I suppose that this technique would work quite well with Self Hypnosis, during the Affirmation – Visualization stage. I will put it to use and convey my findings.

Greetings from Sweden. I am fairly new at hypnosis, looking for all tips I can get. I love this. I will start using it right away. I just have a question. Do you ask your client prior to the hypnosis, if he/she admire someone or if there is a special ability, wish or something else they want to have? And do you put this wishes in the suggestions before the client go into the circle?

Good technique Josh, and it is really important to allow the subject to decide some things - no-one knows them quite like they know themselves! I do like the sound of this one, so I will give it a go sometime. Perhaps I will try it on myself first. This technique should really allow the subject to taylor the session exactly to their needs. Nice one!

P.S. I will send you some more guest blogs in the near future. I am pretty much settled in my new home now.

Hey Paula,

Great to have you on the site. Yeah, the basics of this technique are not new. I just added some stuff of my own and upgraded it a little as does everyone in our profession. I have used this successful for confidence as you stated and it works great. I once had a client who wanted to be more confidence and I had him imagine every confidence person I could think of in the media and who that person wanted to behave more like.

I got a report back a few months later from him and he let me know he is know V.P. of his company, married to the woman of his dreams and gets respect everywhere he goes. Now that is what I call a confidence booster :) This technique works great for habits as well.

An EXCELLENT technique, Josh!

I've never heard it presented in this specific way, but another related concept is the "Circle of Confidence" which we use frequently with those who are anxious and with sports performance enhancement sessions.

It's a similar proceedure, and when the client steps into their Circle of Confidence (imagined perhaps by drawing a big white chalk circle around the important area they will occupy), they have everything they need to face the tasks at hand - be that to focus and make the important play or move with perfection, or to handle a public speaking event, or to get through a job interview, or to manage whatever difficult or 'scary' challenge that may arise.

Great stuff!

Hey Ellie,

Thanks for the compliment. I have actually used this with a blackboard induction and the results we're really wonderful for the client. I really wish I remember who created this technique, but it is such a great use of imagery, metaphor and suggestion.

I make sure every session uses this technique and to enhance it sometimes I will tell the client to imagine the circle being whatever color they enjoy.

This is brilliant, Josh. I like the circle imagery (especially if you use a blackboard induction, using the words "do not break the circle" - this would have a built in anchor). Nice.
