Hypnosis Training, Marketing Tips

Why Hypnotists Should Start Their Own Hypnosis Blog

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Personally, mine was pretty laid back so nothing to complain about on my end. Now before we get to the meat of this post I want to say thanks to everyone who complimented me on the new blog design. So far, people seem to agree that it’s much easier to navigate. So once again thanks for your support.

Why Aren’t You A Famous Hypnotist?

Now, let’s get to business here shall we? As most of my readers know I like to focus on the business aspect of the hypnosis profession. I think our profession has tons of untapped potential, but the biggest problem seems to be that a good potion of Hypnotists lack certain entrepreneurs & marketing skills that are critical to your success in this business. We have tons of Hypnotists in this profession, but only a handful are really well known and respected.

Why is that you ask? Why is it that some Hypnotists seem to stand out from the crowd and attain more success then others in this business? I once asked this question after a seminar I spoke at and got one common answer. Most of the people attending the event thought that the type of training a Hypnotist receives made the difference.

Now, while proper and quality hypnosis training is really, really important this isn’t what makes Hypnotists like Tom Nicoli, Cal Banyan, Adam Eason & others stand out. In truth it’s not really one thing as it’s more of a combination of special skill sets, but the most important skill out of that skill set they process which makes them stand out from the crowd is online marketing. I know, mind blowing isn’t it? Now, when I say online marketing I’m not talking about get rich quick and make money online even though you can generate a ton of money online if you know what your doing.

Think about this, how did you come to discover me? Why do you look to me for hypnosis information and advice? Knowing how to use and leverage the Internet is the key to establishing your credibility, brand, products and services quicker then any other form of marketing that I know of. We live in a world where technology is king and while you don’t have to master it you at least need to know how to leverage it if you want to stand out from the crowd.

What Is A Blog?

For those of you who think I’m speaking alien Blogging is one of the most powerful forms of online marketing. It allows you to build your credibility, reach an world wide audience, network with others, establish your brand, marketing your services or products and my favorite part, earn extra income. Yes, you can earn money from blogging and no it’s no some get rich quick shceme. It takes a lot of work, time and effort.

A blog is basically a type of online journal or web log which is were the term blog comes from. You can pretty much find a blog on any subject or niche. What you’ll reading right now is a blog. Hell, some blogs look better than websites in my opinion and the truth is that many businesses and people are now using blogs instead of websites to promote their products or services. One of the reasons blogs are so popular is because they are pretty much turnkey.

A Couple of Advantages to Having a Hypnosis Blog

Most blogs use templates which make it where you really don’t need to know any type of programming abilities. All you need to know how to do is point and click using a mouse. It’s really that easy once you get going. Another advantage blogs have over websites is that you don’t have to pay a dime to set up and run a blog. Blogging services such as Blogger and WordPress (The one I recommend) have free services which don’t cost a dime. Another advantage is that search engines love blogs. The reason is because search engines like Google and Yahoo exist to help you find information.

Search engines love pure text and Blogs are basically online journals where you write or talk about anything you want so search engines love them when the information contained within the blog is quality content. If your wondering, getting your blog/website in search engines like Google is key to your success. It’s not hard to do and I’ll show you how in an up and coming blog post. Remember, how can people know about you if they can’t find you. Being listed in search engines allows people to discover you and blogs make it super simple.

Blogs also allow you to add on enhancements called plugin’s which allow you to do all types of cool stuff. WordPress is the one that uses plugin’s so please just keep that in mind. A lot of the features you see on my blog are plugin’s at work. Btw, I’m also running what is called a premium version of wordpress which allows me to do a lot more stuff and have more freedom with the blog. I’ll have some resources below to help you make sense of all this so don’t worry.

So as you can see blogs have a lot of advantage over traditional websites which usually require some form of coding knowledge and if you don’t know how to then you may find yourself hiring someone who does, which is fine, but for the sake of this article blogging is our focus.

Why Is Having a Hypnosis Blog Important To Your Success

So as you can see Blogs have a lot of advantages, but why is having a Hypnosis Blog important to your success? A short answer is that it all comes down to perception. In our society we tend to associate people who are published authors or out in the lime light as experts or leaders to some degree or another. When you have a blog you are putting yourself out to the world. The goal is that as you produce quality content you will come to be seen as an expert.

A blog allows you to reach people you never could if you didn’t have one. The Internet allows your blog to be seen by the entire world. This allows you to reach a much larger audience and even more powerful then that it allows you to reach a targeted audience which is the key to marketing. People seeking out Hypnosis information have a chance of finding your blog which equals targeted marketing. For instance, you wouldn’t want to target people interested in frogs to come to your hypnosis blog. You want people interested in hypnosis to come to your hypnosis blog. Got the idea?

How I Started My Hypnosis Blog

When I started this blog I was a nobody in the world of Hypnosis. I actually started this blog just to serve as a online journal to document my journey. I knew from the start though that my blog would grow with me as I become a better Hypnotist. I always had an outcome with the blog and it was to develop my own skills and abilities so I could help others through the blog. At the start no one really read my blog, but I stuck with it and kept writing. I actually wrote one post every two days. It wasn’t easy, but I stayed with it and now my Hypnosis blog is one of the most read Hypnosis resources on the internet and one of the top Hypnosis Blogs. I don’t say this to brag, but to show you how a blog can be leveraged. I have since leveraged my blog by having guest writers who I build relationships with which have led to bigger and better things such as JV’s, cross promotion and much more.

When it really comes down to is something called exposure. Blogs help you get exposure and build a following of loyal readers when you provide quality content and value. When you provide value to peoples life you tend to receive value in return. The more people who visit your blog and find information that is of value will tell others which will lead to more and more people discovering you and what you have to say. The problem with websites is that they have no personality. Blogs allow you to connect with a reader over time which builds trust which is the core to any successful business. If people don’t trust a business they don’t buy from that business. So when you create a blog and talk about Hypnosis and share Hypnosis Information and Tips you become the go to person for that information.

How Not To Blog

I think you can see how a blog can benefit you and your business, but a few words of wisdom. Do not create a blog just to market your product or services. If someone wanted a sales pitch they would go to a sales letter. A blog is designed so you can connect with an audience or create a audience and build trust with them over time by providing value and establishing yourself as an expert. Now, I’m not saying you can’t mention your services or products because you should mention them because they are a part of your life. The blog is about letting people into your life. Some of the most popular blogs are ones that let people in behind the scenes of your life and business. The key is to just mix it in with your content over time. Think of your blog as a cocktail drink. A mixture of different items which when combined create something that people will enjoy.

Here are two examples:

1.Most of the time I provide nothing but quality content, but once in a while I will promote an event I’m part of or a product I’m working on. This works because I provide value most of the time so people are more then willing to listen to me talk about a product or event. In most cases, they are more likely to buy from you because you have earned their trust. Just make sure you don’t throw that trust down the toilet.

2. Cal Banyan is another example. His blog features video podcast where he answers questions about hypnosis from fellow Hypnotists or people just interested in learning more. The podcast feature some really good information. Now, if you read his blog you will notice he promotes a lot of his trainings and products and people are fine with it because he provides value. So just remember, if you are thinking about starting a blog just remember that content is king and value is everything. You build credibility, rapport and respect through value and you earn income through offering that value. Does that make sense?

You Can Learn To Become A Successful Blogger

Blogging like anything else is a skill. You actually get better at blogging the more you do it. You also build an audience the longer you blog because with each and every post you make you begin to get more and more listings in the search engines which means more traffic. When I first started out I sucked a blogging. I was never a really good writer or speller and to be honest I’m still an awful speller and don’t consider myself a great writer. Funny, because many people compliment me on my writing. Has the world gone mad? lol

When I first started I always knew I wanted my blog to become part of a bigger picture. I wanted it to play a role within my business. Many bloggers don’t consider their blog a part of their business and my advice to you is think of your blog as a business tool. The truth is that you will make a lot of mistakes when you start out, but as we know mistakes make us stronger because if we learn from them it can really move us forward in a powerful way. Luckily, you have me so you can learn from my mistakes so you don’t have to make them. In any case here are a few simple tips to get you going on the right path if you decide to start a blog. (I will have resources below that will guide you from starting a blog to creating a blog that looks professional and can even generate income.

1.Think Before You Jump – Put some thought into the name of your blog and if you can think of a catchy tagline. If possible, use a keyword or two for the niche you are trying to get into. For instance, if you deal with Hypnosis which I assume you are try to include it in the name somehow. The reason is search engines scan the title and tagline for keywords so you want it to mention Hypnosis somewhere if possible so when you blog is indexed it gets indexed with other Hypnosis Blogs. Now, you don’t have to do this step as I made this mistake in the beginning. You can still get some great results, but it just means you need to make sure you title your blog post correctly. Once again you’ll learn how to do this later on.

2. It’s Not About The Money – Don’t blog to make money because you will never make money doing it that way. A lot of people get into blogging to sell products, affiliate marketing, ad space and etc. You can make money with blogs as I make a pretty good income from mine, but you must first focus on providing value to your readers and rewards will come to you down the road. I have always believed that when you love what you do and you have a passion for it money will follow. The goal of your blog should be to provide value to your readers and market yourself as the expert for you do. I never once blogged for money, but I still make money with my blog. I focus on providing good quality and content and the other stuff just happens. The search engines love quality content and your readers can tell if you are just trying to write a bunch of crappy articles filled with keywords to get higher rankings in the search engines.

3. If Your Serious Go With WordPress – I highly recommend in the beginning when you are first starting out to use a free service such as Blogger or WordPress. Now, if you decide blogging is for you and you are willing to get serious about it like I am than I recommend you invest in a domain name and get the WordPress Premium Blog service. It’s still free, but this version will allow you to do a lot more and customize it anyway you like. Blogger is decent, but you will be limited with what you can do. Once again, don’t worry as I’ll have some videos for you below that will show you how to do everything we have talked about in this post.

4. Choose A Nice Template – Blogger and WordPress come with a bunch of free templates and many of them are quite good. WordPress has a much bigger selection as it’s the popular choice. Now, once again I recommend if you decide that starting a blog is for you that you invest in a premium theme. Theme is another name for template and while there are some nice free themes on the internet the premium ones look amazing. The theme I’m using on my blog is a premium one and while they do cost money they are well worth the investment. Remember, when you are branding yourself on the internet credibility is everything. So if you produce a crappy looking blog what does that say about your business? You can find some really nice premium themes HERE

5. Don’t Give Up -When you first start blogging its going to be tough as your blog is new and you won’t have a lot of readers. It takes time and a lot of content posting in the beginning to really start to see some results. As anything in life you get what you put into it so just focus on writing or producing quality content and keep at it. Eventually your blog will be placed in search engines and you’ll start to receive traffic. Most people give up blogging right when they are about to get some success. I have been at it for 4 years and right after the first year is when I started to see some success. So don’t give up and keep at it. You are a Hypnotist so just make sure to do a lot of self hypnosis ;)

6. Study Blogging and Learn From Others – This may be the single, biggest piece of advice I can give anyone getting started in the world of blogging. If you want to become very successful at blogging you should study blogging. It’s no different then when you learned how to Hypnotize someone. You had to learn how to do it and then you just kept studying and go better and better. Blogging is a actual subject you can study and there are teachers and mentors out there that teach you how to blog effectively. As I mentioned, when a blog is done correctly and the time and effort is put in blogs can produce income, a lot of income. I consider blogging a business for me and you should to. Invest in studying blogging as there are some amazing free resources which I’m going to share with you in just a moment. One of them is going to be the link to a bloggers site that taught me a lot of what I know. You guys know I can only hook you up with the best!

Well, those are just some small pieces of advice that will serve you well as a future blogger. I must admit, blogging is a lot of fun when you get going and a great way to get some stuff off of your mind. Well, now it’s time for me to share the goodies with you, but I ask one favor. The information I’m about to provide you with is the exact steps on how I and many other Hypnosis bloggers got to this point so please respect the information that is given. Also remember that success is determined by those who take action. So on to the FREE STUFF

A Bunch Of Free, Powerful Resources To Get You Started Blogging

This post was never designed to be a step by step guide on how to start a blog as it’s more of an introduction to why blogs are such great marketing tools and why more Hypnotists should employ them. Blogs, just like us continue to grow and evolve over time. Understand that I will be sharing more detailed post on blogging and online marketing for Hypnotist in the future, but in the meantime let’s get you blogging…

They are not in the Hypnosis niche, but the information when applied is universal. So click the link below for 10 free videos on setting up your blog and getting started.

The 10 FREE Become A Blogger Videos

P.S. I also recommend you download their free ebook as well as it goes even deeper and shares more insights into blogging. I’ve read it and recommend it, plus its free so hell, you can’t beat that! Now, let me move on to the second resource which you should use everyday once you start up your blog.

Resource 2: Yaro Starak

This second resource is the biggest gift I can give away to all of you. If you have ever wondered how I come up with some of the post and ideas I come up with then look no further. I’m giving you my secret mentor. Yaro Starak is a full time blogger who makes a six figure income off of his blog. He is an entrepreneur and a mentor to me. His blog is one of the best blogging resources I have ever come across and the amount of information at his blog will leave you dazed. I was first introduced to Yaro by a friend in the internet marketing business. He gave me a e-book Yaro wrote which is what took me from small time blogging to big time blogging. You can find this free e-book below..

Blog Profit Blueprint

I recommend you start with the e-book but then I recommend you just start reading his blog which if read over time will teach you pretty much everything you need to know about blogging. Well, if your good at paying attention and taking action. His blog contains resources, interviews, articles, reviews and a lot more. He also offers blog training which I recommend and have taken, but for now, just read his e-book and then start reading his blog. The e-book will contain the address to his blog and yes, it’s completely free as well.

P.S. These e-books are not some little 10 page books. These are 80 and 90 page books so please make sure you read them and apply the information. These two resources alone will get you moving in the right direction. I have kept Yaro a secret for myself for many years, but I’m getting older and it’s not about that any more. It’s about seeing all of us grow and watching the profession of Hypnotism grow with us. After you read watch the free videos and read the e-books leave me a comment below this post and let me know what you thought. Btw, if you have any questions let me know as I can help you take the information they provide and fill in any gaps you may have for the Hypnosis niche.

In Closing

I hope you can see the benefits of starting a blog and why they can be such powerful tools for marketing, building credibility and exposure. Starting a blog was one of the best moves I ever made and if you ask people like Cal Banyan I’m sure he’ll agree with me. It lets me connect with people on a level that just isn’t possible without the hypnosis blog. There is so much knowledge available in our niche and blogs are a great way to share it. We have a few good hypnosis blogs in the hypnosis world, but we could use a lot more.

Now, before I go I want to say that blogging isn’t for everyone. When you blog you are open for the world to see and judge. Blogging, in some cases if you take it as serious of me can take a lot of time, but if you know your outcome it can be worth it. Article Marketing, Blogging, Social media, websites are all part of the bigger picture and smart Hypnotists will continue to learn how to use these vices and leverage them. Blogging has meant a lot to me and allows me a creative outlook as well as a effective business tool.

I challenge you to at least start one and see where it goes because at the end of the day it’s free and a free asset is a great thing to have!

To Your Success,

Joshua Houghton

  1. Chet Payne Says:

Excellent! I have been blogging for a while but this is the first time I ever had a real blog, a self hosted blog and it is the first time I have done it for business.

Today is exactly 1 month and 3 days since the start of my blog. By the way I came across that Yaro guy last night when I was reading different blogs. What a small world. Good stuff! :)
