things that really pissed you off or things you really need to change to make yourself better. So be warned as the following is just a few of the things I need to get off of my chest so I can have a fresh start for 2011. Do me a favor and in the comment area below post something that really upset you in 2010 that you want to change for 2011. WE ALL NEED A FRESH START!

People Who Leave Negative Comments:

One of the biggest problems for me is that I let certain people get under my skin at times. You might not know this, but this blog does get negative comments once in a while. While the amount is quite small it really upsets me when I receive a negative comment. I know I can’t please everyone and it would be crazy for me to think I could, but that’s just the type of person I am. I care so much for other people and what I do with this blog that I just beat myself up wondering what I could have done differently.

This has been a BIG issue for me and something I know I have to tackle head on. So in the spirit of change for 2011 I’ve now made a personal decision to not let this bother me anymore! If you don’t like what I have to say then leave. I’m not holding a gun to anyone’s head. I have so much positive energy to give to this world and I can’t afford to waste it thinking and dealing with people who only exist to bring me down. If you don’t like what I have to say then feel free to go and pay for the information which I provide for free to my readers.

People Who Leave My Newsletter Because I Recommend A Product

When you join my list you become a member of my extended family. I provide a ton of information for free that you would have to pay for otherwise. I really open and expose myself on a deep level to those on my newsletter and I honestly do my best to provide a lot of value. Now some of you may not know this but this blog does cost me a lot of money to keep running. I have domain, server, auto-responder and technical support cost. This can add up quite quickly. So to offset these expenses once in a while I may send an e-mail to my newsletter where I recommend a product to them. If someone buys that product through my link I get a small commission which goes to help me offset some of the cost of this site. If you are on my newsletter you know I usually just add it within a value based e-mail as I don’t like doing a lot of e-mails that are only promotional.

Either way, For the amount of high quality content I provide to my subscribes I feel this is a very small price to pay. No, not the product, but to receive an e-mail of that natural once in a while. I have very high standards and I never will and never have promoted any product that I haven’t believed in or used and never will. I do my best to provide value and I also make sure to only recommend products I feel can benefit you as a Hypnotist.

Well, once in a blue moon I will get people who unsubscribe from my list because they receive one of these e-mails. They receive tons of great content and happy and then leave because they receive a promotional e-mail once in a while. This really used to upset me because I value every single one of my subscribers and I hate to see someone unsubscribe. Deep inside I would question if what I was doing was right or if I should send a promotional e-mail out once in a while because I just hated to lose a subscriber. Once again, that’s just the type of person I am, but after doing some serious reflecting I’ve come to the conclusion that I can’t let someone unsubscribing from my list bother me anymore.

Here’s the deal. I work really, really hard at providing quality content on my newsletter. I do my best to make sure you guys get access to information that I had to actually pay for to receive. I also spend a lot of personal time, energy and money to provide all of this information to you so sending out a promotional e-mail once in a while that actually helps me to keep the site running and contains a quality recommendation from someone who has been where you are and can guide you down the right path as an Hypnotist is a small price to pay I think. So if you are one of those people who has a problem with receiving a promotional e-mail from me once in a while then you may want to leave my newsletter. Obviously I still respect you and want to help you if you need something so let us just part as friends. Member of newsletter or not you’re still a reader and I want to provide massive value to you.

WOW! That felt really good to get off my chest. I’ve been holding a lot of that in for a while now. Please don’t take this the wrong way if you are regular reader or a member of my newsletter. For the most part, people are wonderful and my readers are the best in the world, but once in a while things get to me. If we let these things built up for too long they can cause us physical and mental harm so it’s always good to learn to let stuff go and make a change for helps to better you in the long run. I respect and love each one of you so please understand the natural of this post isn’t to put anyone down, but to just release stuff that makes me sad and upsets me from time to time.

2011 Is Going To Bring Some Great & Unexpected Things

So what can you expect from me in the 2011? Well, I’m going to branching out into things I never thought I would do and things that may make me a little bit uncomfortable. You’ll going to see Youtube videos from me this year as well as a host of interviews. If you know me personally then you know I don’t really like giving interviews or speaking on video. I don’t have a fear of it or anything I just don’t think I’m very good at those two things. The thought running through my mind is what do I have to say that is different from someone else?

This really held me back in many different areas of my life. Even though I have a lot of Hypnotist who look up to me, students, readers and yes…even some fans lol I’ve always thought what’s special about me? I have a blog that does well, but whatever and that doesn’t mean I have anything special to add…at least that’s what I thought for the longest time.

It wasn’t until I spoke with a good friend (you know who you are) who helped me to understand that being me, just me is unique in it’s own right. If I didn’t have something to say then this blog wouldn’t be so popular. I never confessed to being the best Hypnotist or even the most knowledgeable Hypnotist because I’m not, but what I am is Josh. I am me and no one can do that better then me. Does this mean my Youtube videos and interviews are going to be good at first…NOPE! They will probably suck a lot in the beginning, but I will get better and I will continue to grow.

As long as I believe in myself and my readers have my back I know I can achieve a lot of great things. Sometimes it just takes a swift kick in the butt to get us out of our comfortable zone so 2011 will be that kick in the ass.

Let’s Kick Off 2011

Well, I really just wanted to write this post to get some things off my chest and serve as a written record of things which have come and will come in 2011.Another year has arrived and that means a fresh start for most people. Over the years people have always seen the start of a new year as a time for change, a time for new beginners, a time for rebirth. I think this is awesome, but I pose this question to you and myself.

Why do we all keep waiting for next year? Isn’t each day a fresh start. Isn’t each day a chance to start over? If so, then I make this suggestion to you and I that we live each day as it’s a new day. Don’t wait a whole year to make a change, but in the end we don’t truly know how much time we have. The only one that knows that is God. So seize the moment and let’s make tomorrow as well as 2011 the best year ever.

Josh

P.S.

From the bottom of my heart I do love all of my readers. You’ve been with me since the beginner and helped me through some bad times and laughed with me during the good times. You all hold a special place in my heart. So in the spirit of change and since I confessed some of the things I’m going to be changing for 2011 I want to hear from you.

I want to know what you plan on changing today or this year. In the comment area below please let me know what you want to change for 2011, what are your goals, plans or just what pissed you off in 2010.

My Final Post On Deepeners

Here we are, at the final part of this mini-series about deepeners. By the time you’ve finished reading this part, assuming you’ve looked at the first three articles in the series, you’ll have a nice, reliable bank of 10 methods for deepening the level of trance that your hypnosis clients experience.

Deepeners Part 1

Deepeners Part 2

Deepeners Part 3

Deepener 9 – Limb phenomena

Here’s one which, as you gain in confidence, you can develop and take to different levels. It’s helpful for clients who want to be certain that they really have been hypnotized. It involves making the limb (usually the arm) feel very light and rise up in the air, then returning the normal feeling of weight to it so that it lowers back to rest on the arm of the chair, or into the subject’s lap, with an accompanying feeling of deep relaxation. Having induced a certain level of trance, you might say something like:

I’d like you to focus your attention on your right arm now. Feel how relaxed it is. Notice the sensation of the leather beneath your palm (or whatever appropriate description would match the subject’s experience) and let your whole arm relax even more, resting more heavily against the arm of the chair. More and more relaxed… so relaxed that it almost feels as though it’s quite detached from you…

And now imagine that arm becoming lighter and lighter… until there’s hardly any sensation of weight in that arm at all… so light… feeling weightless… light as a feather… so that if you let it go, it can begin to float upwards, almost as though it is attached to a balloon, that effortlessly lifts your arm up into the air, lighter and lighter… imagine there’s a string round your wrist attached to that balloon, gradually lifting your arm up so that it can float gently, higher and higher… that’s right… (even if the subject’s arm hasn’t moved yet, they will be experiencing a feeling of lightness in the limb… you may have to repeat the suggestions of lightness a few times more, or even lift the arm a fraction, saying “see how light it is and easy for me to lift,” just to start the motion upwards, but in most cases this will happen quite readily)

Having induced the feeling of lightness and the raising of the arm, you can simply talk the weight gradually back into the arm, and suggest that it gently lowers back down as it returns to normal. Please remember to return the limb to “normal”. If your client walks out at the end of the session looking lop-sided, you’ll know you forgot!

As the feeling of weight returns to the arm, you can say how, as it lowers, your client is falling deeper and deeper into trance or relaxation, becoming deeply, deeply relaxed and enjoying that pleasant sensation.

This can be taken further by inducing a rigid arm, suggesting the arm is stuck to the chair, and/or complete arm catalepsy (total inability to move any part of it)… just be certain to return the limb to normal when you’re done!

Deepener 10 – Feedback Technique

I’ve included this one because, although there’s nothing exciting or dramatic about it, it’s an excellent one to have up your sleeve for clients who are nervous and/or have difficulty going deeper than a superficial level of trance.

If someone seems to only enter a very light trance, the feedback technique simply involves asking them to describe in detail the sensations they felt when going into that light trance. This can be quite different for each individual. By carefully noting what the client was feeling and in what order, you can take them back into trance, describing what they are going to feel, in the same order as before. It seems there’s no resistance to these suggestions because they reflect what the client has already experienced and expects to experience again.

This confirmation of the client’s experience helps them to go deeper into trance each time, as they recognize what you are telling them, and therefore accept that they must be going into trance. You can repeat the procedure of waking them, discussing anything new about their experience this time, and then inducing trance again, utilizing the new information. Each time, the level of trance achieved should be noticeably deeper.

Deepeners Part 4 Conclusion

Throughout these articles I’ve tried to give a fairly detailed idea of how the deepeners work and examples of the wording you might use. But in this final installment I want to emphasize the importance of getting to know the nature and flow of a technique, then using words and phrases that are natural to you.

When I first started to learn this hypnosis stuff, I would sit with my “clients” (thankfully just my fellow students!) and read, word for word, the scripts we were given by the college. Although they were excellent, reliable scripts, some of the language just didn’t sit naturally with me. As a result, although they worked reasonably well, I couldn’t get into that “flow” which is part of the magic of being a hypnotist. And because the words weren’t natural to me I would stumble and hesitate at times. My very compliant fellow students were extremely tolerant (we were all in the same boat, and they were just as bad!) but I’m glad they were not paying clients!

As my confidence grew I began to follow the general structure of the scripts, but in my own words. Just this simple action led to my subjects experiencing a much deeper level of trance. I would go so far as to say that for novice and student hypnotists, this shift to using your own, natural language is a deepener in itself! So I urge you to make these techniques your own, and have fun with them – responsibly of course!

I hope you enjoyed this series on Deepeners and took something away from it, even if it was just a small nugget of information. If you really want to learn a lot more about deepeners then I recommend you check out my friend Sean Michael Andrews DVD program called Deepening The Trance. It’s excellent program that really takes you further into the world of deepeners and other techniques to really make sure you’re able to get a really great level of trance within your client.

7 Popular Myths Panic Attack Myths

The following a guest post from my friend Mark Tyrrell who is a therapist, author and trainer, and co-founder of HypnosisDownloads.com which is one of the most popular hypnosis websites in the world.

As we all know Hypnosis can work wonders with people who suffer from Panic Attacks. I actually had a problem with Panic Attacks for years until I got helped by a Hypnotist. Ever since then I’ve never had a problem again. Panic Attacks are a common problem Hypnotists work with and so it’s important to understand what they are, how they work and how to separate the truth from myth.

So in this post Mark shares with us 7 popular myths about Panic Attacks which will be helpful for you to know in case you ever do work with a client who suffers from Panic Attacks.

—————————————————————————————————————————————–

“I didn’t even know it was a panic attack! I thought I was going to die, I felt like I couldn’t breathe, and I was sweating even though it was a cold day. And as for my heart, I thought it was going to explode through my chest. I have never been so terrified. In the end I felt humiliated!”

I’ve heard these words or a variation on them many times from the thousands of people who have spoken to me about their panic attacks. So one of the first things to do when treating someone for panic attacks is to reassure them as to what panic attacks are and what they are not.

Here are the top seven myths about panic attacks (which will also serve as major reframe “reassurers”:

Myth 1: “I’m afraid I might die during a panic attack!”

Especially during the first panic attack when they don’t necessarily know what’s happening, people fear that they are going to die, because it all feels so dramatic. I remember when I was a kid seeing a washing machine juddering up and down on full spin. My mother reassured me that this was a natural part of the machine’s cycle. It looks dramatic, even scary, to a young child, but washing machines are designed to do this.

When the body is in “panic mode”, it’s doing what it is supposed to do (just at the wrong time). If a person were ill enough to die due to a panic attack, they would have been ill enough to die at any time of the day or night, regardless of how tense or relaxed they were. We are all “designed” to be able to panic.

Myth 2: Having panic attacks is a sign of “going crazy”

Many people fear they are going crazy during a panic attack or that this might happen. Someone experiencing genuine psychosis (hearing or seeing things that are not there and believing in them) might have panic attacks in addition to their psychotic illness, but fearing that having panic attacks is a sign of psychosis because some psychotic people may experience them is like worrying that because some psychotics wear shoes, wearing shoes is a sign of “going crazy”. Panic attacks are not a sign of going “mad”; they are a sign that background stress levels are temporarily too high in a person’s life and that one more stressor has set off the alarm reaction, triggering the fight or flight response.

Myth 3: You can totally lose control during a panic attack

Panic attacks can come on fast. In fact, they are meant to come on fast; imagine if it took half an hour to summon up the energy to flee from a falling tree! It sometimes feels as if the subconscious mind has taken your conscious mind by surprise. And it’s this that gives people the feeling of being out of control.

It certainly can feel hard to “think straight” during a panic attack (because during an emergency, thought needs to be as simple as possible: “run or fight”), but people don’t totally lose control as is so often feared. One woman I worked with told me how, before leaving her car in a traffic jam during a panic attack, she searched for and found her cell phone, checked she had her purse, and remembered to lock the car – all whilst in the height of panic. The “thinking brain” doesn’t disappear during panic, which is why people don’t do “crazy things” like jump through glass windows. You still have your rationality.

Myth 4: Panic attacks are caused by a “chemical imbalance”

There is nothing abnormal about having a panic attack, any more than a car alarm is abnormal if it goes off. But some people believe (and perhaps it’s in drug companies’ interests to strengthen this myth) that panic attacks are caused by “faulty genes or brain chemicals”. There is no evidence for this. Certainly some people may be naturally more anxious than others, but we evolved to panic. Which is why the human race is still here; we’ve had to be very good at running away in the past.

Myth 5: During a panic attack it’s hard to get enough air

The symptoms of panic aren’t really “symptoms” at all, but rather characteristics of exercise. During panic, your body has the wrong message that it needs to do some heavy exercise; so it makes you breathe fast, speeds your heart rate, produces sweat, and sends blood away from digestion and into the legs and arms for running or fighting. All these “symptoms” would feel perfectly natural if running in the gym, but not when we’re sitting on a bus; of course breathing as if we’re exercising hard when we’re not is going to feel pretty weird.

People often fear “running out of air” because breathing so fast (hyperventilating) can make you feel breathless. But during hyperventilation, too much oxygen is breathed in, decreasing the carbon dioxide concentration in the blood, which in turn can produce numbness, tingling, chest pains, and dizziness if continued. None of this is dangerous, but it feels dramatic.

So gulping down too much air can make us feel breathless. A simple way to stop hyperventilation in its tracks is to hold your breath for the count of 10. This “resets” your breathing and normalizes carbon dioxide levels again.

Myth 6: It’s always obvious to other people

Well, it might be, but it might not be. In fact, oftentimes other people just don’t notice. I recall having a horrendous panic attack (yes, I’ve been there, along with one in four of the population) in a crowded environment years ago. I felt sure people around me must have noticed. Surely; how could they not? But my colleague – someone I was right next to during this event – expressed amazement when I later confided what I’d experienced. The fact is, people are unobservant and much more concerned with what they imagine people might be noticing about them.

Myth 7: Panic attacks are hard to stop once they’ve started

It’s a common worry that all you can do during a panic attack is “wait for it to blow over”. Actually, your body doesn’t want to waste all that energy and if it gets one hint that it doesn’t need to, it will switch off nature’s alarm system. This is why behaving “normally” during a panic attack, perhaps by continuing to talk to people or even forcing yourself to smile, sends the signal to your subconscious mind that it doesn’t need to panic.

When we panic, we breathe in but don’t spend much time breathing out (just as when running). Breathing in arouses us and makes us alert; whereas the opposite, breathing out, happens when we relax. So purposefully breathing out slowly and longer than your in-breath will make it impossible to continue panicking; like trying to drive a car with the hand brake on. With practice, the more you stop panic attacks in their tracks, the less they’ll bother you.

Some people believe that once you’ve had panic attacks, you’ll always be prone to them. This is just not true. With a combination of relaxation training, hypnotherapy, and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT), you can very easily stop them forever, as I did and have done for countless others.

Mark Tyrrell is a therapist, author and trainer, and co-founder of the world’s largest hypnosis website where he has created a download for panic attacks.

Mark is also co-founder and Creative Director of Uncommon Knowledge and helped establish a highly regarded diploma course in evidence-based hypnotherapy and psychotherapy. He has trained thousands of therapists.

I want to thank everyone who took the time to enter the giveaway to win 1 of 3 basic memberships to Reg Blackwood’s newest project, Streetnosis. The contest is currently closed and Reg and I have finished picking the winners for the contest. If your one of the lucky winners you’ll be notified by e-mail later tonight with more instructions.

Click Here To See What The Streetnosis Contest Is All About

I also wanted to inform everyone of a little surprise Reg has for one of the winners of this contest. I didn’t even know about this until an hour ago when Reg and I were choosing the winners. Reg has decided to choose 4 winners instead of 3 and one lucky winner will receive a FULL membership to Streetnosis.

That’s what I call a great Christmas gift! Below are the winners of the Streetnosis contest. Once again, if you’ve won I’ll be contacting you by e-mail soon.

NOTE: The winners of the secondary contest which was only for people who purchased the course through one of the links on my contest page will be contacted by e-mail as well and won’t be listed here. I’ll be e-mailing you soon to get your mailing addresses.

Here Are The Four Winners of The Whatsonmybrain.com Streetnosis Giveaway.

1. Becks – You win a FULL Membership to Streetnosis (Congratz…you were chosen personally by Reg Blackwood)

2. JohnL – You win a basic membership to Streetnosis (Merry Christmas)

3. Steven – You win a basic membership to Streetnosis (Looking forward to see some videos from you after you take Streetnosis)

4. Andrew – You win a basic membership to Streetnosis ( last but not least. Enjoy)

Once again, I want to give a special thank you to everyone who entered the contest. I also want to thank my good friend and mentor Reg Blackwood for allowing us to have this contest. Reg put a lot of work into Streetnosis and it is seriously one hell of a training program. Unique in that it can continue to grow because of the platform Reg is using to release this project. A lot of people think Street Hypnosis is for kids, but you’re dead wrong if you thing that about this wonderful art form. There is no better way to horn your skills then to work with random people.

Don’t Dismiss Street Hypnosis So Easy

The media already has crazy ideas of what Hypnosis is, but Street Hypnosis allows us to go to the street and show people what Hypnosis is all about. We are taking action and going to the public instead of them coming to us. We are bringing positive changes to people who may have never come to see a Hypnotist and that is truly a special thing.

Street Hypnosis can help us build our confidence, horn our skills and make us a lot of money while providing people a good time and truly bring changes. Streetnosis by Reg Blackwood is just the start and I promise you’ll be a different Hypnotist after watching and going through his training.

I got to go, but I recommend you sign up for my newsletter which is at the top and bottom of this post because I’ll be another contest like this before Christmas is up. I also want you to check out Reg Blackwood’s website/blog as he has some really great content which I’m sure you’ll enjoy.

If you didn’t win it’s okay as I’ll do more giveaways and contest in the future, but don’t let winning keep you from checking out Reg’s Streetnosis project.

To Your Success,

Josh & Reg

This contest has now officially ended. I will be announcing the winners in the next day or so. If you are the winners I’ll notify you by e-mail soon. Thank you to everyone who took part in my Streetnosis giveaway.

Over the last couple of weeks on my newsletter and blog I’ve been dropping hints about the newest project from one of my friends and mentors, Reg Blackwood. Well, over almost 6 months of waiting and planning Reg has finally released Streetnosis.

If you’re a regular reader of this hypnosis blog then you know Reg is a fan favorite and frequent guest writer here. Reg is an amazing Hypnotist and trainer with over 10 years of hand on experience in the fields of Street, Clinical and Stage Hypnosis. His experience as a Street Hypnotist gives Reg a unique insight into Hypnosis and how to apply it within almost any situation instantly. No hour long pre-talks or spending 30 minutes getting to know his volunteer. We’re talking about deep trance within seconds!

Beside being a walking library of hypnosis information Reg is also just a nice guy. When no one knew who I was and no one wanted to help me with the learning process when I started out Reg reached out and helped me out when no one else would. Reg’s background as a comedian combined with his hands on experience makes him a wonderful instructor who can keep you entertained as well as teach you some serious stuff. If you’ve seen Reg’s last project called Hypnosis Happens then you know I’m telling the truth. You can read my review of Hypnosis Happens by clicking the link below:

Hypnosis Happens Review

Here is a small video that gives you a little bit more information about Streetnosis:

Streetnosis is a unique project as it’s a complete training course on Street Hypnosis which is something you don’t see offered much on the internet which is odd since Street Hypnosis is so popular nowadays. In addition, Reg offers something completely unique to this project which I’ve never seen done before. He actually teaches you Hypnosis backwards.

Yes, backwards.

It’s a unique way of teaching created by Reg which allows you to learn hypnosis in a much more complete way. You’ll have a much deeper understanding of Hypnosis when done. As Reg claims you’ll now know Hypnosis backward and forward. Funny!

I Thought It Was Time For A Change

I was given early access to a full membership of Streetnosis by Reg so I could check it out and to be honest I’ve been a bit of overwhelmed by the scope and detail of this new project. Reg has really outdone himself and published Streetnosis on a new platform which gives the Reg the ability to add new information and provide more value to his students. Obviously I could go on and on about Reg and his credibility, but his reputation in this business speaks for it’s self. I am planning to do a complete review of Streetnosis in the near future so stay tuned for that as well.

I know this may seem a little odd to some of you as I usually do a review when someone I trust launches a new product, but I’ve decided to do something a little different this time. I hope you enjoy it and if I get good feedback I’ll do more of these type of post in the future. It’s time for me to move on and in doing so let me tell you how you can win 1 of 3 free Basic Access Memberships For Reg Blackwood’s Streetnosis.

In addition, I know a lot of you don’t care about giveaways and would rather just purchase Streetnosis outright which means you have no need to win a free basis access membership since you’ve already bought it. Well, I have something special for those of you who purchase Streetnosis too. So keep reading below to get all the details.

You may think you can skip this step, but if you do I promise you won’t win a copy. You’ll need to know this information in order to complete the second part of this contest.

Technically the two videos below have nothing to do with the contest, but they are just plain funny. Reg Blackwood shows he is more then just a Street Hypnotist…He’s a Street Hypnotist who can rap. Reg made these videos just for fun and they are pretty good so I thought I would post them here so you could check them out. Feel free to leave Reg feedback and let him know what you think of the videos.

We Say Goodbye To One Of The Greats

The Hypnosis world has lost one of it’s greatest teachers this week. Legendary Hypnotist and Trainer, Gil Boyne passed away the other day.

I never knew Gil personally, but I have spoke with him once in a while online on different hypnosis websites. I also consider myself to be a student of his as I spent years studying his books and videos.

He can never be replaced, but his legacy will continue to live on through every Hypnotist who has ever studied his massive body of work. He was a true leader of our field and inspired many of the greats in our business including, but not limited to Jerry Kein, Stephen Parkhill, Cal Banyan and so many others.

My prayers go out to his family during this time and may we all strive to be more like this amazing teacher and even more amazing man.

R.I.P. Gil Boyne

Have you ever wished that you could be more consistent in your chosen sport? Perhaps your game flows smoothly during practice, but somehow seems to let you down when things become more competitive? And what’s going on those days when everything just seems to fall into place? Why is it you are on top of your game one day and then beating yourself up over your head the next day when nothing flows.

Sports psychology certainly isn’t a new or unfamiliar concept. Soviet Olympic teams were using it in the 1950s, and today, most professional teams or players employ a psychologist or coach to influence the mental factors affecting performance.

So you’re probably already aware that mental rehearsal is considered a vital ingredient for sporting success – and any form of mental rehearsal is, in effect, hypnosis. What’s not so well known is that it’s how you mentally rehearse that makes the difference. It’s quite possible to mentally rehearse success the wrong way!

In this article, we’ll look at the right way to use hypnosis for sports improvement.

The Psychology of Power

In his book, The Psychology of Power, J.A. Hadfield describes an experiment in which he tested subjects’ strength by having them grip a dynamometer, under three different conditions of awareness. In normal, everyday consciousness, the average grip was measured at 101lb. Subjects were then hypnotized and given the suggestion that they were very weak – the average grip fell to just 29lb. Lastly, subjects were given the hypnotic suggestion that they were very strong – and the average grip was then measured at 142lb. This is an almost 50% increase in strength!

Hypnosis doesn’t just improve brute strength. It can also be used to improve technique.

Colonel George Hall was a USAAF pilot who was shot down over North Vietnam in 1965. Captured by the VietCong, he was incarcerated in a POW camp for seven years. Throughout his long captivity, he escaped into his imagination and imagined playing golf. He relived in his mind the perfect days that he’d enjoyed on the course, the smell of the grass, the sunlight on his skin, and hitting the perfect shot, time after time.

One month after his return from the war, Col. Hall played in a tournament and shot a 76. His long years of mental practice had improved his game. Why? Because he’d practiced success.

Practice Makes Perfect?

Col. Hall’s story teaches us something very important. Practice doesn’t necessarily make perfect. You could practice all day every day, but if you consistently miss, all you’re doing is becoming very skilled at missing. The saying should really be perfect practice makes perfect.

So how do you practice perfectly?

Researchers Sian Beilock and Sara Gonso tested the putting accuracy of 15 novice student golfers and 13 students with at least ten years golfing experience.

The students completed their putts after one of two imagery tasks: either ten imaginary putts performed as fast and as accurately as possible, or ten imagined putts performed as accurately as possible, taking as long as they wanted.

The skilled golfers then performed real life putts, and demonstrated more accuracy after the fast imagery task than after the slow imagery task. The opposite was true for the novices, who putted more accurately after imagining slow putts.

This fits in with research on the effects of speed on real life actions. Experienced athletes benefit from executing moves quickly whereas novices typically benefit from taking their time and thinking about actions which are not yet familiar.

In another experiment, Australian researchers asked 20 highly experienced golfers to do one of three things whilst taking a putt – focus on three words associated with their technique (eg, arms, weight, head); focus on three irrelevant words, such as the names of colors; or focus on one word associated with how they wanted their action to be, eg smooth.

The golfers then performed in two situations – one for fun and one where real money was at stake. Their performances were only adversely affected in the real money game and only if they thought about the words associated with their technique. Conversely, their performance improved under pressure when thinking about the irrelevant words and was absolutely at its best when thinking about the positive summary word.

The Flow State

All of these findings show us how to defeat our inner opponent. We can rehearse the perfect game in your mind, just as Col. Hall did in Vietnam. We can make this even more effective by rehearsing at a level appropriate to our expertise – eg, by taking it slowly at first if we have to, just as we would in real life.

Furthermore, we need to switch off unwanted distractions. The golfers in the Australian experiment performed badly when under pressure, both from the circumstances of the game and from their own internal chatter. This would have aroused anxiety, even if they weren’t consciously aware of it. The chemical changes brought about by that heightened emotion disrupted the appropriate muscle tension, interfering with actions that are usually automatic.

Psychologists refer to the state of effortless unconscious skill as the flow state. It can be disrupted, as the Australian experiment shows. But it can also be accessed very quickly, and that can be done through hypnosis.

Process vs Outcome

When you’re game goes smoothly in practice sessions, it’s because you’re not really thinking about anything else, except playing the game, whatever it might be. The outcome is irrelevant.

On the other hand, when you play in a competitive situation and you really, really want to win, suddenly the outcome is very relevant. You stop focusing on the game, and start focusing on the result. Consequently, your performance drops. Anxiety interferes with the neural pathways that control your muscle actions, and automatic things become conscious. You’ve dropped out of the flow state.

To achieve the flow state, we need to get out of our own way.

A Hypnotic Technique For Sports Improvement

The following hypnotic technique brings all of these findings together, and is an effective for sports improvement at any level.

* If you have a particular sports role model or hero, watch a number of performances of them in action.

* Find somewhere where you can relax comfortably for a while. You can even do this standing up.

* Close your eyes, and imagine that your role model is stood in front of you, engaged in their sport. Make this as detailed as you possibly can in your mind’s eye.

* Now imagine what it would be like if you could step into their body, and begin to see the game through their eyes. What do they see, hear and feel?

* Imagine playing the perfect game as your role model. Notice how effortless it seems to them, how distractions or thoughts of the future fade away, and how they simply focus on the game at hand.

* Replay the game in your mind in slow motion, and then at normal speed. You can do this as many times as you choose.

* Take a deep breath and return to the room in your own time, bringing some of that new understanding with you.

The human brain is a highly sophisticated learning machine. From the moment we’re born to the moment we die, our brains never stop processing information, searching for patterns and creating knowledge out of the vast mass of raw sensory data that surrounds us. So why is it, then, that so many people find study to be such an effort?

Often, it’s not what we study but the way in which we study that has an effect. Perhaps you’ve had the experience of a charismatic teacher who was able to make even the dullest and most irrelevant subject come alive for you. Or perhaps you experienced the opposite, a teacher who was able to make the most fascinating ideas terminally boring!

The same principle holds true in our adult life, when formal study is likely to be on our own initiative. Even though we’ve chosen to study, the way in which we go about it can be like that mediocre teacher, making the subject boring and irrelevant to us. And who in their right minds wants to study something that’s boring and irrelevant?

Successful study depends on speaking the brain’s language – and speaking the brain’s language is what hypnosis is all about. The following hypnosis tips will help you to make your studies inspiring, rewarding and ultimately more successful.

First Of All – Relax

Stress and high emotional arousal interfere with memory, recall, analysis and clear rational thought – the very things you need to study effectively. Practise regular self-hypnosis for relaxation, and you will significantly improve your ability to study.

Open Up The Mind

The human brain has two sides to it. A logical, analytical side, which is fascinated by detail, and an emotional and creative side, which is fascinated by patterns. These are often referred to as “left” and “right” brains, since these functions are mostly (but not exclusively) located in the left and right hemispheres of the brain respectively.

Most traditional learning and study is aimed at the left brain, but we learn much more effectively when both side are engaged. Here is a simple Hypnosis tip for Study Improvement.

* Before you begin to study, choose a spot somewhere up above eye level where your eyes can rest comfortably.

* Keeping your eyes fixed on that spot, allow your awareness to drift out to the right. Spend a few moments just noting the things you can see in the periphery of your vision on the right hand side.

* Return your awareness to that central spot.

* Next, keeping your eyes fixed on that spot, allow your awareness to drift out to the left. Spend a few moments just noting the things that you can see in the periphery of your vision on the left hand side.

You can achieve the same effect of “waking up” both hemispheres of the brain with “Lazy Eights”. Rapidly draw horizontal eights, first with the right hand and then with the left, changing direction halfway through. You can do this with pen and paper, or trace them in the air with your finger.

The Language Of Memory

Any type of study will involve memorizing information. This may or may not stick in the mind, depending on the type of information involved. Abstract, technical information can be particularly difficult to keep hold of.

To improve your ability to memorize, you need to understand that the human brain is designed to deal with things in the real world of the senses. It likes objects, movement, sights, sounds, textures, smells and tastes. It latches on to color, shapes and patterns, and it especially seems to appreciate humor. Apparently, we’re far more likely to remember something if we find it funny.

We can use this to our advantage by turning anything we need to remember into a vivid sensory image, the more colorful and humorous the better. For example, if you wanted to remember the atomic number of lithium (3) you might visualize three Kurt Cobains singing “Lithium”.

Developing Positive Expectations

As is generally the case in life, study is affected by our expectations of it, for better or for worse. If we expect something to be difficult, boring and tedious, nine times out of ten that’s exactly what it will turn out to be. Conversely, if we approach our studies with positive expectations for smooth and straightforward learning, we’ll have a much more rewarding time of it.

Below are some Hypnosis Tips for Study Improvement.

* Relax into trance using one of the self-hypnosis methods described on this site.

* In your imagination, get a sense of yourself looking relaxed and at ease with your study. Notice what it is about yourself that lets you know that you find your subject rewarding, enjoyable and fascinating.

* When you have that sense in your mind, drift into that representation and experience it from the inside. Feel what it’s like to be able to study with relaxed, concentrated ease.

* Imagine knowledge and learning flowing towards you like a color or a light, and feel it settle into your mind and body at every level.

* Return to everyday awareness when you are ready to do so, bringing some of that feeling back with you.

So as you can see Hypnosis can be a great benefit for those seeking to improve their studies. I hope you enjoyed these little Hypnosis Tips for Study Improvement.

Meditation For Reaching Goals

Quite often, we say that the way to tackle any problem or task is to stop and slowly ascertain what exactly must happen to accomplish the work or solve the problem. This is a good step in the right direction, but meditation for reaching your goals can be just as important.

A plan on how to do anything is critical to the success of the endeavor, without a doubt. Of equal importance is the proper motivation actually to do what is required to start the plan and carry it through to completion.

Meditation is a design for placing an individual at one with himself or herself. It is not concerned with attitudes or work ethics of other people, only those qualities as they exist within one’s self. Others may hamper accomplishments, but they do not control reaching goals.

Because of the relaxation and stress reduction that comes with meditation, the mind becomes clearer and more focused on the real objectives. The minor difficulties are less of a nuisance because you can better understand the lack of importance they have.

Of course, meditation for reaching your goals is not a one-time activity, nor is it an activity done at a certain hour so many times per day. It is more about quality than it is about how often or when it is accomplished. Each session meets with varying results.

At the start, your attempts may not garner the achievements you hope they will. Be not discouraged because the power is within you to be victorious in small ways that build into your overall major objectives.

Meditation is instrumental in understanding that we do not always get everything that we desire, but we do get just rewards for the efforts we put forth. The time frame of accomplishment is not always as we expect, but dedication and concentration reap good results.

The adage of “success breeds success” is true. As you arrive at milestones on your quest for whatever you hope to accomplish, each one lifts you to do better in each succeeding point of accomplishment. Any failure to achieve along the way should only make the effort more concentrated on ensuing attempts.

The choice is yours. However, If you choose wisely, meditation can be a part of your life in helping you reach your goals.
