My Thoughts On 2010

I just want to issue a small warning to all my readers. This is a very personal post for me and I do get a little emotional. So if you don’t want to take a look inside my soul or read a bad word or two please don’t read this post. In the spirit of change and the new year I’ve decided to bear my thoughts to all of my readers. In other words….time for me to get some stuff off my chest.

Before I begin bearing my deepest thoughts to you I want to wish all of my readers and subscribers a Happy New Year. I hope all of you had an amazing time last night. I’m sure some of you got into a little bit of trouble and I’m sure some of you can’t even remember what happened last night.

New Years Eve, Alcohol, The “F” Word and Memory Lane

What did your favorite online Hypnotist get into last night? Honestly, I didn’t do too much really. I just hung out with my lovely wife, went out to eat, spent some time with friends, cussed two people out who were acting like fools and maybe…just maybe got a little drunk. I don’t want all of you to think I’m some type of alcoholic because that couldn’t be further from the truth. I rarely drink and when I do its mostly in social situations.

Well, after waking up and suffering from a hang over for most of the day (my own fault obviously) I started to think back to 2010. Every year I always make sure to take about an hour or two out of my day and take a stroll down memory lane. I like to take a look back at everything that happened during the previous year. I know some people only want to look forward and never look back, but I’m a firm believer in learning from the past so you can make corrections in the present which allow you to create the future you desire.

Okay…maybe I stole that from a personal development book. I’m not sure as I still have a slight hangover.

The Good And The Bad

One of the first things I noticed when looking back on 2010 was that I had a lot of great things happen to me. Things I never thought that could happen to me did which I’m truly grateful for, but in addition to those good things I also had a pretty decent amount of bad things happen to me as well. Some of them you may already know if you’re an subscriber on my newsletter.

Out of all the bad things that happened this past year the worst had to be seeing my brother go from being perfectly fine and happy to being committed in a mental hospital. Out of nowhere he started to see and hear things, suffer from rage and other issues. He just got married and had a new baby and out of nowhere his whole life was turned upside down including mine and the rest of our family.

This affected me pretty deeply as I thought what if I’m next? What if this mental disorder is genetic? What if I woke up tomorrow and didn’t know the different between reality and illusion?

It’s been rough, but I’m happy to announce that things are better for him. The right treatment and medication is helping, but it’s still a long road to travel. Still, at the end of the day I have to thank God for allowing me to have the good and the bad. I know that may seem like a strange thing to say, but without the good and the bad I wouldn’t be exactly where I am today. I love my life and wouldn’t change a thing as the good things that happened in 2010 made me truly appreciate my life and the bad things just helped to make me stronger. Sometimes we don’t know our limits until we test those limits and I would like to think I’m a stronger and better person because of the pain I’ve been through.

The Evolution Of This Hypnosis Blog

During my personal reflection I thought a lot about this Hypnosis Blog. How it started, where it is and where it’s going. Whatsonmybrain.com has come a really long way since I started it all these years ago and things are still moving at an amazing rate. One of the biggest honors this blog has received has been becoming the number 1 hypnosis blog on the internet according to Google…

Beside the blog growing in popularity it has also come a long way in terms of content. For a long time a good majority of the content was provided by guest writers. Many of my good friends and fellow Hypnotists helped me to grow this blog, but 2010 saw a huge shift in regards to guest post. I started to produce more content myself and move away from numerous guest post which many of you seem to enjoy. In addition 2010 has also brought the most blog post I’ve ever done in a year to this blog!

2010 brought free contest, giveaways, more how to tips and techniques. 2010 also brought a brand new design to Whatsonmybrain which was very much needed. One of the coolest things that has happened in 2010 was I finally started to see a pretty good profit from this Hypnosis blog. While making a profit has never been my goal with this blog it’s nice to make money doing something you love…especially when you put so much time, energy and money into something. The profit from this blog has actually helped me to pay for some of my brothers treatment and help my wife with some of her medical bills. Once again, I couldn’t have done this without my loyal readers.

A lot of great things happened in 2010, but during my reflection and re-reading some of my old post I noticed my blog now seems to be article after article about Hypnosis. The personality which I used to put in all my blog post seems to have vanished for for one reason or another. I used to put a lot of my own soul into each post, but I feel as if most of my post in 2010 were lacking that personality that made it “unique” to me. Some of you may like the technical style of writing, but it takes away from the essence of this blog and it’s something I plan to change in 2011.

It’s Time To Release And Get Some Stuff Off My Chest

Anytime you reflect back on an entire year you’re bound to also run across things that really pissed you off or things you really need to change to make yourself better. So be warned as the following is just a few of the things I need to get off of my chest so I can have a fresh start for 2011. Do me a favor and in the comment area below post something that really upset you in 2010 that you want to change for 2011. WE ALL NEED A FRESH START!

People Who Leave Negative Comments:

One of the biggest problems for me is that I let certain people get under my skin at times. You might not know this, but this blog does get negative comments once in a while. While the amount is quite small it really upsets me when I receive a negative comment. I know I can’t please everyone and it would be crazy for me to think I could, but that’s just the type of person I am. I care so much for other people and what I do with this blog that I just beat myself up wondering what I could have done differently.

This has been a BIG issue for me and something I know I have to tackle head on. So in the spirit of change for 2011 I’ve now made a personal decision to not let this bother me anymore! If you don’t like what I have to say then leave. I’m not holding a gun to anyone’s head. I have so much positive energy to give to this world and I can’t afford to waste it thinking and dealing with people who only exist to bring me down. If you don’t like what I have to say then feel free to go and pay for the information which I provide for free to my readers.

People Who Leave My Newsletter Because I Recommend A Product

When you join my list you become a member of my extended family. I provide a ton of information for free that you would have to pay for otherwise. I really open and expose myself on a deep level to those on my newsletter and I honestly do my best to provide a lot of value. Now some of you may not know this but this blog does cost me a lot of money to keep running. I have domain, server, auto-responder and technical support cost. This can add up quite quickly. So to offset these expenses once in a while I may send an e-mail to my newsletter where I recommend a product to them. If someone buys that product through my link I get a small commission which goes to help me offset some of the cost of this site. If you are on my newsletter you know I usually just add it within a value based e-mail as I don’t like doing a lot of e-mails that are only promotional.

Either way, For the amount of high quality content I provide to my subscribes I feel this is a very small price to pay. No, not the product, but to receive an e-mail of that natural once in a while. I have very high standards and I never will and never have promoted any product that I haven’t believed in or used and never will. I do my best to provide value and I also make sure to only recommend products I feel can benefit you as a Hypnotist.

Well, once in a blue moon I will get people who unsubscribe from my list because they receive one of these e-mails. They receive tons of great content and happy and then leave because they receive a promotional e-mail once in a while. This really used to upset me because I value every single one of my subscribers and I hate to see someone unsubscribe. Deep inside I would question if what I was doing was right or if I should send a promotional e-mail out once in a while because I just hated to lose a subscriber. Once again, that’s just the type of person I am, but after doing some serious reflecting I’ve come to the conclusion that I can’t let someone unsubscribing from my list bother me anymore.

Here’s the deal. I work really, really hard at providing quality content on my newsletter. I do my best to make sure you guys get access to information that I had to actually pay for to receive. I also spend a lot of personal time, energy and money to provide all of this information to you so sending out a promotional e-mail once in a while that actually helps me to keep the site running and contains a quality recommendation from someone who has been where you are and can guide you down the right path as an Hypnotist is a small price to pay I think. So if you are one of those people who has a problem with receiving a promotional e-mail from me once in a while then you may want to leave my newsletter. Obviously I still respect you and want to help you if you need something so let us just part as friends. Member of newsletter or not you’re still a reader and I want to provide massive value to you.

WOW! That felt really good to get off my chest. I’ve been holding a lot of that in for a while now. Please don’t take this the wrong way if you are regular reader or a member of my newsletter. For the most part, people are wonderful and my readers are the best in the world, but once in a while things get to me. If we let these things built up for too long they can cause us physical and mental harm so it’s always good to learn to let stuff go and make a change for helps to better you in the long run. I respect and love each one of you so please understand the natural of this post isn’t to put anyone down, but to just release stuff that makes me sad and upsets me from time to time.

2011 Is Going To Bring Some Great & Unexpected Things

So what can you expect from me in the 2011? Well, I’m going to branching out into things I never thought I would do and things that may make me a little bit uncomfortable. You’ll going to see Youtube videos from me this year as well as a host of interviews. If you know me personally then you know I don’t really like giving interviews or speaking on video. I don’t have a fear of it or anything I just don’t think I’m very good at those two things. The thought running through my mind is what do I have to say that is different from someone else?

This really held me back in many different areas of my life. Even though I have a lot of Hypnotist who look up to me, students, readers and yes…even some fans lol I’ve always thought what’s special about me? I have a blog that does well, but whatever and that doesn’t mean I have anything special to add…at least that’s what I thought for the longest time.

It wasn’t until I spoke with a good friend (you know who you are) who helped me to understand that being me, just me is unique in it’s own right. If I didn’t have something to say then this blog wouldn’t be so popular. I never confessed to being the best Hypnotist or even the most knowledgeable Hypnotist because I’m not, but what I am is Josh. I am me and no one can do that better then me. Does this mean my Youtube videos and interviews are going to be good at first…NOPE! They will probably suck a lot in the beginning, but I will get better and I will continue to grow.

As long as I believe in myself and my readers have my back I know I can achieve a lot of great things. Sometimes it just takes a swift kick in the butt to get us out of our comfortable zone so 2011 will be that kick in the ass.

Let’s Kick Off 2011

Well, I really just wanted to write this post to get some things off my chest and serve as a written record of things which have come and will come in 2011.Another year has arrived and that means a fresh start for most people. Over the years people have always seen the start of a new year as a time for change, a time for new beginners, a time for rebirth. I think this is awesome, but I pose this question to you and myself.

Why do we all keep waiting for next year? Isn’t each day a fresh start. Isn’t each day a chance to start over? If so, then I make this suggestion to you and I that we live each day as it’s a new day. Don’t wait a whole year to make a change, but in the end we don’t truly know how much time we have. The only one that knows that is God. So seize the moment and let’s make tomorrow as well as 2011 the best year ever.

Josh

P.S.

From the bottom of my heart I do love all of my readers. You’ve been with me since the beginner and helped me through some bad times and laughed with me during the good times. You all hold a special place in my heart. So in the spirit of change and since I confessed some of the things I’m going to be changing for 2011 I want to hear from you.

I want to know what you plan on changing today or this year. In the comment area below please let me know what you want to change for 2011, what are your goals, plans or just what pissed you off in 2010.

The Father Of Personal Development Has Passed Away

I’m feeling pretty sad at the moment. I just discovered Jim Rohn passed away on the 5th of December, 2009. For those of you who don’t know, Jim Rohn he was a great man. He was considered by many people to be the father of Personal Development and Self Improvement. He was a mentor to me in more ways then one.

I never met Mr. Rohn, but his words have inspired me and helped me to become the man I am today. He is responsible for changing millions of peoples lives. Years ago I ran across a small collection of quotes from Jim Rohn. Those quotes are what started me on my path. Many of the people who he influenced became role models for me and thus influenced me as well.

So I’m deeply hurt at the moment because even though I never met him I feel like I just lost a great friend. To be honest, I don’t know where I would be in my life right now or what my life would be like if I never discovered his words. His words opened up a whole new reality to me. For the first time ever I felt like I could actually see something other couldn’t. It was a special moment for me and to be honest it’s a little hard to describe. It was MY MOMENT and Jim brought it about with his words.

He inspired me, motivated me and most importantly…kicked me in the rear and forced me to take action. One of the biggest lessons I ever learned from Rohn’s words were in order for “it” to get better, “YOU” must get better. He taught the only way to really accomplish anything was to work hard, set goals, become a better person, and provide more value to the marketplace than anyone else.

This lesson shaped me as a human and a business. I have posted a video of Jim Rohn that I always liked below. It contained a few quotes that always meant a lot to me. I prayers are with Mr. Rohn and his family. Rest in Peace Jim Rohn, Rest in Peace.

If Jim Rohn influenced your life in someway please leave a comment below and let me know. This way we can all share in the memory of a great man…

Do you want to know how to become THE BEST at whatever you do? Board Certified Hypnotist John Weir discusses a technique that his father installed in him at a early age, which led him to be quite successful at the age of 27.

Champions Are Made When Nobody Is Around

Champions are made when nobody is around,” are words of wisdom from my past that perpetually roll around in my mind.

My father constantly told me they these powerful words as he instilled the belief in me that in order to be at your best you must do the things champions do in the off time, when nobody is around, in order to perform your best in front of the crowd.

My father taught me many lessons while coaching me in sports and little did I know that some of these lessons would have such an incredible impact on my professional and personal development.

Success isn’t an overnight phenomenon or something that just happens to some lucky people. People who achieve a high level of success are the ones willing to do the necessary activities in their downtown so when the time is right they are prepared to succeed. Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, and all other sports legends didn’t get to that position without putting in a tremendous amount of time practicing their skills. Zig Ziglar, Anthony Robbins, and all the other great motivational speakers just don’t go and wing it hoping to deliver a great lecture. Ormond McGill, Gerald Kein, and all the other legendary hypnotists never woke one day with hypnotic powers nor were they born hypnotists. All of these greats lived by the philosophy that my father preached to me as a child. They became the best in their fields because of what they did when nobody was around.

The End Is Just The Beginning

In order to be a successful hypnotist you must commit yourself to a lifetime of learning and constant development. There is a direct correlation in the activities you do in your off time and your ability to achieve success with your clients. During your downtime, you must spend it developing and sharpening your skills so you can be as effective as possible. I tell all of my students, at the end of their certification course, that this isn’t the end it’s only the beginning. Every single day there are new developments in our profession, people developing new techniques, and new ways are discovered to maximize our potential with our clients. The best in our profession are well aware of this fact and spend lots of time reading books, trade journals, and website forums so that they stay up to date with a profession that is constantly growing.

A success deficiency that many people possess is that they wait until they landed a big gig before they start developing the program for it. Successful people do the opposite. The major successes in our profession are always in their lab during their off time developing new programs, products, scripts, and courses. They always think in terms of “when” they get the big jobs and never “if” they do. This attitude keeps their motivation levels high and in the spirit of constant development. When a person combines practice, preparation, and action with opportunity it creates massive success.

Learning Hypnosis Never Stops

It is amazing just how many familiar faces there are at all the major conventions, advanced training programs, and lectures. When these people aren’t at the conventions, you constantly hear them on tele-seminars, or see them logged-on video conferences yearning to learn more. This isn’t by accident. The same way their success isn’t a mistake either. They are constantly learning doing the things that nobody sees.

To be the best you can be, commit yourself to constantly develop your skills and expand your knowledge everyday just like the best in our industry do. So the ultimate question is.what are you doing when nobody is around?

Have you ever wondered why some people are more successful than others? Have you ever what they are doing different from you.

What Makes People Successful?

When most people think of personal development we think about self help tapes, Tony Robbins, motivational speakers and so on. The reason is most of those things mentioned all have something to do with the field of personal development. We spend thousands of dollars and invest our time into changing our lives for the better. We go to these events and reads the books learning new techniques, new ways of thinking and taking notice of how we are feeling.

The personal development field is one of the biggest moneymakers in the world. Millions of tapes, books and speakers are providing their message. The truth is most of these people are successful and have followed certain blueprints that lead to them being successful. Other times the person is only successful because he is a really good con artist, but hey the con artist was smart enough to think of the idea in the first place.

Okay, back to this post. We go to these events and we get pumped up and ready for massive change. In other cases, we ready the books and listen to the tapes and reflect upon our lives while listening. Once we finish the course or program we know things are going to be different. We know our lives can never be the same. Then when we fast-forward a few months into the future and these same people are in the same place they were before or worst. Why?

Why spend the amount of time, energy and money for these products yet some people never even finish the tape set. Why? Why take the time and personal energy to take these courses? Do they work? Are they just hypnotizing us with a wonderful message? Maybe

Why would people spend so much money and time and then not change anything about their lives? These people have received great information, but how come most people never become successful or become rich? Is it because this information doesn’t work or is it because you got ripped off? One could say these things but I tend to think that isn’t the problem at all. Remember, knowledge and information isn’t power.

Someone once said Knowledge and information is nothing more then unorganized information. For some reason people tend to think all you have to do is gain some new information and success is bound. Well thinking positive may be better than thinking negative, but if you just sit on your butt and hope you may never see success. While learning new ideas and beliefs are the foundation for change, its just part of the puzzle.

What’s The Difference Between The Successful And The Ones Who Aren’t?

It’s really quite simple and its how I’ve done pretty well for myself. Its nothing more than two simple words, “Taking Action”. This step here is the key to everything you want in life. My job isn’t to make promises to you that you’ll be rich or successful. Heck, you may never be, but how do you know unless you take action toward whatever it is you want. Will you make mistakes? Sure you will, will you fall on your face? Sure you will, but you will be moving in the right direction, which puts you beyond the other people who are just sitting around wishing something to happen.

I know some of you are like I already know that, well if you do than how come you’re not where you want to be? Gaining information is just the first step, the second step is to act upon this information and take action. You must take action every single day to reach your goals. Write a to do list, get organized, do something that causes you to take action. Some people tend to think you must make massive amounts of action and that’s not the case. Just a little step each day in the right direction and you will get there. Some people tend to take action for a few days and then stop when life starts to get hard. The real winners are the ones who take small steps in the right direction with each step getting you closure and closure.

Some people who want to get in better shape try to make it a habit to get on the treadmill everyday for 30 min when they never stepped on one in their life. So instead of doing 30 min every day, why not just get on for 5 to 10 min and get your body and mind used to the idea. Think about this, now you are at a pool on a hot day and you walk over to the water and start to walk into the water. The water is very cool so you jump out of the water. You than slowly start to put a foot in the water. You than let the foot get used to the feeling, than you place more of your leg in the water. Eventually your body gets into the water and you feel great because you are cooling off on a hot day. So what happened here? You took baby steps that led you to the outcome you wanted which was going for a swim.

Taking little steps or little actions that lead to bigger outcomes has always been part of your life, if you think about it, you we’re once a baby and had to learn to walk. You took tons of little steps, fell along the way, but you learned to walk, didn’t you now? In reality, nothing can get done without taking action. It all starts with an idea, but without action an idea is nothing more then just an idea.

So gather information, know what you want, define an outcome and just take action. Jamie Smart, who is a great hypnotist and NLP Instructor, said something once that really stood out with me. I may misquote him a little, but the point will get across. He asked someone once ‘if you knew you couldn’t fail, what would you want from life? If you knew that you would never fail, what would you do with your life?

This really made me think and brought me to the conclusion that we as humans are so worried about failing that we never take action. Here is how the mind works on this subject. The mind tends to make whatever you think about the most your reality. So if you are always thinking in terms of ‘what if I fail?’ than how can you ever succeed. When I work with companies to help their employee’s increase motivation for sales or whatever it may be I always bring up this point.

In your everyday life you fail a couple of times a day, weather its a mistake or something you forgot to do. Something always goes wrong. So if this is true, which it is true, isn’t it? Than why continue to live life? Think about this now, because as you do you will start to look within yourself to times where you failed in your normal everyday life, but kept on going.

Keep Moving Forward

So lets come back from that place and move forward a little bit. If you know things can go wrong and you keep on going than how come you are so worried about making mistakes or failing when it comes to taking action toward your dreams? The only difference is within your mind. There is no difference between taking action toward your personal goals and living life, but when you know what you want from life, when you have a clear outcome. You are no longer living just to live. You are now living for a purpose!

Once again the road to success doesn’t mean life will be perfect. Most of the successful people in the world always go through more rough times than good. It’s as if they have to go through the fire so they may come out stronger later. A friend once asked me ‘How can I get down the road to where I want to be’ I answered him back with ‘ how can you get down the road if you don’t leave the house’.

Personally it is the people who move toward what they want and take action that are the ones who can say this self-improvement tape worked for me or Tony Robbins changed my life or whatever it may be. Information is everywhere, but it’s up to as to WANT TO make that CHANGE. We are so quick to blame others for when we fail, but we never look in the mirror.

So TAKE MASSIVE ACTION and move toward change. It’s hard if you THINK it’s hard, but it’s really easy. You just get up, grab a sheet a paper and take about 15 to 20 min to define what you want in life. Than once you have an outcome, start figuring out what you need to do to reach it and than just start taking little steps everyday that lead you to it.

Remember, things will pop up that will distract you. That’s fine, handle them and get back to your dreams. It is the small steps you take over time that lead to big results. Once again there your dreams, so don’t you deserve them NOW?
