It’s a controversial area of hypnosis, this idea of traveling back in our minds to previous lifetimes. I find it fascinating, yet I’m also something of a skeptic. There are those who swear by it and those who swear about it! Many people who are otherwise great proponents of hypnosis, will state that past life regression is utter nonsense, only practiced by quacks. On the other hand, there are undoubtedly many people who have used past life regression to successfully heal issues in their current lives.

So is it real? When you take a client back in time to visit previous incarnations, are they really remembering things from a past life? Is their imagination just making stuff up? And how much does it matter which is really the case?

I love thinking about this stuff and having discussions about it. You can usually get a really good debate going if you lob this into a conversation, although it can get a bit heated if you have people who feel really strongly one way or the other.

The evidence for past life regression is mainly anecdotal. The problem is that, in spite of what many people think, and some high profile (and what I consider rather dubious) cases of re-incarnated Cleopatra’s and Priests from the lost city of Atlantis, most clients in regression remember previous lives that are of very little significance to the time that they were set in. Very few people remember being well known figures of history. And of course the details of ordinary people are not well documented in the records of the time, making it difficult to confirm or refute the information that a client recalls in such a session. So we’re left to ponder over whether Mary the scullery maid in a fairly ordinary household somewhere in England ever really existed.

Also, in regression we rarely ask for or hear specific historical details. The purpose of regression is usually linked to current emotional and psychological issues the client is trying to resolve. So in fact it’s usually powerful emotions that people experience in these regressions, rather than detailed recollections that would be useful for verification purposes.

So perhaps our imagination just makes things up for us, when we go into past lives. Let’s say a client has an unexplained fear of water which they would like to overcome so they can enjoy boat trips with their family. In a past life regression, they “discover” that as a child in one of their previous lives they were playing on a river bank, tripped and slipped into the river. They couldn’t swim (as most people couldn’t in the past), and drowned. Often simply discovering the root cause of fear can diminish it dramatically. So the client leaves, feeling much more positive. They feel they now know where their fear comes from, so they naturally feel more in control of it. They know that so long as they learn to swim, there’s no longer any reason to be afraid of being in or on the water.

So does it matter whether their imagination pulled that “past life” out of nowhere, or whether that really is the root of their fear? Personally, I don’t think it does. Our unconscious minds are incredibly resourceful and creative and can help us to access our natural wisdom. So if that unconscious mind creates a metaphor, wrapping it up in a personal story from an imaginary past, who cares so long as it brings about healing and allows the individual to move forward in a positive way! And who are we to judge if the client involved is totally convinced that they have visited a real memory or not?

Perhaps one day we’ll know for certain whether past life memories are real or imagined. My own experiences of being regressed I found intriguing. It leaves me feeling open-mindedly sceptical if that’s not an oxy-moron! It also leaves me with mixed feelings if a client asks if I do past life regressions – am I being professional if I offer this service that many people find genuinely helpful, or am I colluding in promoting a delusional fantasy? Definitely food for thought.

I’d love to know what you, my readers, think on this controversial topic. So do please write in or use the comment box below.

With many types of hypnosis work, visualizations are a core aspect of what we hypnotherapists do. While you might occasionally get away with, “Imagine you’re in a beautiful place”, most clients will want a few more clues! So how can you make the visualizations you use more powerful?

How can you make it almost impossible for your client to resist the pull of the image you’re creating? You want them to become completely immersed in their inner world, so what can you do to make it as real for them as possible?

Some therapists make the mistake of trying to describe every little detail of whatever the client is meant to be experiencing in visualization. I say “make the mistake” because it’s an incredibly difficult thing to get every detail right for that particular client. Let’s take an example. Suppose I suggest to a client that as they’re walking along the sandy path through a meadow, they can hear the sound of running water in the distance. They follow the sound, and it brings them to a small river. They walk along the river bank for a few minutes, with the river on their right, enjoying the sound of the water and the warmth of the sun on their skin. After a short distance, they come to some stepping stones, that lead across to the other side of the river…

At this point, half of you might be thinking, “OK – what’s wrong with that?” because my description will have fitted accurately what you were imagining. But the other 50% of readers will have experienced at least one moment of difficulty within that simple paragraph. Firstly, as you imagined following the sound of water and stumbling upon the little river, what if in your mind at that point the river was on your left? The next thing you’re told is that the river’s on your right. It can jar and irritate that you’re being told something that doesn’t match with what you’ve already imagined. The second point of difficulty… what if in your mind there were shady trees lining the riverbank? But the therapist tells you that you can feel the warmth of the sun on your skin.

Now in reality, if you have a good relationship with the client, and they trust you, and they’re willingly trying to make the hypnosis work well, they’ll probably just do a mental shrug and think, “Oh, ok, so the river’s actually on my right…” and carry on. But it’s not ideal, and for clients who find it difficult to visualize clearly, it makes it even more difficult. Also, if we can easily find two jarring moments in a short paragraph like this, just think how many there might be in a whole visualization, especially if you’re trying to be really detailed. One or two you might get away with, but the more often it happens, the less deeply your client will be able to immerse themselves in the visualization.

So, without going into huge detail, how can you make your visualizations as powerful as possible for the client? Here are a few key pointers to help you:

Allow the client to picture everything for themselves, by being non-directive. Rather than telling them, “the beautiful staircase is made out of intricate, wrought iron, with delicate carvings of plants woven throughout the balustrade”, you can direct them to notice the details for themselves: “As you get closer to the bottom of the staircase, take a moment to look carefully at it. Notice what materials have been used to construct this staircase. Is it intricate or plain? Does it have open sides, or is there a banister or balustrade of some kind?” This way, whatever the client imagines remains “right” and can’t be jarred by your suggestions of something that doesn’t fit with what they’ve already pictured. You’re helping them to build up a detailed image of their inner world, and you’re giving them the key components that are necessary for whatever intervention you are using, but you’re not telling them exactly what it should look like. Later, an analysis of what they created can lead to interesting insights as to the symbolic nature of the different objects in their inner world. This wouldn’t be relevant if you told them exactly what to picture. This technique is particularly important and effective if you’re asking them to visualize an event or experience that they’re preparing for or dealing with. Only they will know what the relevant details really are

If your client prefers a more directive, authoritarian approach, be really careful about the order of the descriptions you give. If we take the original example about the river, you can circumvent trouble by stating where something is, or is coming from, before saying what it is, so it arrives, fully formed and in the right place in the client’s inner world. So if the river being on the right, and the sunshine were both in some way important, our example might look more like this:

As you walk along that sandy path through the meadow, some distance away to your right you can hear the inviting sound of running water. You follow that sound, and soon you discover a small river running through the open, sunny meadow. Notice how the sunlight dances on the water. Turn so that the water is on your right, and walk along the river bank for a few minutes, enjoying the sound of the bubbling water and the warmth of the sun on your skin. After a while, you notice some stepping stones that lead across to the other side of the river…

Can you see how there’s far less margin for error here than in the original version? It takes a bit of thought and care, but is far less likely to cause the client irritation, or get in the way of their becoming fully immersed in the image.

Use all of the senses. This is critical for really immersive visualization. Not everyone is particularly visual. In fact some people find it really difficult to conjure up a strong, visual image. But if you involve all of the senses, then it doesn’t matter whether you have a predominantly aural, visual or kinaesthetic client, you will have satisfied their needs, and you will be giving them the information or prompts they require so they can imagine the details vividly in their own way. So as well as talking about what they can see, get them thinking about what they can smell (the warm damp earth? The heady scent of flowers?), what they can taste (the salt of the sea on the air?), what they can hear (the singing of birds? The light bubbling of a stream? The hum of insects on a summers day?) and feel (the polished smoothness of a marble floor? The dry, powdery sand running through their fingers? The cool breeze against their skin?).

By including all the senses, you make it difficult for your client not to let themselves drift deeply into the place you’re creating with them.

Give them time to explore for themselves. Once you’ve established the “place” that the client is visiting in visualization, giving them a few moments simply to explore and discover this place will help them to sink even deeper into the “reality” of the visualization.

Ask them what worked. Feedback is such a useful tool. If you plan to re-use the same or similar visualization with the client, ask them what worked well, and whether anything got in the way. If it’s appropriate, ask them to describe some of the details they noticed within the visualization. You can mention one or two of these the next time, knowing that they will be consistent with the client’s image of this “place” or experience.

So there you have it. In short:

Let them picture everything for themselves

Be careful about the order you say things in – give locations and directions before giving detailed descriptions

USE ALL FIVE SENSES (if you do nothing else, do this!)

Give the client some time to explore their inner world for themselves

Get feedback. Find out what worked for them, and use it again next time!

A few weeks ago I ask everyone on my mailing list what they wanted to learn about and I got a overwhelming response. The topics ranged from Conversational Hypnosis, Suggestion Formation and even how to build rapport, but the number one topic people wanted me to blog more about was the Infamous Rapid and Instant Hypnosis Induction.

It’s didn’t really surprise me as Rapid and Instant Inductions are one of the most powerful tools a Hypnotist can know. They look cool, work fast and get your clients to the necessary level we want to work with them at which is Somnambulism. Since this is one of the most requested topics I plan on doing a series of post on these types of hypnosis inductions. I’ve already began working on a couple, but I’m currently working on a few projects outside of the hypnosis business which are eating up all my time.

Click Here To Watch The Physiology Behind Instant Inductions Video

So in the meantime while I’m working to clear up my schedule I thought I would post a really amazing video from my friend and fellow Hypnotist, Taylor Sherman. A few years ago Taylor and I released a Instant and Rapid Induction Home Study Course called Tranced Out. We only offered Tranced Out for a limited time for a number of reasons and within one week we completely sold out. I’m pretty sure most of you remember when Taylor and I did the launch for Tranced Out because we posted some really great content.

One of the pieces of content we posted on the Product Launch Blog for Tranced Out was an amazing video by Taylor where he breaks down the The Physiology Behind Instant Inductions.

Click Here Or The Image of The Video To View The Real Video

If you ever wondered why the rapid or instant Hypnosis Induction works the way they work then this post is for you. Now I’m aware some of you may have seen this video, but over the years I’ve got a lot more readers who haven’t seen the video. I think this video could be helpful for those and even those who may have seen it a while back, but have forgotten for whatever reason.

I’ve got to run, but I’ll be back soon with a number of new post and material. Just bear with me as I get caught up with work. Oh, before I go please make sure you check out Taylor’s official hypnosis website below.

Washington DC Hypnosis

If you’re truly serious about learning to master these Instant and Rapid Inductions I highly recommend you seek out either a live training event or a well produced Training DVD. It is possible to learn these techniques without formal training, but you will save yourself a lot of time and trouble by going the route I recommend.

Out of all the training DVDs I have the best by far is Sean Michael Andrews Instant and Rapid Induction Second Edition DVD Set. I personally own this and have learn a lot from it. Sean is a good friend, but also an amazing teacher. So if you do decide to go the formal training route you won’t go wrong with this investment. All you have to do is click the link below to be taken to Sean official website for this training product.

Note: The following link is an affiliate link and if you do decide to make an investment in your training you will be supporting Whats On My Brain and you have my sincere thanks. As always I like to be upfront with everything I do as I truly believe you all deserve it.

It’s also a concept that clinical hypnotists frequently work with, as it fits so well with hypnotism.

As a practicing hypnotist, you would be expected to be able to offer inner child work where appropriate, so let’s take a brief look at what or who the inner child is, and its relevance to clinical hypnosis.

First of all, I want to be clear that not everyone subscribes to the idea of the Inner child, and inner child work, although very popular and generally accepted in psychological circles definitely has its critics. But then so does hypnosis in general! For the purpose of writing this article it’ll make life much easier if I don’t have to keep saying things like, “Proponents of Inner Child work believe…” As it happens, I’ve had a lot of success with inner child work, and I love using it with clients, so I guess I’m pretty much a convert. Besides, if it gets results, why knock it?!

Maybe in another article I’ll look at the criticisms of inner child work (it’s useful to know what they are, if for no other reason than to be prepared for those who will say it’s all rubbish) but for now, I simply want to give a brief over view of the concept.

Where Does Inner Child Work Come From?

Inner Child work has different guises in many different branches of psychology, including Transactional Analysis, Gestalt therapy, psycho-analysis, psycho-synthesis and clinical hypnosis, but they all, in their own way, say the same thing… that we have many different selves within us; different sub-personalities, many of which have their roots in a developmental stage from our past. And at any one time, the way we behave, feel and react to life is dictated by which of those sub-personalities is in control.

This isn’t a form of neurosis or psychosis, it’s perfectly normal! And when the positive aspects of those sub-personalities are freed up it can even be very healthy! Each of these sub-personalities has its own beliefs, attitudes and, most importantly, hidden agendas. For many of us, particularly when pressure mounts, it’s our child-self which comes to the fore, and that’s not always the best person to be in charge! We all recognize that feeling of insecurity, don’t we, where underneath the brave front we feel like five year old just waiting for our cover to be blown?

We’re Children For Life

We’re all born with a natural tendency to be open, inquisitive, playful and full of wonder. Some people say this is naturally how we are, our “true self”. This child-personality remains a part of our psyche for life, and has some very positive characteristics which emerge in a sense of fun, creativity and spontaneity, if we allow it to.

However, our early childhood experiences have a major impact upon us. By the age of 5 or 6, this “divine child” as Jung referred to it has been replaced by the “wounded child”. This is when we realize to our horror that the universe does not revolve around us. That it’s not enough to simply be ourselves. To be loved by our parents we have to conform, be “good” (or quiet, or aggressive – whatever our particular family dynamic emphasizes).

So no matter how good, kind, loving and supportive our parents were, as far as our “child” is concerned, we clearly were not loved enough. And of course, if our parents were abusive or neglectful, then the damage goes much deeper.

It is this “wounded child”, unconsciously carried around with us, angry, confused, frightened, insecure and manipulative, that is seen as the source of many of our difficulties as adults. That wounded child is frozen in time, influencing our behavior and decisions as it tries to re-write history and secure the unconditional love and approval it desperately wants. Until we deal with the unresolved issues of early childhood, and satisfy the needs of our child-self, it’s difficult to move forward as healthy, balanced, mature adults.

The Inner Child Part 2 Is Coming Soon

Psychotherapy, psychoanalysis and counseling all tend to spend a great deal of time rooting around in childhood memories, working and re-working the issues. They certainly have their place, and can be very valuable. But one of the joys of being a hypnotist is that we can work directly with the unconscious mind, where these different sub-personalities “live”. We can quickly and effectively work with this wounded child to bring about rapid, life-changing results.

Just how we go about working with the Inner Child in hypnosis will be the subject of my next article, so I hope you’ll come back to take a look.

If you remember about a month ago John flooded my Hypnosis blog with tons of amazing articles written to help you make a full time living from your hypnosis business.

The feedback I got was amazing and to be honest the information was so good it could have been sold, but John decided to just give it away. Well John is back after taking a much needed vacation with a new article on how to attract business using word of mouth. If you have a hypnosis business or are thinking of starting one then make sure you read this article as I’m sure it will provide you a lot of value and help you to succeed.

John has released an amazing program for Hypnotists who want to take their practice and business to the next level. The Hypnosis Business Coaching Home Study Program will take you by the hand and show you step by step how to build a practice that will easily bring in 5 figures or more. This course covers everything from getting clients, using social media, promoting your company, working with doctors and much more. This program may literally change our profession forever and to my knowledge this program will be something completely new to the hypnosis world and has never been done before.

============================================================

One thing that you commonly hear from established and successful hypnotists is that a great majority of their business comes due to word of mouth. Word of mouth business is one of the easiest ways to get your appointment book filled up but how does one get people spreading the word? This blog will give you a few simple strategies to begin achieving this.

The key to creating word of mouth business is by turning your clients into raving fans. To do this, keep this principle in mind, “Under promise and over deliver.” Always go above and beyond your client’s expectations to ensure their success. If you always follow this principle then you will be always creating raving fans of your work.

Next principle to always stay true to is the idea of “Top of Mind Awareness.” What this principle means is continuing to stay in contact with your clients so that you stay in the forefront of their minds and they continue to think of you long after their sessions are completed. Please understand that I am not implying that you spam your clients or send them tons of information all the time. What I mean by this is making some sort of personal contact with them periodically such as a phone call or personal email to check in on them and see how they are doing in addition to your normal marketing. Personal contact like this keeps you at the top of their mid, lets them know that you care, and opens the door of opportunity for other sessions and/or referrals.

Click Here To Learn More About John’s Hypnosis Business Coaching Home Study Program

Perhaps the best way to create raving fans and steady streams of referral business is to send your client handwritten thank you notes after the session. In the world today everything is electronic and handwriting a thank you note to your clients will separate you from the pack. When you take the time to handwrite a thank you note it conveys love and appreciation to your clients. Trust me if you do this they will remember you forever! Be sure to also include business cards in your thank you note so that your new raving fan can go out and spread the word.

Finally, after a successful session with a client, give them some business cards (always a minimum of 3) and ask them to share them with others who could benefit from a session. When you ask…you receive.

To summarize, in order to generate word of mouth business work on creating raving fans of your work by under promising and over delivering, keep yourself at “top of the mind awareness,” send thank you notes, and ask for referrals. If you follow these principles then you will have a free sales-force of raving fans out there and will keep business flowing in with minimal effort on your part.

Yours Truly In Success,

In part one of this article we covered inner game and target selection. We recommend you read that section first before you continue with the rest of this article.

Nightclubs, and noisy venues can be hard to gain the attention of anyone, when drunk men are bouncing around and causing a lot of hassle for pretty girls. How can we possibly gain the attention of a girl if we expect to hypnotize them or begin to seduce them?

The key to pick up and hypnosis alike, is about building responses which start off small within a person, and then develop them to a point where you can state “You can really feel that can’t you” in Head Hacking courses for a number of years we have referred to this as progressing a linear response and turning it binary.

Read the previous article if you want to know how to start compliance with unresponsive audiences in the competitive scenarios where more than a few hundred people are fighting for attention. The rest part two will continue to describe how to increase this compliance to a goal once you’ve gained interest, fascination, attention, a look, a stare, a smile, or something from a subject.

Let them watch you – Once you notice someone in the audience is paying you interest

With hypnotic subjects, I will have them stand around me for a little bit before I hypnotize them, I tend to watch when I speak who is listening to me, who is paying attention to me when I walk around a venue, then I assume they will be responsive to me, I believe that
their attention isn’t being competed for, or that my competitors for their attention are not as unique, or as useful to the watcher as I am for them, and therefore I have their interest.

In seduction it is said that if you are unique, for example dressed in an extravagant fashion then you have social proof when people in the venue watch you. And you have this massivesocial effect. When I went out and created this effect I would also receive much higher
results as a hypnotist, which lead me to develop this theoretic that I have been explaining this far.

Who said you can't hypnotize bunnies?

It’s really important that your audience ends up investing more energy and time into you than you appear to be investing into them. Sure you need to make them feel somewhat special and not put them down, or make them feel uncool but you need to be clear that you
are to be respected.

It’s important when you are progressing with a girl that you never tell them that you like them, that you never indicate that your wanting attraction with them. This cannot be communicated in either your body language or your words. In the Pickup community this is referred to as ‘indirect theory’.

As a general overview, indirect approaches are subtle, and very “under the radar” versus a direct approach. It gives the PUA flexibility to maneuver the pickup to befriending the girls if they seem not interested in a romantic relationship, or using the targets as social proof and pivots. It also allows for role reversals where the target can qualify herself to the PUA post-attraction as she does not know the PUA’s real intentions. (source:pualingo) while your indirect in your approach in the sense that you never directly convey interest,
while you continue progressing the eye contact, the touching as much as you can get away with without alerting her that she has to make a decision about whether she’s attracted to you.

Because the moment she has to make a decision she will bring up all of her frames and expectations about what kind of man she wants, about how she feels, about work and career and friends that you will likely fail on. She doesn’t know you she has no commitment towards you the moment you force her to make a decision as to whether she likes you, whether the decision was forced by subtext or explicitly stated, you’ve lost the girl.

When you follow Vince's advice this is the response you can get

The reason why building commitment while at the same time being indirect works in persuasion, is referred to as ‘foot in the door technique’. “It’s a compliance tactic that involves getting a person to agree to a large request by first setting them up by having that person agree to a modest request.[1][2][3] The foot-in-the-door technique succeeds due to a basic human reality that social scientists call “successive approximations”. Basically, the more a subject goes along with small requests or commitments, the more likely that subject is to continue in a desired direction of attitude or behavioral change and feel obligated to go along with larger requests” (Source: Wikipedia)

Give them a quick moment to watch you, the impression should always be in their mind that they are watching you way more than your watching them. Give them a moment to see you smile into the distance (never pout into the distance) then look at them a pout a little. (both these looks have evidence sourced from http://stats.OKcupid.com).

Girls are constantly making a decision about you, they want you until they don’t want you.Allow them to find all the reasons about you that they like you and they will only be able to see through that frame. But the moment you say or do something wrong then they will see you through the frame that your ugly, etc. According to the NLP encyclopaedia (nlpuniversitypress.com) the term ‘frame’ is used to refer to a general focus or direction that provides an overall guidance for thoughts and actions during an interaction. Frames
greatly influence the way specific experiences and events are interpreted and responded to.

In hypnosis the pretalk; that is the conversation you have before you hypnotize someone often causes how the experience is interpreted by the subject. It’s the same in seduction if you lead people to believe that you are respected, and attractive, then they’ll probably just go with those beliefs.

Find a shared moment

So a lot of the time an interaction happens, that is when you begin talking, or interacting with a stranger; someone you previously had no connection to, the reason for your ‘coming together’ was that something ‘situational’ occurred. It might be that you notice something
situational about the person you spot, “I think that outfit is great”, “your so happy”, something you state about yourself “I’m in such a good mood”, or something about the environment “Its great in here isn’t it?” it could be that the song in the background is progressing towards a peak.

When doing Street Hypnosis it's so important to stay relaxed and be confident

One of the things it can be is that you two seem to share various things in common, for example you might be dancing in the same manner, or matching each other’s vibe energy, for example moving in the same rhythm, smiling in the same manner. Commonality has been shown by scientists and economist theorists to be one of the main cause for partnerships, as it lowers costs experienced as an individual as you work together producing synergies as a team. Its just a moment where you suddenly acknowledge that your both not
separate identities, you both are together under some kind of shared context and you point this out.

In Head Hacking courses we typically make the recommendation for new ‘street hypnotists’ to use the CIQ model, which is compliment, introduction, question. When meeting someone, essentially here I’m putting the same idea forwards, but I feel I’m adding a bit of
depth into the way I see the approach from a pick up perspective. If you want to get really good as a hypnotist the most important skill you can learn is the actual approach of meeting strangers and giving them a positive perception of your character as a cool person.

Touch

An important aspect of pick up is escalation of touch, eye contact, proximity, isolation without making it seem false, forced, put on, formal, arranged, pre planned etc. it should feel spontaneous, accidental, automatic, passionate, electric, sparkle, natural, lustful. So to
do this we have various recommendations when meeting girls, Lightly touch her abdomen as if by accident. Hold her back as you pull her forwards so she talks into your hear so you can hear what she’s saying loudly. And Hold her back, accidentally touch her bum as you
lean into her ear, look her in the eye as you move across her face, sometimes be very close as if your lips could touch but only for a moment as you move across to do something else.

One of the biggest mistakes that pick up artists make, is that they check that a girl is interested on every step of escalation. For example they might touch a girls arm and wait for the girl to touch his arm before he progresses to touch her back. Or he might give her direct
eye contact, and wait until she looks at him and smiles or gives eye contact before he continues to touch her abdomen, a lot of times you won’t get such explicit signals from girls. Therefore it’s a much better tactic to continue escalating, but at a pace that seems to
naturally suit the flow of events, rather than any neediness you experience.

Let your imagination run wild with this picture

In Hypnosis, hypnotists often ruin their results by checking that the subject is ‘really hypnotized’ and if they experience any evidence that isn’t with their model of what they expect the subject to be doing then they assume the subject isn’t hypnotized. The classic example is where a subject laughs during hypnosis and the hypnotist suddenly thinks ‘your not hypnotized’ and decides to wake them up, other more complex examples might be when a hypnotist sticks a subjects feet to the floor then requests that the subject steps forwards (so the hypnotist can prove to himself that they are hypnotized) but the subject does step forwards (as a response to the suggestion) which then makes the hypnotist believe the subject was not hypnotized.

I always tell street hypnosis students, the clearer you can illustrate exactly what the subject should be doing; task related instructions then the better a hypnotist you’ll be. As pick up is a very goal-orientated sport, you should be delivering the clear message to your compliant subject that ‘you fancy me’ this should be conveyed in everything you do but never explicitly stated, the equivalent scenario in hypnosis would be saying “if you can wake up from this trance then you’re not hypnotized” say this and the subject will just open their eyes and say ‘I can’t be hypnotized’.

These mistakes are the majority of reasons that a hypnotist will loose a compliant subject after the subject has agreed to engage with the imaginative process. Explicit instructions for actions, without confusing the agreed events to occur by checking or asking for conflicting signals is important in preventing labeling compliant people as ‘resistant’.

Vince shares his years of knowledge with a group of students

Your So Close Don’t Kill It

Never go meta.in your conversations; is something I constantly tell students, what is meta? Meta is when you talk about the process of something, or comment on the macro-elements about something rather than refer to the process of experiencing it. With guys learning pick up, they tend to mention attraction to girls, or expect agreement from them to actually say ‘yeah I like you’.

You should never imply anything is other than ‘of the moment’ if something’s funny it’s because it’s funny, Its like when someone tells a joke and someone goes “that’s funny” that response sounds sarcastic because they are so detached from the actual experience of the
joke that they almost analyze it in the third person. By you doing this to people around you it teaches them how to detach and speak in the third person about experiences you try to create in their head.

You can say too much, the girls preconceptions, misconceptions about what she wants, who she wants to be, her past experiences might be brought up by the things you say. Sometimes its best just to focus on what she wants and going with the moment.

In martial arts, you use the other persons energy to make your moves have more strength, it’s the same in conversation, go with the flow, be like water.

Why get consent, when it’s clearly already on

Talking about sex, talking about attraction, when your going to meet up, go round each others houses, turns it into a business contract rather than an amazing something that just happened! It takes the energy out of it, it makes it cold, formal.

You don’t need to have her explicit consent about sex or attraction or her even liking you if you know you’re the bomb, why would you care anyway?! Read her signals use that as the tell tale signs that its on.

Kissing is a ideomotor yearning, how can you tell someone wants to kiss you, because when you move closer to them they move closer to you, a kiss should never be thought about or preplanned its just your coping each other so much that you just come together in a
moment.

Conclusion

Game is simple, you want it, she doesn’t want it until it happens. If you don’t want the result ‘to get with girls’ then either don’t play or find a way to make yourself want it (i.e. change your psychology using the steps mentioned above; it will help you get over ex, judging
people, worrying about your career etc.) . Once you’ve decided you want to play, then your job is to work them up until they experience the phenomena and then go binary and say “now your experiencing that right?” but until then, it’s about the building of linear
responses, you never can explicitly state it.

Vince taking a photo with Ross Jeffries during a break at their seminar

From linear “Tighten up that arm, make a fist, no consciously make that arm really tight, I’m telling you to make that arm tight”, to binary “and Now realize it’s tightened all by itself, like it’s just stuck out there” is similar to ‘touching touching, eye contact, talking into ear, brushing of faces” to “kissing” binary to “you’re really pretty” binary.

This article was intended to show various parallels between street hypnosis and pick up. Many of the techniques described here could be seen to be advanced. I would always argue that the majority of success with hypnosis comes down to set up, yet this is something that is never talked about in hypnosis training courses and books. What we’ve outlined should be considered a model for subject selection, with particular focus on the niche of picking up hot chicks in busy environments.

It’s been a very long week and I’m looking forward to a relaxing weekend. I’ve been a little under the weather, but finally starting to get my strength back. So I thought I would take a stab at writing a new blog post so you all have something to read over the weekend.

In the spirit of the upcoming weekend which means a fresh start for us on Monday I decided I wanted to try something new and interesting here on this hypnosis blog. I thought it might be cool to start doing a series on the history of hypnosis. Now I don’t know how many of these post I’ll do so I guess that just depends on the feedback I get from all of you. So the first post in our series on the History of Hypnosis will be about Franz Anton Mesmer.

NOTE: The article below is not meant to teach or tell the entire history of Franz Anton Mesmer, but instead serve as a general history of the life of Franz Anton Mesmer

———————————————————————————-

The name Mesmer might just mean something to you if you’ve been learning about hypnosis. And even if it doesn’t, you’ll probably have used his name at some point without realizing it; we describe people as “mesmerized” when they are totally absorbed in one thing, captivated by it and oblivious to everything else. So who was Mesmer and what did he have to do with hypnosis?

Franz Anton Mesmer – Who Was He?

Until I started looking into hypnosis seriously, I always thought of Mesmer as a rather flamboyant Victorian figure – but in fact he was around much, much earlier, and because of this, I suppose he could be forgiven for some of his idiosyncrasies – you’ll see what I’m talking about shortly! Let’s just say he did his bit to give hypnotism the reputation of having occult overtones and “charlatan” image that we still have to battle against today! So let’s take a quick look at this rather strange but fascinating character, who was perhaps his own worst enemy…

Mesmer was born in 1734 in Germany. He was a good scholar, studying theology and law before taking up medicine at the University of Vienna. Mesmer found himself fascinated by the work and thoughts of Sir Isaac Newton, and he wrote a thesis, inspired by Newton’s theories, suggesting the gravitational pull of the moon and the planets might affect the human body.

He came to believe there was a kind of invisible fluid that ran through space and matter, and that this fluid, or “ether” could be pulled by the gravitational force of the different astronomical bodies. This idea was disparaged by many in later years, yet it’s uncannily close to recent scientific theories about dark matter and string theory, so maybe he wasn’t so crazy after all! At the time, his theories were seen as quite plausible, and worthy of discussion in higher scientific circles.

At the age of 34 he found himself a wealthy widow for a wife. She was 10 years his senior and they set themselves up in grand style, living on a huge estate and enjoying many cultural pursuits. He seemed set for life.

The Start of Animal Magnetism

When he witnessed a Jesuit professor placing a powerful magnet on a woman suffering severe stomach cramps, and saw the cramps quickly fade, he was even more convinced that a gravitational or magnetic pull had a profound effect on human health. He began to use magnets in his own medical practice, convinced they were pushing and pulling the “ether” around the body. Being a bit of a megalomaniac, he would go through theatrical rituals, passing the magnets over and around the patients in melodramatic procedures… Who knows whether he thought these over the top measures were necessary, or whether he realized they made the patients more ready to believe that he was somehow, rather magically “curing” them. Either way, he soon made quite a name for himself.

On one occasion when he bled a patient with leeches (don’t forget, we’re talking about almost 250 years ago – it was normal to bleed almost every patient in this way, for virtually any complaint!) – he noticed that the blood flow increased when he moved close to the patient and slowed when he move away. This convinced Mesmer that he himself was affecting the “tides” in the patient’s body. He believed he was acting as a magnet, and coined the phrase “Animal Magnetism”. He believed everyone had this Animal Magnetism, and that ailments were caused by a patient’s animal magnetism becoming depleted. He dispensed with the use of actual magnets, believing it was the physician who could bring about healing by transmitting their own, abundant animal magnetism to the patient.

How Fame Can Go To Our Heads

He was clearly a charismatic character, and produced a large number of remarkable “cures”. He did have rather a love of the dramatic, and became quite a celebrity, taking his “show” on the road, touring the royal courts of Europe and giving dramatic demonstrations of his “powers”. He loved to dress in deep purple robes, and wave his hands around theatrically, staring deeply into the patient’s eyes and speaking in deep, sonorous tones.

His showmanship and celebrity made him less than popular in medical circles, so Vienna’s medical elite were more than happy to jump at the chance of discrediting him when one particular case went wrong. Ironically, it was initially a rather successful case. A young, blind concert pianist came to him for treatment, hoping to be cured of her psychosomatic blindness. And indeed, she regained her vision under Mesmer’s treatment. However her parents were outraged on two counts.

One, their daughter’s piano playing seemed to deteriorate when she was able to see. And secondly, they received a kind of allowance, a royal pension, which would cease if the girl regained her sight. So they forcibly removed her from Mesmer’s house and insisted that the treatment was stopped. They also allowed rumors to circulate that he may have had an “inappropriate relationship” with the girl, which seems unlikely. Her blindness returned, her piano playing improved, and their quality of life was safe!

The End Of Franz Anton Mesmer…Sort Of

Mesmer took himself off to Paris, somewhat in disgrace, but continued to practice, and continued to court controversy. The scientific and medical establishment may have been right to accuse him of being unable to prove his theories, but they completely missed what was happening. After all, there’s little doubt that he was genuinely successful in a great many cases. What they failed to recognize, partly due to Mesmer’s egotistical and over elaborate rituals, was that he was using psychological techniques, trance induction and hypnotic suggestion, which would later be developed by doctors like James Braid and James Esdaile into what we now understand as hypnosis.

So, we hypnotists today have a lot to both thank and curse Mesmer for. But there’s no getting away from the fact that he makes an interesting interlude in the history of hypnotism!

Over the years, I have had the tremendous honor of certifying new hypnotists from around the country. Once the course is over, the most common question that I get from students is how do I get started without an office space? I am sure this is a question that many new hypnotists have, and possibly established ones too, so I thought I would share an idea to help everyone get started in this business.

It is possible to create a profitable hypnosis business without having an office space or working with clients out of your home. In fact, operating your business from a virtual office is an excellent way to keep your costs down, help others, and still grow a big business. Here is what I suggest implementing if you want to operate your business like this.

One of the most profitable ways to grow your hypnotherapy business and help a lot of people in the process is through group hypnosis. Now I understand that many people have a fear of public speaking and have no intention of getting before large groups of people, and that is ok. What I am suggesting is not doing large groups but conducting private hypnosis house parties at the homes of your clients. There are many businesses like Pampered Chef and Mary Kay that operate their business out of other people’s houses and this method has produced a huge number of people that have created financial prosperity doing this. Hypnosis house parties can produce the same type of success for you. Here are the steps to make this happen.

Click Here To Learn About John Weir’s Hypnosis Business Coaching Home Study Program

Step one is to contact all your friends, family, and potential clients, and inform them that you are now conducting hypnosis house parties to help people create success. Step two is to get the interested people working for you to help the groups grow. To do this, let the interested person know that if they are willing to host the party and can find 5 or more people to sign up then they can get their session(s) for free. Step three is to go to the host’s house and conduct the session(s). Step four is to ask all in attendance for a list of names and contact information of people who they think would be interested in this type of party.

There are so many benefits to implementing this into your business plan. First of all, it eliminates the expenses that come with an office space. Second, it eliminates strangers from coming to your house for sessions. Third, group sessions like this increase your earning potential for your time. Fourth, when you get an interested host, it is like getting a free salesperson for your business. They do all the work spreading the word about the group and getting people there. This is worth its weight in gold because it gets people to learn about you with no effort on your part. Finally, after you do the group, you can build a new lead list by asking the clients for referrals.

Here are a couple of other side notes. The best house parties are the ones that have mass appeal. Consider doing hypnosis house parties for weight management, stress reduction, success/abundance, and past life regression. In my opinion, weight management and past life regression parties are the best because you can make them multi-session programs. Also, be sure to get the investment for the sessions in advance to eliminate the possibility of showing up for the session and not having your minimum number there.

This is just one of the ways to get your hypnosis business growing without an office space. I hope this article has given you a direction to move in and inspired some new creative ideas on how to help others and make some great money in the process.

Is Hypnosis Meant For Every Situation?

The other day I was catching up with an old friend from a long time back, who was raving about Transactional Analysis (TA. He’d just recently trained in it and he didn’t know how deeply involved with hypnosis I am (that’s how old a friend he is!). Every time I mentioned any kind of problem, or even anything about members of my family or friends, out it would come. “Ah!” he’d say knowingly. “They were in parent mode, rather than adult mode you see…” and off he’d go again.

Now I find the theory behind Transactional Analysis as interesting as the next person, maybe more so because I’m fascinated by any approach to human psychology, how our brains work, and anything that tries to explain the human condition. But the problem for me was that he was saying TA was the answer to absolutely everything. No other form of psychology or therapy or philosophy was given the time of day, and would have been regarded as inferior by him anyway. He was so over the top about it that I started to use my “relax and stay calm” anchor to prevent me from actually throwing him out the nearest window! (OK, that’s an exaggeration – but you get the idea!)

Hypnosis Isn’t The Only Game In Town

In my experience it’s a common problem though. Many therapists train in a particular discipline. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy’s particularly popular today and well regarded in medical circles. But there are all sorts of other mind-therapies too, most of them perfectly respectable and extremely useful; Jungian psycho-analysis; Rogerian therapy; NLP; Time Line Therapy; Gestalt therapy; Life Coaching; even Freud’s psychodynamic therapy still has its place… I could go on, and on.

My point is that people who train in each of these therapies often come to the conclusion that their particular therapy is the be all and end all – the answer to everything. But the human race is made up of individuals. What if you go and see a Gestalt therapist, and it just doesn’t seem to work for you? Or maybe you just don’t like the philosophy and approach? You probably just don’t go back. Or if you’re determined to sort something out, maybe you’ll go and find a different therapist.

Personally I think the best therapists I’ve seen in action are those that have trained in several different disciplines and can offer a range of approaches. They should be able to gauge what will most likely work for you, and use a mixture of approaches and techniques tailored to you as an individual. I know there’s still a place for specialists who have trained for years and become real experts in a particular field, to a level that a “Jack of all trades” couldn’t hope to master. And a good all round therapist should be able to recognize when a client could do with that level of specialism and refer them on. That’s what I think anyway. I know there’ll be some of you out there that probably disagree with me on this – hey it’s a free world.

But where does hypnosis fit in with this? Are we hypnotists just as bad, declaring that hypnosis is the way forward for absolutely everyone? Maybe some of us are. I know I’m sometimes guilty of evangelizing about hypnosis to the point of boring the pants off someone if I’m not careful, but the way I see it, there’s one big difference between hypnosis and a lot of the therapy approaches available out there. And that’s the fact that hypnosis isn’t a philosophy or a mode of thought, or an approach to the human condition – IT’S A TOOL.

That’s all. It’s a mighty powerful tool, but it’s still just a tool. And what’s fantastic is that it’s such a versatile tool it can be used to enhance virtually every therapeutic process out there. It can make so many psychotherapies much more powerful, more effective and work so much faster.

Enhancing Other Modalities with Hypnosis

So in a way, maybe I am saying hypnosis is the answer to everything! I firmly believe that if all therapists (dare I say all health professionals?) were trained to use hypnosis effectively, every single form of therapy would be hugely enhanced, to say nothing of much better value for money!

Hey – maybe I’m just as bad as that old friend of mine. Am I annoying you yet? The difference (I hope) is that I’m not saying that hypnosis is better than other forms of therapy. I respect most kinds of therapy on offer out there, and I think there’s a whole army of people doing a great job. I’d just love them all to be able to do it even better with this amazing tool that we call hypnosis. And to be fair, as hypnotists I think we could probably all benefit from some training in some carefully selected psycho-therapeutic approaches, allowing us to offer a deeper level of support and understanding to our clients when it’s appropriate.

So maybe what I’m saying is “Hypnosis – not the answer to everything, but part of the answer to everything!” What do you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts on the subject.

If there was a way to become known in your area as the obvious expert, have an opportunity to sell your products, and generate new clients for free would you be interested? The technique I’m about to share with you is highly effective at achieving all these things and very simple to do yet it is the most underutilized marketing technique in the field. Once you start using this strategy and start reaping the rewards you will wonder what took you so long to implement this into your marketing plan.

The most underutilized marketing technique in hypnosis is giving free public talks to various groups in your area.

In my opinion, giving free public lectures on hypnosis is one of the very best ways to spread the word about your business for several reasons. One of the top reasons why I love this strategy is because it is free. When I first started in this business, money was very tight for me. Giving free lectures gave me a way to increase exposure of my business and get people excited about my services at no cost to me.

Click Here To Find Out More About John Weir’s Hypnosis Business Coaching Program

Besides being free, giving a lecture gives potential clients a chance to get to know you personally. When a person enters into any coaching or therapeutic situation trust, rapport, and comfort are three of the essential feelings that need to be present between hypnotist and client for the best results to be achieved. By presenting free lectures, it gives people an opportunity to interact with you, get a feel for your personality, and realize that you are a regular person, not some Svengali like in the strange movies that depict hypnosis. This personal interaction will do far more for you in regards to generating clients than a website or online video.

Becoming The Obvious Expert

Finally, this strategy immediately begins to solidify you as the obvious expert in your area. This occurs for two reasons. First, public speaking is the biggest fear among people. When you give a lecture to a group you get an instant level of respect and credibility because most people are terrified to give even a minute or two long public talk. Always remember that even the worst public speakers are respected.

Second, people make the assumption that if you are speaking to a group than you must be an expert in your field otherwise you wouldn’t be up there. Besides writing a book, public speaking is the fastest way to be seen as the obvious expert in your field. Now that you know some of the benefits of giving free public lectures, let’s cover how to get started.

The 3 Steps To Giving Public Talks

Step one is to find groups to speak for. Did you know that there are hundreds of local groups in your area such as Rotary Club, Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, etc that are desperate for speakers to have at their weekly meetings? These groups are perfect to speak for because they composed of your area’s business leaders, movers and shakers, and people who have large networks of people. To get an opportunity to speak for these groups is very easy. Simply go online and do a search for these various groups in your local area. Next, make a phone call and express your interest in speaking for their group. Finally, once you get them to book you, ask if they know of any other local chapters or groups that would be interested in having you speak for them too. It is easier than you would think to line up a bunch of free lectures this way. So get on the phone and line up some lectures.

Step two is to develop a lecture that is 15-20 minutes long. What I typically do when speaking for these groups is give them a modified pre-talk like the one I would give to a new client at my office. In my talks, I usually spend some time building mental expectancy about what is possible by using hypnosis in one’s life, I dispel the major misconceptions/fears, and if time permits I do group activities to demonstrate the power of the mind. If you follow your pre-talk format then it should be very easy to create a 15 minute lecture.

Step three is to promote your services. This is where you can make your free talk into a profitable 15 minutes. An interesting thing that happens at live lectures and seminars is people get emotional hooked, and want to take immediate action on what is being offered. Once I get everyone excited about hypnosis then I do a quick plug for my services. I offer discounted sessions for anybody who books afterwards as well as discounts on my products. These talks have always been very profitable for me. I usually walk out with $150-$200+ in product sales and these lectures have always generated new clients.

Giving free public talks on hypnosis is one of the easiest and most effective ways to generate new business, and become known as the obvious expert in your area. Trust me this method works. Put it to the test yourself because I know you will love the results.

Weight loss. The two words that either strike fear or bring joy to the hearts of hypnotists.

For some hypnotists weight loss is a wonderful opportunity. A weight loss client often comes in for multiple sessions over the long term, has clearly measurable results, and is a veritable walking billboard for you as a hypnotist, as all her friends and family ask her how she dropped the 50 pounds. A single success can be worth thousands of dollars in additional business.

For others weight loss presents a massive challenge. Either it’s because they find themselves overweight and so can’t seem to get the client to change, or they don’t have a concrete plan. Weight loss is often a complex issue with many factors involved, and nailing all of them can often be quite a challenge.

In this article I’m going to speak about weight loss in the context of my overall therapeutic approach, and I’ll be giving you some very clear and concrete suggestions on how to develop a program with weight loss clients. If you yourself have weight issues, you might find yourself applying these ideas to your own problem and dropping some excess baggage yourself!

The main challenge that I faced as a beginning hypnotist and therapist was the issue of context. Many times I conducted the ‘perfect session’ in the therapy room, yet later my clients would come back complaining that the change didn’t stick, or that in ‘real life’ there was no change. I quickly leaned that ‘real life’ and the therapy room were two different worlds, and the issues the client presented in the therapy room weren’t the actual issues the client was facing. Consciously they thought one thing, but reality was not like that.

To solve this, I developed a whole host of ways to bring ‘real life’ to the therapy room and have the symptoms join us right then and there so we could work on the real issues. The method that I find most effective is tasking.

When I task a client, I give them something to do in real life that I think will provoke the problem. When the client comes back the next week and tells me what went wrong, we can then work on that and make some very real progress. This makes sure that what we work on isn’t only something the client thinks is the problem, it is an actual block to their success. And so for example, when my social anxiety client reported back that he couldn’t complete his task of going over to one person per day and saying “hi”, I asked him what stopped him. We discovered that he had this voice that told him “stop!”. Once we worked with the voice, his main problem was resolved.

Once you have this concept down clearly, you quickly realize that weight loss clients are very simple to work with. Instead of trying to analyze and figure out what is wrong in the therapy room, I give the client my very very simple “Think Thin Get Slim” plan to follow and send them out into the real world. The program includes a simple eating system, a belief change element which I usually do in the live session, and a very powerful process I developed called ABTC that works directly with the subconscious to instantly change emotions, cravings, and automatic thoughts. It also includes a self-hypnosis cd that reinforces the program and the changes made.

I then have the client keep track of what they experience when they find themselves having difficulty following the plan. Once I have that information, I work on that issue and send them out again. I once again have them notice any roadblocks, and in the next session we resolve those too.

Very often as the client drops more and more weight, different issues arise. It’s almost as if every layer of fat has its own reason for being there and its own story to tell. As the previous layer comes off, the next one gets its chance.

When I work on weight loss with this approach, my clients don’t gain the weight back. That’s because instead of simply pumping the client with motivation and suggestions, doing some age regressions and parts, and peeling the pounds off, we have worked through the real issues that the layers of fat have been hiding.

My starting schedule with weight loss clients goes as follows:

-Session one.

-One week break.

-Session Two.

-Two week break.

-Session Three.

-Three week break.

-Session Four.

-One month break.

-Session Five.

In this way, I see the client 5 times over a two and a half month period. That gives us plenty of time to work through whatever comes up and set the client on a smooth path going forward. The schedule is obviously flexible according to the needs of the individual client. If a client is having trouble, I will pack the sessions closer together. I use the above schedule as a general guideline.

And so to you the hypnotist who feels fear when you hear the words “Weight Loss” , know that those sorry days are over! Simply develop a comprehensive weight loss program that gives the client a clear set of tasks to follow, and then troubleshoot from there!

When I started my practice at 19 years old, needless to say I didn’t have the capital to put forth a major marketing campaign to grow my business. My abundance of capital didn’t come in the form as money, but as time and energy. As I ponder ways to utilize my resources, I was very fortunate to have been exposed to a concept called “Guerilla Marketing.”

This approach to marketing focuses on inexpensive ways to reach the masses of people. These strategies not only influenced my business when I started but they are the things I am still implementing to this day to inform the public about my services. Of all the guerrilla marketing strategies, the one I am most fond of is the use of the press release.

What Is A Press Release?

A press release, or news release, is a short article submitted to the press that reports news or something that is newsworthy. What is newsworthy? Virtually anything can be considered newsworthy such as completing a certification course, winning an award, speaking at an event, and so on. It is important to know that press releases are not disguised ads. Press releases report nothing but the facts (who, what, where, when, or how) and are written as if you are an unbiased reporter on the subject. When a press release is written proper and accepted by a media forum then it usually turns into free articles in the newspaper, appearances on radio shows or television, and other opportunities in the media. The intention behind this post is to inform hypnotists and coaches of the benefits of using press releases to grow your business as well as to hopefully inspire you to look into this simple process more deeply.

Click Here For John’s Hypnosis Business Coaching Home Study Program

In my opinion, there are 3 key benefits that make press releases one of the absolute best ways to grow your business.

The first reason why I love using press releases is the fact that they are 100% free. When I looked into putting advertisements into the major newspapers or magazines, I was quite shocked how much a single printing of an ad would cost with no guarantee of results. However, most people are unaware that there are other ways to get into the media and get what people pay top dollar to have for free. One of these ways is by writing and submitting press releases. People don’t realize that the media is desperate for news. It takes a tremendous amount of content to fill radio shows, newspapers, and television programs each day. The media wants you as much as you want to be in the media.

All that is required to get thousands of dollars of free advertising is a little creative, time, and energy.

The second key benefit of using press releases is massive amounts of exposure. It’s always been my belief that the golden rule of marketing has always been “more expose equals more business.” Sales and business is a numbers game. The more people who are exposed to what you do the greater the likelihood of someone taking action. Not only are press releases free but they have the potential to reach hundreds of thousands of people. Back in my hometown of Pittsburgh, the major newspapers there had readerships in the range of 400,000 people. Wouldn’t you like to expose your business to 400,000+ people for free? This is the power of the press release.

Massive exposure and for free, doesn’t get any better than that.

Perhaps the most important benefit to using press releases to grow your business is the increase in prestige it brings. Elsom Eldridge wrote a book called “The Obvious Expert” which focuses on establishing yourself in your community as the go to person or the obvious expert in the area. Getting featured in the newspaper and appearing as a guest on radio and television shows is one of the easiest ways to be considered the area’s best. People have the perception that what’s in the media is true and since you were featured than you must be the best or why would the media be featuring you? Press releases are what generate these media appearances and give you instant boost in prestige in your community.

Being The Expert Means More Business

The more you get featured the more obvious your status as the expert becomes which consequently creates an increase in business. Plus, since your feature in the media isn’t a paid ad, it carries greater credibility with the public and potential clients.

When I was asked during the 2009 NGH Platinum Panel of Success “If I could pick just one marketing strategy to grow my business what would it be,” I immediately said the use of press releases. Regardless of where you are at in your business, utilizing press releases is a sure fire way to attract more clients to your office and increase your expert status in your area. I hope that this post has opened your eyes to the unlimited potential of this free marketing strategy and inspired you to take action in writing your own press releases.

Always remember the media wants to feature you all you have to do is let them know you are out there. Do something great for your business right now…write a press release and succeed today!

In efforts to help hypnotists minimize the learning curve using press releases, I put together an inexpensive program called “Press Release Power for Hypnotists.” The program contains an audio lecture that breaks down all the steps, an e-book that compliments the audio, and 3 prewritten press releases that have already made it into the media that you can edit to promote your business.
In the past decade of working as a full-time hypnotist, I have come to realize that despite all the different approaches to creating wellness through hypnosis there are two things that every hypnotist has in common; we all have to wear two hats to succeed in this profession. The ability to successfully wear both of these hats, or fulfill these two roles, will be the determining factor in how far you will go in this field.

The first hat that we all must wear is the one of the helper. Since you are a hypnotist, I would make the assumption that you have the genuine desire to help people succeed and reach their goals. It is quite obvious that helping people create their desired improvements is our primary role in the profession and perhaps the easiest way to get your business to grow. However, it is the ability to wear the other hat in this profession that enables word of mouth to spread about your business and get people into your office.

Click Here For John Weir’s Hypnosis Business Coaching Home Study Program

The other primary hat that all hypnotists must wear, but the one most often forgotten about, is the hat of the entrepreneur. In order to get people into your office so that you can provide your life-changing service, it is essential that you embrace the entrepreneurial spirit in you. I would encourage you, like I do with all of my hypnotism students, to take the time to get educated on business especially sales and marketing with the same enthusiasm that they study techniques related to hypnosis. Follow the advice of Michael Gerber from The E-Myth, “Take time out to work on your business not just in your business.”

You Always Have Time To Learn A New Skill. No Excuses Please

When I first started my business at 19 years old, I felt very comfortable with my skills as a hypnotist but not so much with my new role as someone who suddenly found themselves self-employed. I can honestly say that I didn’t have the slightest clue on how to grow a business when I got started. I knew that I needed to find ways to let people know about my services however I didn’t know what to do or even where to start. Instead of an education from academia, I decided to get educated through what Zig Ziglar calls “automobile university.” As I cruised around in my car, I would listen to one audio program after another on different business topics in order to understand how to make my dreams become a reality.

Some of my favorite speakers that influenced me in business include Zig Ziglar, Tom Hopkins, Tom Peters, Stephen Covey, John Maxwell, Les Brown, and Anthony Robbins. Besides automobile university, it took a lot of persistence as well as trial and error on my part in order to get my practice to grow and make a living serving others. If you are in a similar situation as I was when getting started, I highly encourage you to turn your car into a university to begin filling your mind with ways to succeed in business.

Wear The Two Hats And Experience Serious Success

Understand that embracing your role as an entrepreneur is just as important to success as being a proficient hypnotist. Take time each day to develop both of these roles so you feel comfortable wearing the two hats of a successful hypnotist. Use your hypnotic skills and link tons of positive, fun energy to spreading the word about your business so that you have more opportunities to share your talents with others in need. When your business grows then that means you have the ability to be a positive influence in more people’s lives and expose more people to the power of the mind.

In my last post Controlling Pain with Hypnosis Part 3 I mentioned I have something cool coming to the blog in the next day or so and that day will be tomorrow, Friday the 4th.

As we all know when a new year rolls around people like to make changes, improve themselves and set goals. I’m one of these people and one of my goals this year was to add even more value to the hypnosis blog. I’ve already made a number of changes, added a number of post and I’m not even half way done yet, but I’m not here to talk about myself….

I’m here to ask what are you doing this year to take your hypnosis business to the next level? What are you doing to enhance your hypnosis practice?

How Can I Build A Successful Practice?

One of the most asked questions I receive beside “how to do instant inductions?” is how can I build a profitable hypnosis business and get more clients to my office? How can I make more money with my practice?

It makes sense that this question would be asked a lot because without a steady influx of clients you can’t stay in business. If you can’t keep your doors open for business then you can’ t help people and make money doing what you love. During my years as a professional hypnotists I’ve noticed something with most hypnotists. Most hypnotists seem to have problems with the business and marketing side of things. The truth is if you want to be successful in this business you have to know how to do more then help people. You have to wear two hats, one as a healer/helper and one as an entrepreneur. ( Don’t worry if that didn’t make sense. It will all be explained tomorrow for you.)

Click Here To Learn More About John’s Hypnosis Business Coaching Program

Oddly enough I have always found the business side pretty easy as my background is in business and marketing. The troublesome part for me was actually learning hypnosis in the beginning. Another odd thing I’ve noticed is the huge lack of hypnotists taking advantage of one of the biggest marketing platforms available, the internet. The simple truth is that handing out business cards and running an ad in the yellow pages just isn’t enough. You may get a client or two, but no where near the amount you need to keep your doors open and make a good living with hypnosis.

Trust me, people don’t just come to you when you open your business. You have to know how to market and attract prospects to your office.

How I Plan To Help You With Building A Successful Hypnosis Practice

I want to help you take your hypnosis practice to the next level in 2011. Obviously I could just do a number of blog post since I’m an expert on marketing and business, but I thought I would switch things up a little. (I do enough talking on this blog anyway.) So I decided that all of you can benefit from hearing from someone else who knows his stuff. Someone who isn’t even 30 years old and makes six figures a year in the hypnosis profession. I’ve always believed that the best way to learn is to learn from others who are where you want to be. Learn from their advice and there mistakes and I can’t think of anyone better to provide you business coaching and advice then my really good friend, John Weir.

John teaching other hypnotists how to market their hypnosis practices

Some of you may remember John from his guest post a year ago which received some great feedback. For those of you who don’t know who John Weir is then I recommend you do some research. John is one of the rising stars in our profession and the National Guild of Hypnotists. I won’t go into his entire bio here, but I’ll post a link to his bio at the end of this post so if you want to learn more about John you can.

Either way, I gave John a call and asked if he would be willing to share his knowledge on growing a successful hypnosis practice with all of you and he said he would love too. So starting tomorrow I’m going to post John’s first article in his series on business coaching for hypnotists.

So if you have a hypnosis practice or are just thinking about opening one then you MUST tune into this series tomorrow.

In 2011 there is no reason you shouldn’t be making a great income from helping people. So make sure to check back on the blog around 12:00 noon to read the first in a series of post designed to help you take your practice to the next level.

In the last article we looked specifically at inducing analgesia. Today, in the last of this pain control series, I’m going to take you through some of the more general processes for dealing with pain in various circumstances. Indeed, although hypnosis for analgesia is often seen as the “exciting” part of pain control, what we’re looking at today are situations you’re likely to come across more often.

Hypnosis is frequently used to help people whose anxiety makes it almost impossible for them to bear the anesthetist’s needle for example, and many people with chronic pain will gain great relief from hypnotic pain management.

Preparing a nervous patient for surgery, dental work or injections

Some people dread the thought of dental work or surgery so deeply that they work themselves up into such a state that even a light touch will be translated by their brain into agony. This can be hugely frustrating for the medics dealing with these patients, and they must be tempted to treat the patient as though they’re making a ridiculous fuss over nothing (which of course they are in a way!). But of course the tension brought on by such a level of anxiety causes the muscles in the body to tense up and tighten to such an extent that, for example, the insertion of a needle genuinely is much more painful than in a relaxed patient.

As clinical hypnotists we can help this kind of client a great deal. The relationship between hypnotist and client is really important in this situation. Because the problem is mainly anxiety based, the client must feel comfortable with the hypnotist, and must develop a degree of trust. Ideally they will be taught self-hypnosis in a session or two before undergoing whatever procedure is planned. This also means they can use the techniques whenever they need to, without a hypnotist having to be present.

The key for these clients is to induce deep relaxation. They can be taught fairly rapid, progressive relaxation to carry out for themselves. They can also be given an anchoring signal to use to induce such relaxation almost immediately just by touching their fingers together, or whatever signal they choose to adopt for this purpose. They can be taken in hypnosis through whatever procedures they’re expecting to undergo. Use strong, visualization techniques to make the procedure as real as possible, while constantly reassuring and reminding them that while the procedure is being carried out, they feel safe and relaxed, knowing everything is fine. They can be taken in visualization to a beautiful, peaceful place, where they are so relaxed that whatever their body is experiencing just doesn’t seem important.

Whether or not hypnotic analgesia is then induced for the procedure itself, in patients like this the level of relaxation will make the whole procedure much more pleasant and trouble free. They will be able to deal with receiving injected anesthesia will little trouble, and will almost certainly be more co-operative throughout the procedure. Very often, once they have experienced a procedure in such a relaxed state, their fear will simply disappear from that point on, and future procedures will be easily dealt with by them.

Relieving chronic and general pain

Whether it’s just a passing headache, or the unrelenting chronic pain that accompanies certain conditions, the techniques outlined here can help. In the case of chronic pain, teaching self hypnosis is invaluable. This way the client can manage their own pain much of the time. You might also record a pain management session so that they can listen to you whenever they need to, at home or in hospital.

Substitution: a useful tool is substituting a painful sensation with something less painful. So for example if the client describes the pain as sharp, you might suggest that:

As you relax more, you will notice that the sharp, stabbing feeling of the pain changes subtly. In a strange way it becomes softer… fading more and more into the background… until it feels more like a dull, warm buzzing.

Similarly a raw pain can be translated into a tingling or a mild itch.

Dissociation: the client can learn to remove him or herself from the pain. They learn to step out of themselves, so that they’re outside of their own body, and therefore not experiencing the pain because it’s not happening to “them”. Or they can remove themselves completely, taking themselves in their imagination off to a different place altogether, leaving their body, and therefore their pain, far behind. This is a very effective technique, and useful as long as the client can take some time to be still and quiet.

Displacement: using clear suggestion, and having agreed with an alternative location for the pain beforehand, it can be hypnotically “moved” from where it is currently being experienced and shifted to an area where it’s more manageable, or even outside of the body altogether.

The dimmer switch: in hypnosis, explain to the client that the pain receptor area of the brain is a bit like a light bulb in an electrical circuit. The stronger the pain, the brighter the light glows. But they can take control of that receptor area. It’s done its job, by flagging up that there’s a problem. The client is dealing with the problem, and getting the medical treatment they need, so they can “turn down” that warning light in their brain when the interpretation of the pain is too high. Ask them to imagine the receptor area as a small room, with the light in the center, burning brightly if the pain is strong. On the wall they will see a dimmer switch, and as they slowly turn down the switch, they will see the light gradually becoming dimmer, and as the light dims, they will notice the pain becoming duller, less intense, gentler and more manageable, until it is just a dull, soft sensation in the background, allowing them to get on with the things they want to do.

Take your time with these techniques. Lots of gentle, repeated suggestion will be most effective, and importantly, teach your clients how to use these techniques for themselves. There are few situations that you’ll come across as a hypnotist that are more rewarding than seeing the relief on the faces of clients who have been dealing with pain on a long term basis and have finally found a way of being virtually pain free at times.
